  • Day 11 Belfast FD.
I didn’t weigh myself today, which is unusual but I know the scales are up a pound or two after the weekend. But I won’t obsess. So I am going to make a big effort and stay off the scales until Saturday, which will be hard for me, a daily weigher. Looking forward to a controlled week with lots of exercise. The

@pamie – I have just finished the Clever Guts Diet. I suffer from excess stomach acid and have take industrial strength medication, which must be having an adverse effect on my health. My goal, on retirement from a stressful job, was to cut my medication and of course, lose weight. I have now halved my medication and regularly drink water kefir and only drink decaf coffee and tea. (Weekend alcohol is another story and of course the nibbles, as some of you have mentioned.) The book gives the usual rationale and a plan at the end for improving your gut health. There is a section of recipes at the end, some of which I intend to try. It’s definitely worth a read.
@metatauta – great results. Very well done
@califdreamer so sorry to hear about your furry friend.
@Imrenfrey what’s even more worrying is that the ‘kingmakers’ who are busy supporting the government can’t even sort out their own government. The NI Assembly is in complete disarray and they squabble like spoilt children.
@happymargo the beauty about this WOL is that you can push the reset button. I should know LOL!
    @rainbowsmile take care of yourself.
@QueenBee2080 this forum certainly reflects a variety of interpretations of the diet, often mixed with other opinions from people like Dr Jason Fung. We all do the version that suits, but for me I usually stick to 500 cals on a FD and fast on a Monday and Thursday. I occasionally do B2B when my circumstances don’t let me follow the usual routine. However, on NFDs I follow 16:8, that is I only eat two meals, brunch and dinner. That prolongs, on a daily basis, the window between my last meal the previous day and my first meal the next day. I find that works for me. Good luck in finding your own path.
@allie123 well done on your loss. It sounds like you’ve got it sussed.
@lilymartin I think we both are in the same place, but regardless of the weight loss (or lack of it!) the health benefits cannot be overestimated. The only person responsible for our wellbeing is us. So…onwards and downwards!
LynzM LOL! Maybe I should get a little behind too!
So, Monday again and girding the loins… again. Have a good one everybody!

    Day 12……Florida…..FD

Happy Monday Morning…… Ugg, even I didn’t believe my non cheerful self. Wouldn’t it be nice if we only had to work two days a week and still be able to pay the bills! This is my long week…… 6 days in a row!

Yesterday, I over did it, I ended the night last with a brownie and ice cream. This morning, my belly is not a liking me. Hoping a nice solid FD, will make by belly like me again.

@Strawberries and cream…… Ive never felt bad about getting rid of a pair of shoes, but again, I do hold on to them for a very long time before I do finally send them to the second hand store. Plus, I’ve really never worn a pair till their death. Unfortunately, I do tend to take care of my shoes cuz I have a thing about clean looking shoes and with so many pairs, I do get bored of them first.

@queenbee……. I get it, I really do as a newbie, I can understand how the different variations can be mind boggling. The variations is why, I believe this WOL works for so many of us. In the diet world, diets tend to be clumped into one size fits all and as many of us have figured out one size doesn’t always fit.
Deep down, we all are following the Dr. Plan but have tailored it to fit into our lives. If you think about it this way, we found a way of life that fits us rather than trying to fit our life into a diet. A set up for failure if you ask me.
Let me see if I can explain my reason for the adaptation, to maybe put into prospective for you. Sometimes the little bit of insight will give you a better feeling about others way of doing things.
I, 16:8 because I am a late night snacker, I put an eating window into the formula to control it. I know that a 7:30 pm, I’m done. It’s like a lock on the sweet cupboard. It’s more a mental thing for me then anything. I found that even though I have said no to sweets, I can still go into the cupboard and find something to eat good or bad because I’m eating. But by having the window, it say no I can’t have anything until my eating window opens again.
I do fast three times a week but the middle Day, I tend to have more like 800 calories then 500 because the extra 300 calories makes it feel like less of a restriction.
For me, it’s more of a mental game then anything. If someone or something tells me no, I’m the type of person that will do it just to prove I can.
I hope this helps you find your comfort zone in this WOL, it’s not perfect but if you can find the path in the dark that works for you, I suggest to stick with it regardless of what the ghost and demons in the dark corners say!

