  • Day 11……Florida…..NFD

    Debster……. Don’t let go of my leg, your slowly pulling me in the right direction.

    Yesterday was a great FD and I say great because the snack dragon was really on my case last night. I kept saying in 5 min., I’ll have a snack. Then, I went to bed saying I’ll have it tomorrow. Win-win!

    So, this post is a little short! My OH is bit chatty this morning!

    At any given time, the urge to sing the lion sleeps tonight is only a whim away, a whim away, a whim away!

    I’m in

    Day 11 Massachusetts USA NFD Feeling hungry this am but another successful FD under my belt. I had just breakfast and dinner and a small piece of chocolate with my evening (de-caf) tea. It was easier with the company and holiday over. We’re going shopping for the week today- need salads, fruits and vegetables, and more lean protein. Just past the 1/3 point this month folks. Congratulations!

    2nd post

    @debster251 Congrats on getting into the tens! I hope I make it there eventually. I am excited about being about to get into the elevens.

    @flourbaby I had eggcups whdn I lived in America but my mum sent them for Christmas. I think I remember seeing people eat boiled eggs out of a dish. And they don’t do soldiers. My husband was very puzzled by them and I couldn’t tell him why they are called that, they just are. And no kettles. He heated water for tea in a saucepan. Coffee is always from a coffee maker, I hardly ever saw anyone drinking instant. I don’t drink tea myself so wasn’t fussed about the lack of kettle.

    @stevetoon how un-nerving!

    @bert and @fuvvie well done on the delaying tactics.

    I am really hungry and trying not to break my fast quite yet. Hence reading posts to distract myself as it is so wet outside and I don’t have enough to do. But ii is now afternoon so I made it, I might eat now.

    Day 12/NFD/Melbourne Australia

    Early post as I have a very busy day tomorrow and a sleepover planned with my gorgeous grandchildren. Today’s controlled day turned into a fast day. I broke my fast at 6pm with a warming bowl of homemade vegetable, chickpea (garbanzo), rookwurst and chili soup. Managed to stay under 500 calories. So very happy with that.

    Sorry I haven’t had time to read posts. Hope everyone is ok?

    One day at a time. Onwards and downwards.

    Day 11 – France – NFD

    @steve toon taxi driver: you poor thing, how very stressful for you all. Thank goodness it was a false alert

    @flourbaby Don’t forget the dippy soldiers WITH Marmite πŸ˜‰ (My French OH thinks Marmite smells like dead rat and won’t kiss me after my toast, pfff cultural thing). And what is a numpty? Think I’ve been away too long!

    Successfully fasted yesterday and am cooking more than usual for OH’s gut cleansing week. Made Dr M’s green flaxseed bread and after two slices at lunchtime feel incredibly full. A bit too full in fact. Why did I have two?

    Autumn here in France. At the moment we’re getting all four seasons in one week.

    Happy Tuesday team!

    Day 11 – FIN – FD
    Day 10 – NFD
    Day 9 – NFD
    Day 8 – NFD
    Day 7 – NFD
    Day 6 – FD-ish

    I’ve been away and thus unable to post. My fast last Thursday fell a little flat after I broke my fast – I suppose I felt some kind of group pressure and gave in to temptations – chips, to be precise, followed by the meal I was planning to have (there might have been some ice cream involved as well). I did fast for 22 hours before that, though, so I’m still counting it as a fast. I’m gladly welcoming today’s fast after a weekend of fun, sun and sailing. I’m hoping fasting and liquids will also help calm all the hormonal action on face (don’t know if it was caused by ice cream, alcohol, sunscreen or the occasional lack of water – probably a combination of everything).

    @coda @strawberriesandcream Thank you for kindly welcoming me back.

    @liathanail
    If I consume less than my TDEE cals then it is a CD…right? Is there a number?

    @xrox
    I am also facing the same issue…it is as if I am on a perpetual plateau… Lost around 9kgs since March and now I am stuck at the same weight for over a month…

    @everyone
    would like to know what to do next?

    Day 11, NFD, Florida (via Aus)

    @flourbaby – you’re so right. When we arrived in the States with our household goods, the removalists could not understand what our egg cups were for, and our explanation did not make sense to him. (How do you crack the lid off a boiled egg, without it sitting nice and expectantly in its little cup!?) And you can find kettles here (“water jugs”) but it can be an effort.

