  • Day 3 – UK – Reluctant FD

Spreadsheet working for me too, so have updated. Thanks @coda and @strawberriesandcream .

Had a bit of a blow-out weekend and as my weight is now nicely in the mid healthy BMI range I am suddenly struggling to continue. I need to lose at least another 4.5cm from my waist though and realistically I’m not going to be able to do that without dropping a few more kgs. Also, I have failed miserably in the past at maintenance, so I don’t feel I can trust myself to stop FDs just yet.

My DD suggested I try one FD and substitute the other FD for a slightly higher calorie but low carb day. Do you think this would work to continue to shrink my waist (assuming I don’t sabotage by over-doing it at the weekend)?

    4th post

Hi Liathanail – You can record what type of day you are having and also your weight if you wish to. Some people weigh weekly, some after FDs, some just once at the end of the month. It’s entirely up to what suits you best. We use a mix of imperial and metric depending on where we live and what we’re used to. Hope that helps. x

Day 3, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Maintaining below goal weight of 145, just lazing around doing very little. Today is my 4th of July day off of work so I am celebrating America by doing, nothing ! We live at a beautiful lake resort town but experience has taught us to avoid the waterfront during what the locals call “amateur hour” when the tourists ascend and manage to pack a year’s worth of celebration into a day or two.

Shall do a bit of exercise of course and will take a walk around the yard and water the annuals and baskets – deadhead a bit – then toast this great nation with a glass of wine and watch the hubby mow the lawn. Very, very grateful to those willing to put their life on the line to keep us free.

    My best to you all.

Day 3 – SW WA USA – NFD

Beginning weight for July is 203 lbs. Still in the plateau bounce but not to the top of the bounce. I was glad not to go up on ocean getaway.

Hopefully will break the plateau & head down to 197 or below.

So just about to go to bed on my first fasting day and feeling okay! Was starving around dinner time but my Thai red curry was lovely and I’m now thinking of all the things I can eat in the morning now!

One minor side effect so far – my lips are really really dry! And I’ve been drinking a ton of water.

Happy Fourth of July to our American Friends for tomorrow!

Day 3 FD St. Louis USA
Thanks for adding me to the pocket list for my first of my back to back fast days for the week. Best of luck to all.

    Day 3 – USA – NFD

@coda, great job on the spreadsheet; I copied and pasted from your post and it came up right away and I was able to enter my statistics so far.

@bert1802, I never knew that’s what they were saying in that song “A Lion Sleeps Tonight” (a whim away)…I thought it was an African chant or something….reminds me of a time we were having a family bbq and started talking about all the old songs we sang that we didn’t know the correct lyrics to, so we sang whatever we thought they said: Example: (Beatles: Still My Guitar Gently Weeps became Steal My Guitar Gently, Please) and many other hysterical examples.

    Hi @coda,

I’m hoping to join for July, I hope I’m not too late! I joined a challenge once before but I fell by the wayside. Anyway, this month I will see it through! Onwards and inwards πŸ™‚

Hi here is a very funny link to Peter Kay and mis heard lyrics. I heard it ages ago. no offence meant by any of the content x

Hi @soontobesvelte i will add you to the challenge. This is the one you’ll see to through to the end!

    Day 4, Australia, NFD

    Thanks @coda πŸ™‚

    Day 3 – USA – NFD

OH MY GOODNESS….@Coda, that was absolutely hysterical. Thanks for a bunch of wonderful belly laughs!

    Day 4 Australia FD
Battling demons today, will just add the food dragons in the fray!

I have never been able to edit the spreadsheet. Can someone school me on how to?

    Day 3/NFD/ Perth Australia

    Day 4/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Home from a wonderful holiday with my beautiful grandchildren. Today will be spent relaxing and catching up with all the posts. Also hoping to make a couple of batches of stock for warming soups on fast days.

@molij what is the zero calorie yogurt and strawberries? I’m intrigued.

Happy to say I’m still under goal weight but need to shed a couple of pounds to be back in my happy weight zone. Too many glasses of delicious wine pocket winos!

Have a great day everyone and a happy 4th of July to those who are already celebrating.

    Day 4 – Tokyo Japan – NFD 81.9kg

Made it 37 hours before I broke my fast. I hope everyone else has a good fast too!

strawberriesandcream I hope your second day goes well too. You probably burn a lot more fat on the second day in a row!

    Day 3, FD
I do find it easier not to eat at all on FDs. If I were to plan a day of 500 calories I’d start to think about food too much. I’m quite content with my morning coffees and water for the day.

Hope all other fasters are doing ok.