I guess if your scared of lightening being around a Kung-fu fighter may not be your best choice in entertainment.

Day 12 Hampshire UK – FD

Last week I had a very lovely, very sociable time. It involved lots of eating and drinking :0)

However, it meant I only did one FD last week.

So this week I am aiming to do:-

    2 X 5:2 (Today and Thursday)
    1 x 16:8 @ 800 cals (Tues OR Wed)

Have a good day everyone and good luck to all the pocketeers! X

Day 12, Mountaintop PA USA, FD

@queenbee20280 I follow the basic 5:2 including a nice protein waffle piled with berries and fruit for breakfast every day. It is about 400 calories. There may or may not be a small mid afternoon snack–a 1/2 cup yogurt, 1/2 apple, small handful of nuts–and then on FD’s a dinner salad of a large bed of spinach, colored peppers, cucumber, chopped sweet onion, chopped walnuts, a protein–3 oz left over steak or roasted chicken, smoked salmon, tuna–and a nice sparkling water with lemon. I estimate the FD’s calorie count to be about 700-800 calories.

As for the Cosmo @strawberriesandcream, it is a delicious martini made of citron vodka, cointreau, diet cranberry and fresh lime–shaken and served in a chilled martini glass. That is on NFD’s.

I don’t eat any packaged foods and therefore no refined sugar, flour or other carbs that contribute little to a nutritious diet. There is the occasional cookie or small piece of cake for family birthdays and when the grandchildren are in residence, but as a steady diet, No.

I would advise those easing into the 5:2 to look at portions, eat simple whole foods that grow outside–fruits, vegetables, nuts and dairy– and relax about the calories. It is impossible to overeat high fiber foods and there is no counting.

Well I’m off to the 4 mile hike this morning. The birds are singing, my Audible book is waiting and my Fitbit is charged. Pennsylvania has finally given up some summer weather this week. We make hay while the sun shines !

    2nd post

OOh love it! Such wise words from @debster251 and @bert1802

This is such a great WOL! I agree! I love never having to feel guilty because I know I can just set the reset button by doing a FD.

Also I love the health benefits of IF!

    Day 12 Tas Australia NFD

    @queenbee20280.
I know we’re your coming from with the confusion. I had the same problem when I started back in mid March. I personally do the 5/2 or the 3/4 if I’ve overeaten on a particular week but not often. i never follow my TDEE as i exercise a lot and just try to eat sensibly on my 5 non fasting days. Most people on here have come from a dieting background myself included I’ve done the Weight Watchers I’ve read the Slimming World the Atkins diet the ketogenic diet. I’ve tried the 8/16. Its a minefield lol. I personally find it very easy too fast on two days and eat normally on the other five. I like the idea of the health benefits of fasting but mainly I only have to count calories on two days a week. I choose not to eat till 12 noon and avoid as much as possible processed sugars carbs and keep alcohol for special occasions. It works it feels sustainable definitely a way of life for me now. Good luck hope you get to grips with it.

    Day 12 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

More of a CD yesterday at 800 calories, but calling it a FD. Only had one meal plus my daily apple. Scale showed still under maintenance at 158.8 this morning.

When I look in the mirror, I still see lots of loose skin, which at my 69 years, does make me look older. Hence, I don’t plan to lose more weight. I am right under BMI 25 so happy with that.

Hope to read posts later on and try to keep up with all of your progress. Hot and sunny again here today but only wearing my bikini in the backyard pool, not in public!

    Onward and downward!

Day 12, Rocky Mountains, US, BSD800 cals

    Hi all,

Had a good controlled weekend. Lots of veggies and fruit, yogurt, parmesan, a bit of beef. Sunday I had an Ezekiel raisin bread (sprouted grain bread) with Irish butter as a treat.
Down a pound. 1.8 pounds to go to reach my June goal. BSD 800 works for me.😊
I will continue this again until Friday, Sat and Sun will be NFDs but CDs.