    @rahul1905 – the “pocket list” is a list of names you can keep in your pocket. For example, you normally do a fast day on a Tuesday, you can keep a list of all the other people who are sharing the same FD as you as a physical reminder that you’re not alone, we’re all in this together, and other people are having the same experiences as you. A gentle reminder of the incredible support network out here!

    Good FD yesterday. I was quite hungry last night and thought I’d have a nibble on some leftovers we had, only to discover the OH had eaten it for lunch. This was the “break” in automated routine I needed, and I ended up not eating.

    Day 11 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

    Quick hello – will read posts later. Doing fine. Maintenance working. YEAH!

    Onward and downward.

    Day 11 FD Akron OH. It’s great to read all the encouraging thoughts on this forum.
    Have a good day everyone, make today awesome.

    Second post
    @flourbaby A little bird told me hat you are going on holiday! I’ll miss posting tomorrow cos I’m travelling , but have a wonderful time and as a fellow pocket wino, I’m hoping you’ll represent this illustrious group with enthusiasm and vigour!
    @stevetoontaxidriver – well at least you got an impromptu health MOT, even if the shock nearly killed you and your good lady wife!
    @fatrabbit any milestone is important, as your journey will testify. I’m taking my inspiration from you!
    @laurealice. Did you enjoy the flaxseed bread? That was one of my recipe trials, but thought mine was a bit stodgy.
    @jisika, as a plateau hugger for several months, I have doubled my water intake this last week, following the advice of many on this forum; low and behold, my weight has started to come down! It can only be good for you.
    @bert I’ve got both legs!
    I’m also a happy bunny, because all being well, young son has finally got his house.

    Onward and downwards!

    Day 11 FD 2d B2n St. Louis USA

    Best of luck all

    Day 11 Chicago, Illinois – NFD
    Weigh in at 141, 1 pound gain ugh!!

    @coda I went into the spreadsheet yesterday and noticed all the wrong information was by my name, so I changed it. When I went in there again today it was all wrong again, so I changed it again. Not sure if someone is recording something on the wrong line.

    Third post – today is now an NFD. Too tired, and too hungry, to fast today. Will reset tomorrow or Thursday.

    Day 11, Gozo Malta, nfd

    Today I’m trying to eat within my tdee.

    It’s a hot sunny day here until next Saturday as there is a heatwave.

    Have a great Tuesday everyone, onwards and downwards

    Day 11 Thailand NFD

    It is lovely to read about your active lives, even though I’m stuck in bed with bronchitis. Purple potatoes, egg cups and flaxseed bread. 3 things that I now think are missing in my life.

    As everything I eat at the moment tastes vile, I have shed 2kg in a week, which is too much. I always wondered what B2B would look like, but wouldn’t wish this version on anyone.

    Loaded up with drugs now, so hope to be back to a normal 5:2 in the next few days. My graph is going to be haywire!

    I think the first sign of tastebuds being back to normal will be some toast and Marmite.

    Wishing you all a great day, whether fasting or not!

    Day 11–ABQ–NFD

    Okay, I grew up in a house with a kettle and have always had a kettle (I think I bought my last one at Bed, Bath and Beyond in fact). We have the stovetop kind and the electric kind. We drink tea although definitely not like in the UK, and Nescafe isn’t really popular.

    As for egg cups, my grandmother had them but soft-boiled eggs are not really a thing here any more. I don’t know why.

    Yesterday’s fast day went sideways when we decided to go out for dinner (AC isn’t working and the house was 89 degrees inside!). Had a chile relleno smothered in red chile sauce, and a pint of Silver margarita though (with fresh lime, not the mix), so I guess it was worth it.

    Day 11, Wales UK, CD

    Guess what I had for lunch today, and before checking in – a soft boiled egg served in an egg cup….topical!
    Yesterday was a very well controlled NFD of around 1200 cals so planning to do same again today so that I can relax a bit and enjoy dinner out tomorrow, then a FD Thursday.

    Stay strong today everyone – especially all of you on a FD.

    Day 11 – SW WA USA – NFD (hopefully controlled)

    Yesterday, I was in the company of many with a successful FD. The scale showed a downward movement after going the other way on the weekend.

    Joining in on the egg cup & kettles topic @flourbaby, I’m a Canadian living in the US for quite a while. I still have a couple of egg cups that I got for a wedding gift years back. I don’t use them as I eat hard boiled eggs in different ways; not soft ones. In homes as well as restaurants, people usually have eggs fixed in the frying pan in various ways but not in egg cups. One might be able to get them in an egg cup at some “Tea” places where one makes a reservation for a special tea with little sandwiches & pastries.. As for kettles, I have gone through several, the most recent one given to me as a gift from my son (It whistles when ready).

