Day 10, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

    Maintenance mode.

Fasting, very hungry and it feels great. Water and tea only until a salad tonight. Plan to do the same on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Could I eat, well yes. Will I, well no.

Saw something along that vein online this morning:

When you change your mindset, and see the food you eat as fuel, and every meal and snack as an opportunity to nourish your body, you’ll gladly reach for an apple over a cookie. That’s not to say you can never have a cookie, or that you won’t ever crave one while eating a mostly healthy diet, but there’s a definite shift that happens when you choose to eat this way. You no longer look at unhealthy foods and say, “Oh, I can’t have that,” but instead, you’ll say, “I can have that, but I don’t want to.”

    Second post
@stevetoontaxi – apparently purple potatoes are better for us, lots more nutrients than their white fleshed kin…. as well as looking more interesting 😉

    Day 10, Emden Germany, FD

Congratulations @fatrabbit and @steve toon taxi driver

@at what a great friend you are

    Day10 UK NFD

    Day 10 – Cumbria UK – FD

OH and I were going out for brunch this morning but our favourite local cafe was full when we got there and returning 1/2hr later after a wander round, there was a queue outside so we decided it was not meant to be and went back home instead………..so today turned out into a FD instead 😇

Had a great Pilates class this afternoon then a very strong evening Yoga class – feeling empowered!

    Thank you for your kind comments @ciren2 @sirisan @califdreamer @matron65 @awilson @coda @hannahwatto @songbirdme @onahealthyhigh @debster251 @Strawberriesandcream @
BelfastSink @metatauta @snowflake56 but I only did what good friends will do for each other, if they are in a position to do so; and as I have no work commitments and my OH is very understanding it was an easy decision to make both for my friend and for me 👩‍❤️‍👩 This friend and I have known each other for over 25 years and we have been through a lot together! Despite moving up here in 2013 we manage to talk regularly and visit 2/3 times a year.

    @fatrabbit – 80 lbs in the last 8 months – amazing progress 💃
@steve-toon-taxi-driver – 2.5 stone off since mid March – great job!
@sirisan – your words echoed so much with how I think and feel 🤗
    @califdreamer – I’m a Vegemite girl myself having grown up in Australia – Marmite just won’t do…….
@dykask – precious father and daughter bonding times and even better with a yummy ice-cream at the end of it 🍨
@grins – Welcome to our challenge – great support and understanding even though we are a big group
    @lindasue – I’m with you today…….
    “Maintenance mode.
Fasting, very hungry and it feels great. Water and tea only and a glass of my homemade raspberry kefir instead of your salad. Could I eat, well yes. Will I, well no”

To those who had a blow out over the weekend – it happens to us all………..the trick is to firmly press a reset button with a good FD and move on – remember that a bad day or two does not a bad week make!

“Don’t think about what can happen in a month. Don’t think about what can happen in a year. Just focus on the 24hrs in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.”

    Day 11 – Mornington Peninsula Vic Australia – FD (B2B Mon/Tue)

Feeling amazing after my first day on this WOL. Lost 1.1 kg (I think that is 2.3 pounds) so I am very excited to see the scales shift downwards for a change. Decided to do B2B as I have a few things on later in the week that will make a FD a bit more challenging then. Mind you though, I had a my quilting guild’s monthly meeting yesterday and a CWA meeting in the evening and still managed to stay within 500 kcal.
So inspiring to catch up on everyone’s posts overnight, it makes my resolve even stronger.
    Onwards and downwards!

    Day 11/16:8 CD/Melbourne Australia

Very happy with yesterday’s CD. Ate 820 calories. I’m often amazed at the amount of food you can eat for so few calories. Enjoyed Asian steamed dumplings for lunch and salmon with loads of stir fried veg for dinner. All yum and satisfying. The best part, it was almost a FD and no effort at all despite caring for active pre-schoolers. Will see how today goes. Still under goal weight (BMI 22.9) but would like to eliminate a few kilos to be under my happy weight. I like having a few kilos in reserve for unexpected events, celebrations or holidays.

One day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Onwards and downwards.

    Day 11 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 81.8kg

Up fast, down fast … from 84.6kg to 81.8kg in one day. Mostly water and mostly due to the changes in heat. Hopefully some of the fat cells are only holding water now too!

