  • I saw this article which I found interesting on how negative thinking, from complaining, to self criticism can cause your brain neurons to fuse together to create a groove which can cause the pattern to repeat.

Day 8 a sunny Belfast NFD
My weekly weigh in shows the same weight as last week. At least it’s not up!
@bigviking as others have said, don’t be too hard on yourself. keep it ticking it over until you’re ready to start afresh.
@lola907 it sounds like you’ve adopted the same strategies as I have done over the years. My OH is a kind and caring man, who in many respects is an ideal husband, he cooks, cleans, and we share the same interests. You’re right about the loneliness though. Our kids leaving the nest and my retirement has altered the status quo. Somehow our problems seem more important now I don’t have the distraction of work, and I am trying to work hard at sorting out my mindset. Not sure where that will take me. Good luck.
@coda thank you for the links. Envy you watching the rugby. It’s times like this I wish I had Sky!
Despite not losing this week I have had a positive week. Having a controlled day today.
    Have a good Saturday everyone.

    Day 8 Australia NFD

After 4 alternating fast days (first time ever) last week I’m up 0.5kg so @bigviking and @saffy420 I’m also feeling somewhat despondant, but let’s give it bit more time to work. I think @coda has some good advice, keep on keeping on we are worth it.

    Day 8 – Woking, UK – NFD
    247.7lbs
New low seems to be sticking. That means I’ve now lost just over 10lbs since starting on 22nd May.

Have my partners mum visiting this weekend so I’ll catch up on posts later.

    Have a positive day everyone!

    Day 8, Wales UK, NFD

@bigviking this wonderful community of caring people want you to succeed so please stay with the challenge.

Hello I would like each of us to spend a few moments on thinking and posting 3 of your best things for last week and it can be anything.
Everyday may not be good but there is something good in everyday x

    Day 8 UK FD ๐ŸŒˆ (4 AFD)

So had a good day yesterday, did not over indulge in food, not the same can be said for drinks, but it’s not often and I enjoyed it.

The scale is responding well, slowlly and surely, I too have to see it on the scales up and down until it finally sticks.

@bigviking, you were having such success at the start I remember – now you are not having such success would it be because you are reducing your calories every day, if u do that u negate the Fasting affect as your body is getting used to the new low. just a thought. Yes Fast zero cals if u can on FDS but eat more on NFDs healthy choices better but not always less calories. just a thought! ๐Ÿ‘Š๐ŸปKeep on keeping on.

@strawberriesandcream, thanks or the link to the dress website, I was on there all of 2 mins before I found a dress I could not live without. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ

Back to FD today. ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ‰ will see me through.

    Day 8, London, UK, NFD

Good CD yesterday, large dinner salad was too much for me so I had to leave about 1/3, Stomach shrinking I think, or maybe the brain re-training is working!!!

@onahealthyhigh, Happy Birthday, I hope you had a fab day!!!

@bigviking, that could be last weeksโ€™ wine finally showing up to the party, this weeksโ€™ efforts will probably show next week or even 10days away, donโ€™t cancel out the good work, the maths works (yes, my US friends, there is an โ€˜sโ€™ on the end!!!!) be patient and youโ€™ll see the resultsโ€ฆ. Honestly, keep the faith and maybe donโ€™t push for so many 0cal daysโ€ฆ.. I find myself feeling deprived after too many liquid only FDs, just a thought!!!! Also, it might help to re-read your posts from the beginning of your journey, youโ€™ll see how far youโ€™ve come, as @at quoted in Juneโ€ฆโ€ฆ. โ€œIf I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am nowโ€

Busy day today, so it should be relatively controlled lunch out with friendsโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ. Should be!!!!! However, there WILL be wine, pocket-winos, holding tight!!!!!

Onward & downward people!!!!! Stick with it!!!!

    2nd post ๐ŸŒˆin reply to @coda request.

    3 things about last week

    1. Got compliments on losing weight even though I haven’t, trousers do fit better so I’m guessing the exercise I do is redistributing my weight into the correct places. More muscle less fat. ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป

    2. Summers here in the U.K., ๐ŸŒžheat makes me drink more ๐Ÿ’ฆ water, good for dragon ๐Ÿ‰drowning, also out more and more active.๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

    3. Easy to not eat chocolate ๐Ÿซ as do not like melting chocolate. However ice creams are a different story. New challenge!

South coast, uk. Day 8 NFD
@onahealthyhigh – happy birthday, hope you had a wonderful time.
@bigviking – be kind to yourself, it’s frustrating sometimes not seeing the numbers we desire. I am up a lb this week after being a total saint, maybe it will show next week – here’s hoping!
@ciren2 – congratz to your daughter, proud moment for you, hope you all enjoyed.
@m33 – another please be kind to yourself comment. I had to use citalopram a few years back and the weight was a nightmare but at the time i needed those meds. Gp suggested it again recently to control flushes however I’d rather be hot right now but i feel your frustration. Keep on tho if you can as there are health benefits to this wol.
I need to get on with housework, washing, etc as had busy work week and still have notes to update for monday. Have a good few days all and keep on keeping on. @coda and @strawberriesandcream, inspirational and supportive, thank you

    2nd post
Reply to Coda’s 3 best things last week request:

    1. Enjoyed hot weather which made drinking water easy/essential.
    2. Went on a fabulous long walk on the Pembrokeshire coastal path.
    3. Discovered this website, joined the July challenge and learnt so much this week!