    Have a good Monday everyone!😊🌻😊🌼😊🌺

Day 12 Chicago, Illinois USA – FD

    Day 12 USA-WA FD
A great weekend with family and food , and a fun family viewing of Wonder Woman (We all liked it, including my daughter in her 20’s and my 19 year old son). Today is a bit of a reset. I got on the scale and measured-not surpringly, things are up, but not by much, so I just need to settle back into the program. Good luck FDers and NFDers alike!

    Day 12, Germany, FD

Not sure where I am so I’ll back track a few days.

    Day 7- Montreal- FD
    Day 8- NFD
    Day 9- NFD
    Day 10- NFD
    Day 11- NFD
    Day 12- FD

    Day 12, Gozo, Malta, FD

I have a BBQ this evening but ate only vegetables and coffee with milk so far today. I hope to be able to stay within 800 calories this evening. It’s our last Eucharistic meeting for now until next October and we’re celebrating mass and a BBQ afterwards.

I need to lose 2 and a half kilos to be within my target weight.

Have a great Monday everyone onwards and downwards

@allie, @safarigirl, @steffieagle, @bigviking, @triplet, congrats to all of you on your success and progress! @happymargo, have a lovely rest of your vacation! @strawberriesandcream, thanks again for hosting – can’t believe almost half the month is over; we also have an old dog (13 and diabetic) and we love our daily walks with him; also glad to hear about your dad – we are attempting to arrange a new living situation for my father-in-law this month also. He’s 87 and disabled. @calif, sorry about your sick kitty. @fatrabbit, good idea to extend your eating window – you sound like you’re determined to get it right and I know you will. @lynzm, a little behind is better than being mile-wide, lol! @lany36, your articulation of the NFDs is perfect. Thank you for that analogy! @songbirdme, I don’t think I ever wore a bikini in my life and kudos for you for wearing one at 69!!

    Day 12 FD USA
Really enjoyed the weekend! Was pretty controlled until last night. Got into the fridge too late. Found homemade tamales and a box of left over fried rice and noodles. Let my gaurd down and over indulged. The scales really screamed this morning. Mad at myself. I wasn’t even feeling hungry! Back on the train today. Good luck to all of the fasters this week!

This is weird – if I have coffee with milk, then I have to have sugar. Can’t bear it without. But having just been in a conference where I was too embarrassed to ask for milk and sugar (look at the lard-arse adding extra sugar!) I’ve just realised that actually I rather like black coffee, no sugar.

    Win-win!!

    Day 12 FD USA

Yesterday was a NFD but lost .6 pound, so 2.8 pounds (1.27 kg) so far for June.
Yesterday was a very sad day because we had to have one of of cats put to sleep. She had cancer in her jaw and we had been treating her for some time because with pain meds and Prednisone she still had a pretty good quality of life. But yesterday she was no longer able to eat, even though she seemed to be hungry. She was a little black Persian that we adopted from the Persian rescue 9 years ago. We aren’t really sure how old she was when we got her. She was very sweet and it’s very sad to lose her. She was a tiny cat with a big presence in our home.

    Day 12 Cornwall UK
    FD
Going well weather helps sunny warm I’ve been sitting in the garden having a cuppa with hubby life is good, Hope the bathroom scales will be good in the morning. Happy weighing to all that’s on a FD.

Day 12 Massachusetts USA FD. @califdreamer So sorry about your beloved cat. I’m very allergic to cats but I know what it is to lose a dog. Heartwrenching. I’m 3 hours into my eight hours with no food. It’s surprisingly difficult today. I’m many months into this 5/2 so it’s not usually this hard. People who haven’t seen me since Christmas are telling me I look good (I also have a new haircut) so I don’t know if it’s the 5/2 😁

    Day 12 – UAE – FD (12th day of b24b)

    Just a quick check-in..