All the support is really nice! Thank you.

I’m working at eating slower. As a man I have learned how to wolf my food down. I need to keep it slow and just enjoy the food more. It seems to always take me about 1/2 hour before I feel comfortably full. Eating slower should help me feel full on less food. It isn’t so much that I feel the need to eat less to lose faster, I just want to get to a point were I could maintain my weight will a lot less fasting. While I really see a lot of benefits in fasting, the social aspect of it wears on me a bit.

I hope everyone is holding tight and finishing up a great fast!

Hello co down ni fd (ish) once again it was day 10 when I started catching up on posts!
Busy in work so didn’t get my usual catch up earlier on.
    Don’t think I welcomed @chickensrock and @grins – never too late.
@iaminthefuturenow I wish you a safe and enjoyable trip. Maybe drop in from time to time.

I fasted all day in work, had one coffee, water and a green juice but then in the evening I seem to loose it and resort to snacking and picking at bits and pieces, not keeping track this weather. Scales were up and down but now have been up a few days – sigh. @@fatrabbit go you!
Sleep is overdue nite all from me x

@coda – I agree about weight and weather. When it is hot I really drink a lot and I think that causes even bigger swings in my weight. Sometimes I’m in an air conditioned room and sometimes I’m not. However I know my body needs the water since I don’t actually have to use the bathroom nearly as much as in the winter.

    Day 11 | Australia | NFD

Looking forward to eating fruit today I really miss it on a FD. Drinking two large glasses of water on waking as inspired by someone here who drinks 1L on waking.

    Day 11 NFD
Well this WOL certainly IS a journey, with all it’s ups and downs and obstacles in the road!
@bigviking. Hey buddy I hear you I hear you BUT – don’t give up!!
I have been enjoying the view from the plateau since FEBRUARY !!!!!!
I got down to my lowest in years in early Feb I think ( so long ago now!) but have gradually gone up to being constantly 1.5 – 2 kgs above that weight since, despite doing 5:2 reasonably ( or so I thought) successfully.
I have NOT met a month’s challenge target since Feb.
I do FDs and mostly controlled NFDs.
BUT I realise that I have been doing a lot more office work and not moving or exercising much in the past few months so am changing that.
It has been quite disheartening to go out for meals or for social occasions and eat far less than others and certainly less than I would have eaten 6 months ago and STILL not make a difference on the scales.
So I sit ( now walk around!!) on the plateau and read others’ successes and think ‘ that will be me in time’.
It has certainly taken a LOT longer than I fondly imagined when I began this WOL so enthusiastically last November.😫😢
BUT the other health benefits keep me going plus the fact that I am now determined that the scales will show a lower number at some point!!!
The plateau has also meant that I have had to tweak different ways of eating, different foods etc to try to work out why the resistance to weight loss.
I’ve changed it up, I’ve changed it down, eaten less carbs, more protein, no breakfast, some breakfast, 16:8 etc etc. You name it – I’ve tried it. But there is obviously ( or not so obviously) a reason for the plateau. There always is! So BIgViking I say – hang in there and join we plateau people.
@bert said it really well in her post a few days ago.
@fatrabbit aka slimbunny I would think now and @stevetoontaxidriver – congratulations on your success. very well done😇
@at, what a lovely thing to do for your friend. Went to a memorial service for a friend on the weekend and many of us said how it was interesting that we took the time to come together for friends when they were dead either at the funeral or memorial but so often neglected to make the effort when they were alive!
@okeydokey have you tried aloe vera for your burnt feet. I find it works a treat. I use the gel.
@strawberriesandcream I lived in the UK for a couple of years and couldn’t stand marmite but I love Vegemite ! It is nice on toast in the morning, in casseroles. I sometimes have a teaspoon in boiling water on a FD.
Apologies for long post but have been AWOL a bit. It has taken over an hour to catch up.
My darling mum has dementia and lots of issues regarding the facility where she is staying and her care.
Just off to have a cuppa with her now .
Have a good day all and stay the journey.
As one of our ads here used to say ‘ It won’t happen overnight – but it WILL happen.’