    Day 3, Guildford UK, CFD

Yesterday was a washout because dealing with my solicitor triggered me.

I ate an ice cream and burger (no bun)

    Feel like a sinner….

Day 4 – Shanghai but on holiday in Thailand – FD

Thanks @coda for putting up the spreadsheet.

Thanks @ducks_d for the Couch to 5k affirmation. My legs really ache today, but I I hope that slow and steady will win the race here. Happy, at this rate, to spend quite a while on “week 1”.

Although I have never found a FD that difficult when I am at work, last night I dreamt about my FD menu endlessly. @pippapah – I hear you about the “reluctant” FD.

@penz how long have you been able to maintain zero calories on FDs? Do you do things differently on FDs in terms of physical activity, bed time etc? Is this more of a mental challenge than a physical one?

Best 4th of July wishes to all.

Day 3, Mountaintop PA USA, NFD

@coda Spreadsheet perfect. Posted and ready for a great month of July.

Enjoying our Independence Day weekend in US. Lots of red, white and blue. Parade in our town tomorrow. Old fashioned fun.

Nice dinners every night. Lots of time with grandchildren. Life is good.

    Day 3,Ottawa FD

It was a long weekend for us here in Canada. I have never fasted on a weekend before. It was much harder than fasting on work day.Anyhow I managed to end the day within 500 cal. I also got 13k step on fitbit. I am happy.
    Sabina

    Day 3 | Alaska | FD

Please include me in the July Challenge. I’m not real sure how I ended June challenge but I do know I didn’t make my goal. It’s hard to know what my actual weight is, is it the weight after a NFD, after two NFD? I don’t know. I do know that after my last FD I saw the lowest number I’ve seen on the scale in a very long time, but unfortunately it was short lived and I have been binging since Friday night. Some of this is due to marital problems and emo eating, some is binging because there is so much junk food in my house at all times and I can only resist so much. I do feel grateful I found this group and this way of life even if I’m quiet and consistently chasing my tail.

    Day 4 – UAE – NFD

Updated spreadsheet to reflect my plan

    Day 4 * Germany * NFD

    Day 4, India, NFD

Day 4 NFD Country West Australia
    Day 1 NFD
    Day 2 NFD
    Day 3 NFD
    @coda thanks for hosting July.
I’Ve been MIA due to computer/internet issues, wedding on the weekend etc.
Still have the same 2 kgs to eliminate that have hung around for 16 weeks!!! But I’m still here and up for the challenge!

Day 3 Canada FD Hello Everyone, I made it through the first day of the fast! Yeah! I feel very empowered. I will fast again this week on Wednesday and upping the calories to 800 made it more doable for me. I think once I get use to it I can drop the calories to 500. Baby steps.

    Day 4 UK NFD 🌈

Successful FD yesterday, missed out on dinner as grazed all day, shut kitchen early and went to the gym, increased water. Would have felt better if had proper dinner, remember for tomorrow, office grazing not my friend.

πŸ’¦πŸ‰πŸ’¦πŸ‰πŸ’¦πŸ‰πŸ’¦πŸ‰πŸ’¦πŸ‰πŸŠπŸ’¦πŸŠπŸ’¦πŸŠπŸ’¦found out I drink a lot more if I have a few glasses with squash in it, obviously, thinking that if it makes me drink more water then it’s better to have than not to have.

    Keep on keeping on. πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

    Day 4 UK FD

Still feel full from having seconds last night so fasting should be easy, if I haven’t jinxed it by saying that. 172 again so despite that extra food no harm done. I have gone from being afraid to weigh myself in case I get disheartened to checking them several times a day. I take great satisfaction from being under certain milestones even when dressed. Yesterday I was under 175 even fully dressed with my kindle in my pocket. I knew I was doing well when the other day I weighed less in the evening than in the morning and then the next morning there was the new low:) I no longer get upset when the scales bounce back up. I know I need to see a new low a couple of times before I get to keep it. I even rode out last months plateau without stressing when it was nearly static for three weeks. The previous time when that happened I flailed around for a solution and switched to the BSD. This time I just carried on as usual and the weight started shifting much faster by itself, no changes necessary, just perseverance. This does work but on its own time scale, not yours.

    Day 4 | London | NFD

It was good to get a FD under the belt yesterday. I also managed to get a 5k run in, I was pretty tired after work yesterday, so I was pleased that I got myself out of the door to run. I put the tiredness down to a normal Monday and not the fasting.

Like many have said, I don’t really feel the need for breakfast anymore, my first meal will be lunch today. On Tuesday evening I do salsa aerobics which I love. So aiming for a healthy day.