    @fatrabbit – what are soldiers?

    @debster251 – enjoy your caravan days away (I’m thinking an RV – recreational vehicle here in the USA), glad you’re slithering a little further down the mountain. I hope to join you and @bert1802 & company on the way down.

    @steve toon taxi driver – what excitement at your place with the ambulance and all. So glad you got a clean bill of health though. I was introduced to purple potatoes in Hawaii a few years back. I’ll have to check into them. I wonder if they have less carbs.

    @chumi – are you back to health after your earlier injury?

    @metatuta and others doing LCHF or Keto along with 5:2 – are you trying to keep your carbs within a certain number?

    Day 11: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD
    Wedding Anniversary today, 30 years!

    Still day 11 –

    @ciren2 – Happy 30th Anniversary! That’s a wonderful accomplishment. May you have many more.

    @ciren2 Congratulations!! Hope you and your husband enjoy a wonderful celebration.

    Day 11, USA: Kansas, NFD

    Yesterday I had a good FD, though I’m still finding my fingers freezing late in the evening. I’ve been drinking hot tea like crazy, though I admittedly hold the cup more than drink now that I know too much tea at night affects my GERD. It’s been a learning experience this month.

    Already a third of the way through! We’re doing great!

    Day 11 NFD California USA

    I’m still in the 143’s or the 64’s and 65’s. I had a bagel with butter and Vegemite for breakfast. I don’t usually eat breakfast but since I’ve tried the Vegemite, it seems like it goes mostly with bread products, (I tried it on broccoli yesterday. Doesn’t go with that at all!) so I hope this holds me til later in the day.

    We have always had a teakettle and use both a stovetop one now and an electric one which is faster. Egg cups are more unusual to see around here, but they really do look nice on a breakfast or brunch table. (We are often much less civilized and peel our eggs over the sink πŸ™‚ )

    Look at these egg cups: https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Creative-Design-Kitchen-Black/dp/B06XGD6SKC/ref=sr_1_14?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1499792322&sr=1-14&keywords=Egg+cups Lol!

    @ciren2. Happy Wedding Anniversary- 30 years is a massive achievement. It’s our 30th Anniversary on 25th July and if I remember rightly @okeydokeyand @fordprefect celebrate theirs next week. Must have been something in the water in July 87!

    Have a great special day. Hoping you and your husband celebrate in style! πŸ‘°πŸŽ‰πŸ₯‚πŸΎ

    Day 11 – McMinnville Oregon USA NFD
    Day 10 – NFD
    Yikes, the last couple of days have been busy and I’ve not found the time to read posts. I have been doing a good job with controlled eating and the scales are down.

    @lilymartin – My mother had dementia/alzheimers so my heart goes out to you. πŸ’•
    @steve toon taxi driver – Glad to hear all is well.
    @ciren2 – Happy anniversary πŸŽ‰

    @californiadreamer- Yes, I have a new computer coming via Amazon Prime Day deal. I talked with the techie this morning (a man from my church, so I trust his evaluation especially) that he could not find a replacement power pack for the desktop. As much as I love my iPad more than my Samsung phone, I used that desktop all the time at home. Glad to have had a computer backup service, so files will be intact. YEAH!

    @liathanail – your description of fat cells had me chuckling! I could just envision them talking to the body, water, fat, etc. with joyful abandon. I have heard those cells likened to garbage bags that could either be filled or not, and that you really never lose them. My biggest question is, when and how do you acquire them? Is everyone born with the same number and location? You do seem to know a lot about them!

    Day 11, UK, FD

    Forgot to check in this mornng. FD going well. @lilymartin, thanks for your support. Crikey – not sure I could cope with being on a plateau for 5 months; 10 days is bad enough!

    Day 11 – USA – NFD

    @Stevetoon, glad all went well…what an alarming situation! @ciren2, many more happy years to you and OH! Regarding kettles, we always use whistling ones on the stove; we drink tea in the a.m. only. Can’t handle the caffiene past 10 a.m. or so or we won’t sleep. Never used egg cups.