    Day 9- NFD – Montreal
    Day 10- FD
    Day 11- NFD

    Day 11, India, NFD

    What is pocket list?

    Day 11 UK NFD

169.4 lbs. Stayed under 170 🙂 Good fast day yesterday. Love that empty feeling! Got lots done too. BMI 25.4. I am getting so close but am getting rather impatient, and am afraid of hitting another plateau and not quite getting to the healthy range. I don’t mind practicing maintenance but want to do it at a healthy weight at least. Just another 2.5 lbs and I’ll be there…Thanks so much for all your support. It felt really good fasting on a Monday knowing so many of you were also. Together we are stronger!

    Day 11 UK NFD 🌈

Found myself hungry yesterday with nothing to eat and no chance of getting something for a few hours, luckily I had shoved a healthy nut bar in my bag for such occasions, squashed at the bottom of my bag, looking very unappetising, however no choice, so I ate it throughly enjoyed it and found that squashed my hunger.

Made me think how much of what I eat is not through hunger just through want. And that I can be satisfied with a healthy choice rather than an unhealthy want, because once th hunger goes the craving can be controlled.

keep on keeping on, another busy day, nut bar replaced in the bottom of my bag. 😄

    second post.
Forget to say yesterday ( Day 10) was a very good and controlled FD under 500 calories.
@bigviking, since thinking about you and the plateau has oddly enough made me REALLY determined today to eat well and find those damn scales with lower numbers for you and me both!!✌️
I ate half the amount of chicken and veg I was going to eat for lunch, passed on the chocolate altogether and said NO to a flat white coffee ( which has far more calories than I would like because of the milk).
Went shopping and trying to go ‘Plastic Free’ is SUCH a challenge. 😇😰

    Day 11 NFD North Wales

Good fast day yesterday. Going home to my dear husband today. He has had to put up with my monthly travels for two years now. It will be nice to catch up on some sleep 😴

Going to stop off on the way to see my sister whom I have not seen since before Christmas. We are going to meet in a garden centre for lunch. I will be driving for about 5 – 6 hours. I have got a good audio book to listen too. I won’t be able to drink to much on the journey or else I will be forever stopping. 😂 Looking forward to reading your posts when I get home.

Good luck to all of you today x

    Day 11 – Cumbria UK – NFD

    Happy maintenance = Wt: 54.0kg/119lbs – BMI: 20.1

Like @fatrabbit I had a good FD yesterday (under 300cal) – did go to bed feeling slightly hungry but woke up feeling revitalised and ready to go out for my regular Tuesday morning walk with friends – planning on breaking my fast sometime after my walk!

@lilymartin – you are so right in that we have to make the effort to make the most of our friendships whilst we can as we never know what the future holds for us

Whether you are maintaining, on a plateau or getting rid of some weight – Stay strong and positive!
Always remember the great thing about 5:2 is that it offers the flexibility to fit around our social lives and the benefits of fasting on our health cannot be underestimated! I still follow 5:2 now in my 8th month of maintenance and I choose my FDs to fit around my life not the other way round!

“I cannot change yesterday, but I can change today!”

Day 11 UK NFD Hmmmm not as good as I wanted to be yesterday as you say @lynzm I know it’s not a real hunger , I know I should be able to stay strong and have a glass of water ….ah well press the reset button again !

    U.K. NFD
So I haven’t written on here since starting July.
It’s been difficult weight loss 1/2 a pound a week if I’m lucky after initial big loss.
Any one got any ideas ? I’m doing B2B Monday Tuesday then another fast day Thursday.

I really want to lose half a stone this month before my holiday and I enjoy the diet as fits within my life.

    Good luck all

    @slogan15

It sounds like it is working for you – but not meeting your want of a quicker weigh loss. And you actually enjoy the diet so I’d just stick with what you are doing.

Maybe that “whoosh” will happen for you some time soon…

    Day 11, UK, CD
Still positive, had a great workout at the gym (weights class) yesterday and woke refreshed and full of energy

Really feeling a lot better in my clothes, can’t wait to see how I feel in 3 weeks time….