    Day 12 – Portland, Oregon – FD

I find that I enjoy my Monday fast days the most – I feel like it’s the set-up for having a good week. πŸ™‚ I’m headed out on a two week road trip/vacation starting next week – will likely try to have a couple “control” days each week, but am not expecting to fast during my vacation. I am visiting family whom I rarely get to see and having a mini family reunion of sorts and don’t want to have to pay too much attention to what I’m eating. I am also meeting my new niece for the first time! And my family is getting to meet my daughter for the first time, too. Very exciting trip overall and I am VERY much looking forward to it. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    Day 12 second post FD

@mogaman I am fairly new to this but battled today. I have found it easier on other days. I’ve survived it and I’m glad I stuck it out. Going to have a bath just now and then bed. I remember reading in the book the one guy says he always said he never breaks a fast day. I took inspiration from this and made it a kind of a mantra today and it got me through

    Days 9-11 NFD
    Day 12-FD!

Hello from Albuquerque, NM (ABQ). Okay, got Carl Douglas’ ‘Kung Fu Fighting playing on YouTube’ with an original video from 1974 or around there. Now listening to ‘annoyingly catchy songs’ and guess what–chumbawamba!

Changing bad habits is hard, @Queenbee2080, so I like the fact that the main rule of fast diets is to do something that you will stick with. I am still experimenting with different approaches but find that there are two that work: 16:8 and 5:2 eating 800 calories on FDs. I also like the fact that it doesn’t cost a lot of money. Any, really, unless you buy a book.

@Bert1802–I’m also a late-night snacker and I’m sure it’s emotional because on FD evenings I feel sort of lost and sad. I once dated someone who said he smoked because it made him less lonely and at the time didn’t really understand. But I’ve dug myself into a rut by eating after dinner and now it’s time to change. I’m hoping that not eating will help me deal with the malaise that got me here in the first place. I think my life is lacking a creative outlet. Probably should figure out a project to work on.

Anyway, I’d like to join today’s Global Pocketeers.

    Day 12 | Alaska | FD

I’ve been feeling really good and confident about this whole WOL then I had to go and sabotage myself this weekend and undo all of the I’ve made. Sigh. I’m afraid at this rate I will not make it anywhere near my goal of 4 pounds banished as I’m actually up a pound from where I started. But with all that said I’m sticking with it. I won’t let my binge-ing completely derail me.

Today is a fast day and then boot camp tonight. I’m doing really well on Fast Days, I’m hungry but able to follow through. It’s the non-fast days that I’m having trouble with control. Hoping over time I will figure it out.

Haven’t been online in several days, so will go back through your posts today and reflect.

Good luck with being mindful and controlled today.

    Day 13 FD NZ
Somewhat wakeful night for me which is annoying.
My herbal sleepy tea and evening lamp ritual helps hugely especially on NFDs so I’m seeking the positive point of view and being grateful for how much better I slept than I probably would have without my dimmed lighting and sleep tea.
@krisnia we had family movie night to see Wonder Woman and our 14 & 16 yr old both enjoyed it too.
@lola907 it really does help me to know others struggle with NFD mindset- that’s one of my goals for June
Time to get ready for work. Have a lovely day all.

    Day 12 -Hawaii-USA – FD
I would like to join in for the rest of June if thatΚ»s ok.
    Starting weight 173 lb
    goal 169

    Day 12 – NFD

Indulgent weekend but still maintaining May’s 🎯 weight, put another way it means I’m not progressing as planned for June but as an optimist we’re not even half yet there yet!!!! There’s still time……😊

Day 12 FD UK Glasvegas. After yesterdays gym I fell asleep during the day πŸ˜† I think I turn into 3 year old with my sleeping habits. I must admit Im dead excited about being able to strenght train. It took 5 long years to get there. Pure joy even if I can barely lift equivalent of a half starved chicken. Cooked delicious meals on sun and fast day today is going great.
@annemarilyn Im working for multinational accountancy body and sometimes help out our outbound team speak to customers in their native language. Theres usually more than enough overtime going in my team and past 3 years I basically lived in the office πŸ˜‚ apart from two compulsory days off each month. I promised myself though that I shall take most weekends off this year…we ll see how that pans out. Thankfully Im back to gym and running now and both are more important than any money. What kind of job do you do?