Wishing everyone a happy day, especially our American friends, Happy 4th July πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

    Still day 3 here –

@fatrabbit – congratulations on reaching 172! What fasting protocol are you following presently, ADF or 5:2?

@at – the beach time was a mixed bag on some levels but eating wise I made mostly good choices. Also, got quite a lot of walking in around shops plus on the beach.

    I’m starting today. Thanks

Hello day 4 co down ni nfd
Happy independence day to all celebrating (mindfully off course)

    Day 4 Newcastle UK NFD.

Day 4 UK NFD Delighted that I managed liquids only til evening yesterday then a nice balanced meal, feel empowered!

@flourbaby – I’m with you on the 30 day shred- challenging but soooo much easier when you lose weight – I’ve been doing it off & on for years ,still struggle with the jumping lunges

@laurealice I moved to Brighton in 1986 – for what I thought at the time would be a year or 2 , it’s changed a bit in 30 years ,mostly for the better Seagulls are getting more daring every year though

@coda & @strawberriesandcream After all your hard work may even try the spreadsheet πŸ˜€ Although to be honest it’s the moral support that does it for me

    Day4, Northumberland UK, FD

A bit below TDEE yesterday so balance restored ready for today’s fast day. Aiming for 500 calories, but anything below 800 seems to work OK for me at the moment. Should be able to squeeze in an hour at the gym which always helps.

The rain is back here after a few brighter days, but the garden will be happy for it.

    Welcome to
    Lola97
Lilymaryin – so glad you are both joining us again
    Nan77
I’ll add you to spreadsheet if you haven’t already and then it’s up to you to fill in as you want.

@brightonbelle – give it a go just another tool in the box which may help.

@rainbowsmile – repentance and absolution found here!

@basyjames just fill in what you need and that’s you. It saves it for you. I find though it’s awkward from a phone better opening it on a pc if you can. If you edit it, close it and re-open it you should find the changes still there.🀞

    2nd post

thanks @annemarilyn I can’t believe it when I look at the scales and see that number but yet another size trousers are getting loose so it must be right. I got the 30s on yesterday, although rather too much bulges out of the top of them. A good reminder not to relax on my laurels however, I do have another 20lbs to lose. I am intending to only do two fast days aiming for a more standard 5 2 but it is so tempting to do an extra fast day when the weight is shifting like this that is more of a 4 3 at the moment. I am using a six hour eating window every day too, I think the 4 hour one was making me eat too much at once, and a longer one opens the gates to the dragon.

Congrats to all those completing their first fasts. It is sooooo hard at the beginning! But it does get easier particularly once/if you break the carb habit. I never eat sugar, bread, pasta etc anymore and don’t want it or miss it. Everything else tastes better now than it ever did. Your tastebuds wake up without it. Don’t let those unhealthy gut bacteria boss you about, choose your own food! Oops got a bit carried away there, but I was such a pasta fiend, that is why I was so big – 250lbs :(( If I can do it so can you!

Fd South Wales uk. Hi all not feeling to good today avnt gone into work so going to do a fast day x

    Day 4 – Woking, UK – NFD

@coda, @strawberriesandcream – thanks for the spreadsheet and your patient answering of all my questions! Filled in now.

Yesterday was a good FD – 539 kcals and did another 30 mins on the mini trampoline.
I even managed to resist temptation at lunch – a friend at work returned from her maternity leave and asked me to go for a pub lunch. I managed to sit sipping a Diet Coke whilst she ate a plate of nachos – no clue where the willpower for that came from but long may it continue! πŸ™‚

NFD today and a session with the personal trainer tonight. Well done to the huge list of people fasting yesterday and good luck to those fasting today.

DAY 4 CD – UK – Yesterday was my 1st FD of July challenge. It went really well. 1 hour of Body Pump and felt great afterwards; had the best nights sleep and woke feeling refreshed (this is not normal for me)

I am committing to 4 control days per week as the last time I did 5:2 I went a bit crazy on the NFD’s. 1 day per week will be a NFD where I will trust myself to not go overboard on food!

My 40th is back end of July along with a holiday, so I’m gonna get some good practices in place before then.