    Day 11 – Woking, UK – NFD
    247.9lbs
A good fast day yesterday at 563 cals and drank 3L water. I knew the weekend water weight was coming off as I made lots of bathroom trips.
So, back down to my new lower level. Hoping to get another 4lbs off this month as that would mean hitting the milestone of being down 1st (or 14lbs) since starting on 22nd May. That would be a great outcome as I started with the target of losing 7st in total.

    Day 11, Newcastle UK, NFD

I bounced out of bed at 6.30am because the sun was shining brightly!!! And according to the weather forecast, the outlook in the north east seems to have changed and apparently we will have 3 straight dry days with sunny periods. It has clouded over now, but it’s warm and that makes such a difference 🙂

Yesterday was a good day foodwise. It was an FD – just – scraped in around 800 cals. The absolutely fantastic and miraculous result is that 3lb have disappeared since yesterday. 135.5lbs this morning. Whilst up from the beginning of July – is still a whole lot better than I deserve. Yes @dykask – it really does appear that fast on, fast off is not a myth.

Now, whilst today was meant to be 2nd day of a back to back fast, a good friend managed to get tickets to see Sarah Millican this evening (stand up comedian for those who haven’t heard of her). So it’s now a NFD as beer will be consumed before and during followed by some food. And as @at says, that’s the beauty of this WOL. It’s flexible and allows us to enjoy a social life. I shall fast tomorrow and maybe Thursday too.

@lynzm – you and I should hang our little Roman dresses somewhere prominent as a constant motivator. Did it arrive yet?
I can empathise with you @debster251 over your worry re your son’s house purchase. However, I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason and usually things turn out for the best.
    Great progress @missybear 🙂 Welcome @grins and well done @sabina – glad you’re happy.
@califdreamer – Apparently Vegemite is widely available in the UK. After @lilymartin‘s comments on Marmite vs Vegemite – I need to do my own comparison. @metatauta – thanks – I need to get organised and start baking. I will report back on results.
@mogaman – I’m with you on appreciating food more on this WOL. Even on NFDs I am generally eating just once a day – because I’m simply not hungry until around 5pm (mostly!).
    @keetseel – best wishes for Thursday x

Don’t know who this quote is by but I like it: “I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy. I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it!”

Have a great day all – together we are stronger.

    Day 11 Belfast NFD

Had a great fast day yesterday. I didn’t eat all day until I had a piece of fish and some veggies at 6pm. Went for my usual swimming class and then bed.. woke up this morning and the scales said ……‼️🎉🎉🤗🤗10 stone 13.75lbs – that elusive 10 stone anything! However, I drank a cup of tea and out of interest got on the scales only to see I was back up to 11 stone 0.25.😢. As a realist, I know that my weight will go up after a fast day, but it’s so heartening to see that magic number. I can remember the day clearly, over 27 years ago, when my weight crept over 11 stone. What a pity I didn’t do something about it then! Great motivation, especially when I’m packing the caravan for a few days away.

@anna6. Sorry to hear about your daughter’s glitch. It’s so hard to sit and watch when things don’t go right for your children.
Great news @ BelfastSink about your mum’s asthma.
@keetseel best wishes to your ‘sweetie’ for the surgery. What a lovely name! As a child I remember bushes being smothered by butterflies – speckled wood, peacock, red admiral in abundance. Although I now live further north west, if we see two dozen a year, we’re doing well. It’s so sad. Gratitude is a wonderful thing. I have started a gratitude journal. ( was it AT’s suggestion?) I write a few lines, quotes, whatever takes my fancy, and when I’ve a few moments, decorate the page. Very therapeutic too!
@chickensrock you’re a quilter? I’d love to hear about your work. I enjoy doing creative textiles, and have signed up for a class starting in September. I don’t think I have the discipline for quilting.
@ducks-_d I’m with you on the water. I take a glass of water to bed, and finish it before I even get up. I’ve doubled my water intake over the last week or so on recommendation from one of these lovely bods. It works!
@lilymartin – sorry to hear about your mum. It’s so hard to care well for our elderly parents.
@bigviking, Lilymartin, Bert and all you folks on that plateau – I’ve slithered a little further down the mountain! Hold tight and I’ll pull you down!
@ Rainbowsmile thinking of you on your difficult days.