    Gosh what a week! I completed a charity walk for Macmillan on Saturday. A 23.5 mile, very hilly, very hot challenge on the English south coast. I’ve done lots of walking but I can honestly say it was the toughest thing I’ve ever done – I managed to stave off heat stroke and walked across the finish line with a big blister and a wobbly knee. It was one of the reasons why I decided I needed to lose a bit of weight back in June and whilst the last week has been a write-off in terms of fasting (I’ve been so hungry since Sunday that I think I’ve been re-carbing!!), I’ll be back on the wagon on Thursday and maybe add in a couple of 16:8 days just to get me back on track!

    Day 11, Emden Germany, NFD

    Me again!
    When we were travelling in Canada, none of our hotel rooms had kettles, only coffee makers. I missed my tea! I couldn’t imagine living without a kettle (have a coffee maker too) and the first crockery my kids got, was a set with a plate, bowl and egg cup. In fact I haven’t had egg and soldiers for ages. That’s tomorrow’s brunch taken care of!
    @Lagrandebouff wishing you a,speedy recovery
    @annemarilyn my caravan is a touring van, hitched up to the car, not what what we call a ‘motor home’. It’s great, and a cheap weekend away. We use it for long weekends and a few nights longer. I keep it packed all season, so when we go away, all you have to put in is the food, clothes and of course chilled wine or gin! That, of course is why I’m stuck on the plateau!
    @ciren2 happy anniversary. A great achievement.
    @lisalily82. Have you tried decaf tea and coffee? My consultant told me to cut the caffeine and it has made a difference.
    @califdreamer that puts egg cups on a whole new level! Lol!
    Being on this forum is making more wear out google. Having googled ‘Bed, bath and beyond’ I got s little message that they are now delivering to the U.K. Oh dear!

    3rd post
    @songbirdme there’s a good article on fat cells here: http://scienceblogs.com/notrocketscience/2008/05/04/fat-cell-number-is-set-in-childhood-and-stays-constant-in-ad/ and as it says in the link the number is set in childhood/adolescence and then stays constant. About 8% of them die off and are replaced each year but the overall number stays the same. The size of them can change depending on how full they are.

    @Jiskia I don’t really do control days myself so I’m sure someone else can give you better information. From what I understand there’s no fixed number, just a decent amount under TDEE but not low enough to count as a fast day.

    @liathanail – thanks for that link! Wow… guess we are what our parents fed us to a certain extent then. Oh well, we just need to keep those fat cells as empty as possible! Ha ha!

    Yes, calling a NFD a CD came about at least 6 months ago for us to really pay attention to our NFD’s and keep them controlled. So many of us have had worse issues on NFD’s than on FD’s.

    Hello day 11 co down ni nfd

    Welcome @jisika and @michelinstar

    @Chitowngal I’ve no idea who could be changing things on your line – what is being changed, fd’s and nfds? Guess the suspect has a name beginning with C if they mistake your line with theirs. Perhaps if everyone can check they are on correct name b4 changing things?

    I am so envious @debster251 to have glimpsed a 10 something. I’m heading up to meet @fatrabbit coming down lol but even tho I feel like just throwing in the towel I know I won’t/can’t. Checking in everyday is so ingrained now. I just need to adjust something and get back on track to make some downward progress. It will come.

    @Chitowngal I had a look at the spreadsheet from my phone and don’t see any info for you at all ☹. I usually only go on from my pc at work as I can update things – i can’t from my phone for some reason. Strange – forget that just checked again and there is information maybe I tried wrong link?? Time to sleep!

    Day 12 FD country West Australia
    @ciren – congratulations and a Happy Anniversary. What a wonderful milestone.
    My parents-in-law recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. They are both still on the farm and very healthy though getting a bit frail. They have lived on a very good diet all their married lives and are still slim. My FIL still fits his wedding suit!.
    I keep joking that they were 30 years ahead of their time and if they’d written a book about it, they would be quite rich by now!
    @lagrandebouffe, all the best for a speedy recovery. It’s the pits feeling unwell and not an ideal way to lose weight.
    @bigviking, yes 5 months has certainly been a testing time!!!! It has made me re-evaluate, experiment but mostly made me stick with something. This has been the biggie for me as I am notorious for not having much stickability.
    In November 2016 I gave myself a year to see if this WOL was for me.
    I thought it would require at least that time with ups and downs to see what happens.
    Well, with less than 4 months to go , having spent 5 months on the plateau has not been easy……
    @awilson, thanks for the support. Dementia is a vile disease robbing us of the parents and loved ones as we knew them. It is hard seeing them cope with living with dementia.
    Mum still enjoys going out for a coffee which we did yesterday and sat in a nice sunny place out of the wind watching some children play on the swings. It was a special time as mum was quite lucid.