Tomorrow is my 2nd FD of the week and I know I can stick to it – looking forward to the weigh in next Tuesday πŸ™‚

Thanks for the motivation and tips – I’m so excited to see what I can do on this diet πŸ™‚

Day 4, Newcastle UK, FD (2nd of B2B)

I never knew there were so many calories in an 8oz grilled sirloin! So despite my aim to stick to 500 calories on my first FD yesterday it ended up at 778. However, would have been 95 less had I not had to use up the fresh peppercorn sauce that could not be frozen. Today should be easier to stay around 500 calories. @sirisan & @dykask – I do find that back to back FDs Monday/Tuesday work best for me, so that’s why I have gone back to that pattern. I will also have a very controlled Wednesday – which may even qualify as a FD if it comes in at 800 cals or less. I’ll see how it goes this week.

@tlc2 – you’re welcome and great to see you with us in July. @la Dolcevita – it’s never too late! @snowflake56 – I told him, he laughed and said he’s very pleased for us πŸ™‚ @pippapah – I think generally sticking to low carb – ie. limiting/eliminating bread, pasta, rice, potato, is a good strategy for slow and consistent shedding of weight. @lindasue – sounds like you had the perfect day yesterday. @rainbowsmile – there’s no sinning in this WOL on food choices so long as you stayed within TDEE your ice cream and burger were fine – especially if they made you happy. Yes, more healthy food choices are preferable on the whole but life would be very boring if we didn’t treat ourselves occasionally. @lynzm, @elksteer & @sabina – well done on your successful FDs and yes @sabina – much harder on weekends – well I find so anyway. @lola907 – about weighing – choose a day a week and stick to it. Whether that’s after FDs or not doesn’t really matter. What you’ll see is a gradual and consistent trend downwards. Many of us weigh after FDs only to find we’ve bounced up again after the first NFD. Hugs to you at this stressful time. Maybe have a good clear out of junk food and that might be a good step that will help bolster you emotionally right now. Good to see you @lilymartin πŸ™‚

@ziggyb1 and @ducks_d – I am unashamedly going to repeat @xrox‘s great quote again. I think it is a great tool to help slay hunger dragons on FDs.
“HUNGER IS FAT CRYING. LET’S MAKE IT WEEP!!”

Happy Fourth of July celebrations to all our US friends. I hope the weather is better with you than it is here today. 13C and raining.

    Day 4, UK, NFD

Looks like I’ve hit another plateau. According tto my Fitbit, I’ve expended more than 10k kcal since Saturday morning. Saturday was a day to forget (4 kcal+?), but Sunday and Monday were 0 kcal FDs, so overall I was hoping to be 0.7kg down. Instead I’m 0.1kg up 😑

    Day 4 Belfast FD (b2b)

Happy 4th of July to our American friends.
A successful FD yesterday and am back to back-Ing today because I can’t do my usual Thursday.
@rainbowsmile think of it as ‘power eating!’ Just reset that button!
@coda that’s the way to start the day! LOL!
@ Basyjames are you using a laptop or an iPad? I use my laptop to edit the spreadsheet.
@sabina credit to you for fasting at the weekend. That’s a tough one.
Lola907 stay strong. We’re here for you. Xo
@lilymartin holding your hand. There is hope – my plateau seems to have moved down the mountain a little.
    An epic journey @ fatrabbit!
Thank you for your quote yesterday @strawberriesandcream – it hit the nail on the head for me.

‘I may not be there yet but I’m closer than I was yesterday’. Onwards and downwards everyone!

Happy 4th July to our fellow Americans. @coda thank you for your warm welcome.
Yesterday was good fast day, today Tdee cals luckily as have work mtg at lunchtime. Have a great day everyone.

    DAY 4 – UK – FD

Can’t believe I can get excited over a FD – but I am – at last a day without “stuff” going on……now if only I can control the “stuff” days it would make life so much easier. But here we go and hope I can get that control back.

    second post.
Catching up as I have only posted today and have 4 days and 7 pages to go! But I do it at my own pace and I really find it helps me.
@debster251, thanks for the hand hold, really needing it but not stressing just wish the weight would lodge somewhere else.
I hope to fill in the spreadsheet this month to see if that helps. As someone said it is another tool. I already use the Tracker but have not plugged numbers for some time now.
Other life matters more important for me over June.
I love this forum for it’s international flavour and the fact that we are all at different places, then some on the same plateau, then some lose, then some gain etc. We all help each other and it’s just lovely when the world outside can be a bit grim.
@Strawberriesandcream love the saying about fat. Adopting it from now.
@coda, it feels good to be back!

    Day 4 UK 2nd of B2B

FD went well yesterday so having 2nd FD today. Trying to make a good start on the 2 Kg target for July. Loving all the posts and support from this amazing international group! @coda, thanks for the Peter Kay link, very funny!
Raining here too so getting ready to go to the gym for my walk.