What a great place this is among such a kind and caring community. Have a wonderful day everyone.

    Day 11
    NFD Cornwall
Don’t know what’s happen this month I started the month at 91.8kg I went up to 92.8 but after fast yesterday I’m back on track at 91.8 lets hoping the only way is down for the rest of this month.

And count me out on the Marmite… ugh!

    Day 11 – UK – NFD

    Day10 UK NFD

Yesterday was a good FD, came in just over 500 cals. Apple for lunch then fresh tuna steak and salad for tea followed by some fresh fruit later. I always allow 75 cals for milk as I can’t give up tea and coffee but I find I’m using less and less especially in coffee. @slogan15, don’t give up -its working for you and fits with your lifestyle. I’ve been logging calories on mfp since March and it’s really helpful, I find it helps me stay focussed on NFDs. Drink lots of water it helps enormously despite the regular loo breaks.

Working from home today so better crack on. Have a good day everyone.

Day 11, London, UK, FD (2nd of B2B2B)

@at I had a similar experience when I went to collect holiday money……………….I did mention I’m off on holiday on Thursday didn’t I??. Paid for 15mins parking, got delayed by numpties who wanted vast amounts of US dollars in every denomination known to man and coins too (who does that!!??), collected my (pre-booked) cash then crossed the road to a fabulous Danish bakery, got my ticket only to be delayed by another numpty ahead of me who couldn’t decide whether the cinnamon social or the raspberry slice was for her (I was screaming in my head….. just have both!!!), then………………………… It dawned on me, that this was a FD and I wasn’t hungry, and I would feel guilty, and my patience was running out anyway as well as my parking, soooooo………………….. I threw away my ticket, hustled back to the car and vigorously polished my halo!!!!!!

Looking forward to ending today with a lovely chicken salad, I hope the weather co-operates……… It’s turned a bit chilly this morning!!

@liathanail, congrats…… you’ve gotta love that water!!!!! Flush away!!!

I heard an interesting segment on the radio this morning and I’m fascinated to know whether it’s true or not, lots of Americans called in to confirm it as true….. but I simply can’t believe it!!!!!…….. In the USA, ‘egg cups’ are as rare as hens teeth, they’re simply not used similarly, neither are kettles!!! Am I being punked? How do you manage the dippy soldiers WITHOUT and egg cup? Do you just chase it around the plate? I can only imagine someone will respond with an answer, hopefully NOT…..”What is this ‘egg cup’ object you speak of??”

Keep the faith people, we really have got this!!!!

    Day 11 Newcastle UK NFD.
Excellent fasting day yesterday but one of the strangest days of my life so far. Had some routine bloods taken at my doctor’s at 5 p.m. last night 10 p.m. get a phone call from a doctor at the hospital saying my potassium levels are at 6.9 and extremely dangerous did I have any chest pains nausea palpitations amongst other things no to all these questions was my answer. He then informs me there’s an ambulance on the way for you to come to hospital as I need checks done on my blood immediately after 2 hours in hospital and various tests and bloods taken I’m told my potassium levels are normal and that there must have been some contamination with the first bloods taken to say I was relieved was an understatement. My poor wife who loves to worry is still in shock I think. On the upside I think the shock may have shifted another half pound lol🤣 have a great normal normal day everybody.

@coda Thank you for hosting the challenge…
Please add me to the July challenge.
    Day 11 Mumbai, India FD
    A couple of questions…
    – What excatly is a CD?
    – What is the pocket list?

    Thanks a ton…

    2nd post
@jisika welcome to the July challenge. A CD is a Controlled Day, so not a full fast day but not an unrestricted non fasting day either. Some people like to do what they call controlled days to ensure they don’t overeat on their non fast days and ensure the weight keeps dropping.

The pocket list is a list of those people who are on a fast day – you can go and look at it when you are feeling like you need some support and see that there are other people here on a fast day with you. It’s like a virtual support group. You’ll see it get updated each day as people add themselves to it.

    Day 11 UK. NFD

Hi not able to post much as have been very busy here dealing with my sister and her illness. Heading home today and probably fast tomorrow . Lots of posts to catch up on.