    Day 13, Germany, NFD
    Day 12, NFD
    Day 11, NFD

These days I am very busy that’s why I am not active here. I am not sure if I can fast tomorrow. It depends on a medical test that will be done tomorrow morning. If I do the test successfully then I will go for b2b2b. So let’s see what happens. I have to take care of my eyes for tomorrow’s test so I cannot read the posts tonight. Hope you all do well πŸ˜‰

    Day 12 Oregon USA NFD
I did well until evening meal and then over indulged on the wine

@califdreamer – So sorry to hear about your cat, I’ve been there and my thoughts are with you.

@Strawberriesandcream thank you for the boost πŸ™‚

    Day 13 – NZ – FD

@fatrabbit — I’m also searching for the balance. I don’t want to forever be toting up calories in my Lose It app. I want to reach “normal” and get my appetite under control (frog good, if possible.) Except maybe to regulate FD callories, which are tough to eye ball if not doing a full liquidity only Fast. I still have some downward progress to make till maintenance,. Then I’d like to stop the constant monitoring.

The basic 5:2 works wonders for slow, steady loss (plus all the additional health benefits known for intermittent fasting!) But I’m hoping to really open up Saturday as my one full “relax” day. Cheese (Brie? Yes. please!), & Date Night with OH, & 🍷need to fit into my life easily somewhere.

I’m I thinking Saturday will be my “let my hair down” day once I hit maintenance. Mid-week is always easier to control at work.

@at — thanks for the milk Kefir wrap up. Good reminder of benefits.
May need to get a new starter batch of grains from a friend as my OH let mine die on the kitchen counter while I was in hospital during last bowel obstruction. (OH calls it my “science experiment” and worries about its safety.)

@steffieagle — I love hearing how you keep so balanced and sane with your approach. Great success on healthy, natural foods “close to nature.” Add in all the long walks in fresh air & sunshine = perfect! Congrats!

@songbirdme — your “apple a day” keeping the doctor away & regularity in check. Great plan! I love a good green Granny Smith apple. May adopt this little habit & see how It works for me too πŸ‘πŸΌ

@strawberriesandcream — Yay for getting your dad settled so close by & with a lovely corner garden yard, May it bring joy to you both!!

Day 12 – SW WA USA – FD

@fatveganshickslims – I’m glad you’ve opened up your schedule for a little more of you time. With the multinational nature of your work, do you speak other languges? I am a lover of languages. What I get paid for right now is being an ELL (English Language Learner) Specialist at a primary & middle school. I help students as well as their teachers to support the children who have another language as their home language other than English. Most of the students have a Russian or Spanish language background plus a sprinkling of other languages.

@jmh44 – enjoy your upcoming road trip!

I appreciate people revisiting how they are doing this WOL at the moment. It’s encouraging and informative.

Grrr was supposed to be a fast day but ate 850 calories….
    Must try harder tomorrow xx

    Day 12 – MT USA – FD

Checking in late but I’m fasting. I did spin class this morning so I might eat my own arm off at this point.

    Day 12, Guildford UK, FD

Ate to target today. Extra coffee with skim milk though.

    Strangely not hungry tonight.

    @califdreaming hugs re puss

@Strawberryandcream following your advice taking care of self

Feeling much better thank you everyone.

Day 11 NFD St. Louis USA
Day 12 FD St. Louis USA
Will be doing back to back so fasting again tomorrow as usual. Can’t recall if I checked in yesterday. Spent four hours at an IT training and then drove to my kettle bell class. It was worth it. Love feeling stronger. However, got a call from my brother on the way home that was kind of upsetting. He had prostate cancer and was treated nine years ago and doing well. Today he got hit call that his blood work was elevated. May be a glitch but he recently went through treatment, successfully, for lung cancer recently went through treatment, successfully, for lung cancer.
