  • Have just joined and will give it a try for a month. I am a few stone overweight and have high blood pressure that is controlled but would benefit from some weight loss.

I don’t think 600 calories on fast day is realistic as have a very busy life but think below a 1000 calories is sensible and on other days a good balanced diet, certainly have no intention of eating any rubbish.

I exercise 3 times a week and plan to increase to 4 sessions a week, nothing heavy but little and often.

Has anyone found a good formula for the days to fast? I was thinking Tuesday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday.

    Jam6,
I fast on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I think it depends on your personal schedule. Those are the two days that work best for me.

I think there is no ideal formula of when to fast. You need to plan according to your schedule. You can always change it from week to week.

If you exercise you might want to consider lifting weights, the heavier the better. This will build muscle which in return will up your metabolic rate. You will burn more calories.

The reason why over time and ageing we have lower metabolic rates is because we lose muscles the older we get. But this does not need to be a problem as you can always build muscles back.

A last suggestion: what helped me enormously is to look long and hard and honestly at my dietary habits…cutting out empty calories such as sugary drinks (was addicted to the full sugar Coke) and making changes on that front can be very beneficial on your weightloss journey.
Also…I got myself a pedometer and lately a heart rate monitor watch, both of which really keep me on my toes. Exercising suddenly is so much more fun.

    Best of luck
    Stef.

Thanks for your comments Stef and Lori,
