  • Hi I am 53 years old female and have probably been watching my weight for 30 years. Some with success, some not. I am 5ft 2.5 inches tall and currently weigh 11st 2. I started at slimming world just before Christmas weighing 11st 6.5. So some success. I really have had my fill of slimming clubs. I get hounded by the leader who. Is constantly chasing me to stay to class and quite frankly I have just had enough. I bought the 5:2 plan book about 12 months ago and was very impressed, although a little sceptical. So here I am needing to lose at least a stone and ready to go. I was really looking for a 5:2 virgin to buddy up with if anyone else is about to start. I shall read the site avidly as time permits today and hope that someone out there is ready to buddy up with me. Thanks

Morning Franksd and welcome to the forums!!

am sure you’ll find lots of support on here to keep you going, good luck and let us know how you are getting on!! 🙂

Hi Franksd, I will buddy up. I’m just starting today for the first time. I could probably lose a stone although I’m hoping to get all the other benefits of fasting too. Not least of which is generally changing my relationship with food. I don’t like how I feel off the rails sometimes and eat way too much sugar! This week I am planning to fast today (so far no food just black coffee feeling ok) and Friday only because I have social events Wednesday and Thursday this week. Otherwise I think Mon/Thurs will be my aim. I’m 43, female about 5’3″ and I haven’t weighed myself because I don’t have a scale. I guess 9 stone 4 lbs(?) anyway I’ve put on enough weight in the last year to make some of my clothes unwearable and others just uncomfortable. I’m happier and more comfortable exercising between 8 stone and 8 stone 4 lbs. I don’t expect to lose weight quickly and as that is probably likely to be the most visible benefit I think reading the forums and hearing about others experience will help.

Hi Monkey70. That would be fantastic if you would buddy up. Gosh if only I was your weight. I am good with exercise, it has always played a large part in my life. We have just come back from a few days skiing and am ready to go. Monday Thursday is good for me. They are busy days for me. I have had today a dry fried egg on a slice of whole meal bread then 100g salmon fillet with grilled tomato and peas. Copious amounts of tea and coffee and going to burn that lot off at Zumba tonight. I have found that since I have got to the menopause, the weight just doesn’t shift the same, plus I love my wine!!!!!! So day 1 has been a good day. I really enjoyed my food and could quite happily have those meals a couple of times a week. Keep in touch

    Hi and welcome:

Here are some warnings for newbies: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!

    Hi Guys,
Started today at 67 years 5’4″and 9st 12lbs with body fat of 35.5%. I am really interested to see whether the fat goes or both muscle and fat. I have tried Low Gl for ages but can only keep weight steady and am wheat and lactose intolerant. I came back from skiing 3lbs heavier 1 lb muscle 2 lbs fat so have to do something before next ski hols as salopettes are far too tight! I exercise a lot as I teach Pilates and step but an under active thyroid has meant a slow steady weight increase from 9st to 10st over the last 10 years. Am now listening to my stomach rumble loudly and logged on to site to keep me from attacking the fridge! Wish you both happy fasting. Salmon fillet and broccoli coming up!!

Yeay! Have made it through first fast day. I had a lunch meeting so just had salad with no dressing and a couple tablespoons of sunflower seeds but i probably could have managed until about 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I was so excited for dinner though! I had that about 7:30 after a bodypump class at the gym, roasted cabbaged with hazelnuts and two eggs. I think probably I relied a bit too much on black coffee to get me through the day because last night I was awake a lot. Amazingly I felt no urge to get up and have a snack which is unusual for me. It’s a good mindset just to make it through one day. I weighed myself at the gym too, to get a starting weight but I think I won’t weigh in often, it doesn’t matter as much as feeling good and enjoying healthy eating more. And today I am really enjoying my food! How did you guys find the night? Was Zumba ok on your fast day franksd? I really hope we burn fat exercising on fast days!

Great news monkey 70 Actually my day was not too bad. Ate eggs and small piece of smoked salmon for breakfast which took me thro’ to around 2pm with no problems. Drank a lot of herbal/fruit teas and 1 coffee; bad point around 5pm but logged on to site. Ate before teaching class which in retrospect was not a good idea as I felt peckish all thro’ class and came home to eat a stick of celery and 2 “sleepy time teas. Very surprisingly I slept quite well and did not feel nauseous this morning from not eating.(This has happened when I have a long gap between meals recently)
I always weigh myself every morning and had lost 2lbs which is unheard of!! So quite looking forward to Thursday and may save some cals. to eat after evening class.
Missed my body pump class today but will be able to get a walk in tomorrow.

Hi peeps, omg lost you on the forum…….where did you go. Anyway, lost 3 pounds on fast day, but filling my boots today!!!! But looking ok. I suppose I feel I have had a lot today, but really nibbled, and picked and then a couple glasses of wine while I watch the football. Gosh I hope after Thursday fast day I have lost couple of pounds x

How are your fast days going today? I’ve had to put mine off this week until tomorrow as we had meals out planned for wed and thurs this week. Lovely meal yesterday but bad timing to have these plans two days in a row. Heavy eating on my non-fast days this week. Although I was actually feeling good and ate normally on tuesday I can’t help pleasing myself when I eat out (plus wine). Friday will be hard but we only have to make it through one day at a time so I’m going to be motivated by you guys getting through today. Good idea not to weigh myself for at least another week though. I doubt I will have had much of a loss really certainly not 2 or 3 pounds (that’s great!) but at least there is one successful day under my tight belt so far and I’m learning not to treat hunger as an emergency 🙂 I’m trying to think of decent things to eat for my fast day meals. I don’t eat meat or fish and I’m sold on trying to make the fast day meals mainly protein as it keeps me full longer. Have a good day today.

2nd fast day nearly over and just finished class. Having lost my voice last week I now have a foul sore throat which means lot of hot water. not too much eating on no fast days but 2 slices of whiskey fruit cake did not help (wheat bloats)so let’s see how the weekend goes as we are out to dinner on Sat. Must admit that 3pm was a low point today.will do body fat weekly as I am really curious as to rate of fat loss.

We had puttanesca with chicken thighs, very filling(from the FD recipe book) and partner had his with spaghetti so a bit left for tomorrow. There are quite a few veg recipes in there. Try porridge with flax and pumpkin seeds for breakfast it keeps me going for 5 hours no problem. There are some good recipes in Patrick Holford’s Low GL Diet and Recipe book, but you would have to check the calories out.