    I am intrigued with the discussion about egg cups, kettles etc.
    On my FDs I sometimes have a boiled egg in an eggcup with toast( often spread with butter and Vegemite) cut into ‘soldiers’ – strips or fingers , usually about 4 per slice, which I dip into the top of my just soft egg. Dumb question , but how else can you eat boiled eggs otherwise??
    I am also fascinated at the thought of not having an electric kettle to boil water for tea! I come from a family of great tea and coffee drinkers, often having up to 8 cups a day.
    How much more then dietary information we learn on this site!
    Have a good day and know that if you’re fasting your food craving is just ‘ a whim away’ – tomorrow! Thanks @bert!
    Things to be grateful for
    1. Rain
    2. Rain
    3. Rain – and still praying for more. The sheep are very hungry.
    πŸ™ƒβ˜‚οΈβ˜‚οΈπŸ™

    Day 12 – Mornington Peninsula Vic Australia – NFD

    After B2B Mon/Tues this week and a total loss of 2.2 kg (4.8lbs) for the week I’m feeling a bit silly that I didn’t do this sooner! I do realise most of it would be fluid and I have been drinking around 2.5-3 litres of water every day. Had some grilled tomatoes and portabella mushrooms for breakfast with poached eggs and avocado. As to the discussion about egg cups, used them all the time when I lived in Sweden now I simply make poached eggs. I am lucky to have four gorgeous hens who give me fresh eggs every day.

    @ciren2 – Congratulations! May you have many more happy days together 😊. My hubby and I celebrated 25 years in January.
    @debster251 – I only took up quilting about 18 months ago but have caught the bug! I like other crafts as well but have become a bit obsessed as of late. Just finished an appliquΓ© wall hanging featuring – you guessed it – chickens! I am thinking of entering into my local CWA exhibition later in the year if I can only get my act together and come up with a decent design concept.

    Onwards and downwards!

    Day 12 | Australia | very reluctant FD

    But trying to jump off this plateau by adding two glasses water to the morning routine!

    @ciren2 – a belated happy anniversary to you!!

    It’s been a long time since I’ve done 2 posts in one day but I had actually tonight.
    First because as the kid and I were getting ready for our nightly walk. So, I tried on a pair of shorts I haven’t worn in over two years and the damn things fit.

    The scale was down this morning but .i was to afraid to say anything, in case it was just a fluke.

    Anyways, that’s my story, at least for tonight!

    Day 12, Sydney Australia, FD.

    Just back from a midwinter holiday with the family. One that involved some fast food, chocolate and junk food. But that’s the good thing about intermittent fasting, it’s so easy to make a clean start and undo the damage quickly.

    Today is my 4th fasting day so far this month. For lunch I had some sardines and a couple of cheese sticks. Later in the afternoon I’m going to have some miso soup, then some broccoli when I get home.

    Day 12 – Tokyo Japan – NFD

    Not pushing anything today, started slow a little under the weather. I think it is just the heat. 32C with 75% humidity.

    Day 12 Israel FD
    Starting the day here, positive and optimistic!!

    Day 12 UK FD 🌈 (6AFD)

    Tired today and it’s raining. Planning a good FD. πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ’¦πŸ‰

    Day 12 UK FD

    169.8lbs. Held onto the 160s despite the hunger dragons going on a rampage yesterday and sweeping me along. I think they will be well hungover today and let me fast quite easily.

    @annemarilyn soldiers are strips of toast cut so as to fit when dipped into a boiled egg in an egg cup with its top removed. Debate can be had about which end should be opened…

    2nd post

    @fatrabbit you just blew my mind, pointy end is the one to be opened, who would put an egg in an egg cup the other way??….I think I’m getting a little OCD as I’m getting older.

    @lagrandebouffe hope you’re feeling better soon!

    @bert1802 cheering you on!

    Day 12 – Woking, UK – NFD
    248lbs
    Would normally be a fast day but travelling to Nuremberg today for work meetings so I’ve shifted it to Friday when I’m travelling back. Today and tomorrow will involve dinner out with colleagues so I’m going to be in damage limitation mode. I’ll check in as usual but won’t be able to weigh myself which is probably a good thing.

    Some pocket fasters for Day 12

    @lilymartin
    @ducks_d
    @big_bill
    @mirandash