    Day 11 – UK – NFD

@stevetoontaxidriver – pleased to hear you’re ok – very dramatic!!!

    @debster251 – well done for hitting the 10s – I remember that feeling 🎉

    Day 12 London UK, Nfd

@flourbaby I used to live in the States and the kettle thing is totally true – no one drinks tea in the house basically and if they do they boil a pan of water! At least that’s what I got told when I went shopping to Bed Bath and Beyond when I got there. That was 10 years ago now mind. Not sure about the egg cups, think we might have brought our own!

FD yesterday was fine, managed to keep busy until the evening. Woke up around 3 to fed twin 1 and wasn’t even hungry. Lost 2.5lb since last week, so happy so far.

@Stevetoontaxidriver wow that’s a bit of a scary place to be! Bet your blood pressure went up a bit. Glad you’re ok.

    @lmrenfrey
Those purple potatoes tasted lovely they were little on the small side but I read they are great as jacket potatoes. I’ll lift some more in two weeks time and see how big they’ve grown. Everything purple is good for you apparently. It’s the look on the grandchildren’s faces when you put a purple potato down in front of them. priceless 😁

    Day 11, Northumberland UK, FD

Regular fast day today. Going okay so far, but feeling very sleep deprived so might allow intake to creep up nearer 1000 calories today. Will see how long I hold out before breaking fast, and just how hungry that makes me.

I discovered that Aldi and sainsbury’s (and possibly other favourite supermarkets) sell dark chocolate that actually comes as 5 individually wrapped bars in a box around the size of a large bar. 130 calories per small bar for the Aldi sea salt variety and it’s just enough to satisfy the need for a chocolate treat, but doesn’t make me feel ill like the milk choclate which I don’t really enjoy anymore, but can’t seem not to eat a full bar off once it’s started.

    Day 11- Scotland – ???
Weight is still up over a kilo after a FD – thanks to my 3 day binge. When will I learn? This evening we have a little friend and his mum over for dinner, I’m making roast chicken (not a light version! It has to be massaged with oil of oil, rosemary, sage e sea salt!), peas and potatoes so I’m still undecided on whether to have another fast day or not. I feel hungry-ish, so I may have a cup of miso soup for lunch and see how it goes. Tomorrow I’m off to Glasgow with my husband to meet some friends who live in USA, the nertherlands and Norway, who I have not seen for years (they are all here for attending a conference). Morning coffee and lunch in a restaurant booked. Fast day again on Thursday.

Yes, been reading the latest James Wong book. Next time I’m asked for my input on seeds etc for the allotment by my husband I think we’ll be getting more reds and purples.

Day 11, Hampshire, UK – NFD

Thinking happy thoughts, the scales wont shift yet but reading everyone’s lovely comments really cheered me up. Thank you @liathanail and @liathanail for the supportive words, they do really help.

@keetseel your comment really made me chuckle, I’m all for outrunning the zombies!!! as long as I get a piece of cake on the other side 😀

I only have one more fasting day this week as I take my hubby away for his 30th on Thursday and so cant really fast Friday, it will be my first 5:2 week as I have always done 4:3. We are going to Torquay, St Ives and then Dartmoor, one night in each, really praying that the sun comes out for us!!!

    Happy Tuesday every one 🙂

    second post

@slogan15 – I’m going through the same thing, I lost a good amount in the first 5 weeks but its either no loss now or 1/2 a pound down one week and up the next. I think my body got used to the routine and is not longer being tricked, I am tempted to change my fasting days, have you tried that?

@ Steve toon taxi driver keep well and happy….

Day 11 Sunshine Coast Qld Australia: NFD. 16:8. Had lunch out with OH and then went for a walk (slow stroll really). Had a long chat with a friend whose mother is dying. I encouraged her to get her mum into palliative care and this has now happened. She’s trying to give her mum a compassionate peaceful death. So hard to say goodbye. She sees her mum as her best friend. I’m feeling sad for her. Child minding in the morning so staying over at my daughter’s tonight.
Some great results happening on the forum. It’s very encouraging. I had a great craving for an ice cream but no shop easy to get to on my way to my daughters and I had to be here in a certain timeframe. So was saved from indulging. I’m very happy about that. Cheerio 🤗