    Day 8…..Florida…..NFD

Good Morning Folks……. it’s me, sitting on the edge of plateau mountain! I’ve been sitting here trying to climb down since March. Yep, you read that right 4 long months. Still trying to figure out how to break the 130’s out of it imprisionment.
I get it…. its frustrating beyond belief. I was there like many of you are…. mad as hell!
So, now ask me…. why are you still here? Why are you still trying?
Well even though I’ve been stuck at the same weight for 4 months, I look damn good! Yep, that’s right I look fit! My cloths are too big, I really got to do something about that! My jiggly parts don’t jiggle as much, my bloated belly gone! I’m happy!

Although the scales tell us a number one we sometimes hate, sometimes we love. It’s not the only thing that gives us an indication that this WOL works. Since the beginning of this WOL, I’ve learned more about who I am, I learnt about my body and who it is.
So, before you jump off, please think about the person you were versus the person you are today. What other indicators can use to determine the value of this way of life.
Think about your previous attempt at weight loss, compare them to what you have today.
Sometimes one must relive the past to gain strength for ones future!

Well, I’ve got to work today so very quickly, as I thought the pep talk was more important today.
    Weigh in day…. no change
The kid killed me last night…. 45 min walk with 30 min of swimming.
Under 500 calories for me FD
Grumbling belly this morning which I’m ignoring!

At any given moment the urge to sing The lion sleeps tonight is just a whim away, a whim away, a whim away!

    Day 8 UK NFD

Thank you @mia139 @coda @strawberriesandcream @saffy420. The alternative is of course where I’m coming from, which certainly didn’t inspire me. So what if it takes a bit longer than I’d wanted to? I’m pretty certain I didn’t gain it in a linear fashion, so not sure why I’m hoping it will drop off that way.

But I may just throttle it back a little. And make sure I get some wine on the w/e ๐Ÿท

    Day 8 2nd post.

    @coda 3 things I’m happy about.

    1. Gorgeous summer weather here in Cheshire. Means time spent with friends and somehow makes work less stressful.

    2. Hubby bough me a bottle of champagne as he thought I needed a reward for looking svelte. (He does wear glasses and definitely has a different idea of svelte to me).

    3. Fitted into a summer dress that’s been in the wardrobe for at least 2 years.

    Onwards everyone we have this.

Day 8 USA (Illinois) – FD

Saturday will mean just working around the house, so I can manage a FD today. On maintenance, I’m still doing 6:1. Right on 160# this morning, so holding my own.

    My three things:
    1. Ran into 3 other retired teacher friends while out shopping yesterday, and they all had gained quite a bit of weight while I’ve lost!

    2. I finished up some ice cream house guests bought so no longer a temptation in my freezer.

    3. Our backyard pool is clean and cooling.

Guess #4 could be to say how glad I am that Coda hosted my first challenge and that I’ve “met” so many wonderful people here!

    Onward and downward!

Day 8, Mountaintop PA USA, NFD

    @coda 3 things I enjoyed this week

    1. July 4th holiday lots of activity. Participated in our town Independence Day Parade with grandchildren. Colorful Americana. Enjoyed afternoon with family at good friends pool. Cooked an old fashioned barbecue and roasted s’mores to end the day. Sparklers at dusk.

    2. Hiked 3 consecutive days up the mountain trail and back. Had missed several days before holiday. My Fitbit gets a good workout and so do I. LOL

    3. Am enjoying wearing the size 10 US dresses in my collection. All the 12 clothes baggy at the waist and hips. Have lots of new items to sell on eBay.

    3rd post.

    @debster251, @ducks_d, @missybear, @lynzm, @flourbaby, @matron65 Thank You ๐Ÿ˜€

    @bert1802, I hear you.

    Onwards and downwards.

    2nd post
    @coda my three things are:
    1. A draw in the rugby! I would have preferred a straight win for the ABs but a draw with the Lions was a fair result.
    2. Despite the stress and having dinner in a pub which served my absolute favourite buffalo wings, ribs and onion rings I had quinoa and vegetable salad with no dressing.
    3. Every moment with my fantastic family.

Day 8 Massachusetts USA NFD Had to go in another room from those having ice cream last night but feels good to have gotten 2 fast days in this major holiday week! Wedding shower today- will still have to show restraint. Enjoy summer, Northern Hemisphere! Start making soup, Southern Hemisphere!

    Still day 8
Thank you @bert for your usual quirky affirmation of this WOL. It never fails to make me smile!
    Great idea Coda
    My three are:

    1. This good weather (maybe not as hot as southern England, but good all the same by NI standards!)
    2. My ever improving health – feeling fit and healthy AND my waist measured 1″ down this morning
    3. This WOL and particularly the wonderful virtual friends I have made

    And a cheeky no 4.
    A draw in the rugby…

    Onwards and downwards everyone.

    Day 8, Gozo, Malta, nfd

Three good things that happened to me last week @coda

Enjoyed a lovely BBQ birthday party of my granddaughter last Sunday. I really enjoyed the food.

Went for a day in Malta on 4 July (my granddaughter birthday date) to a scientific exhibition and we had a lovely lunch.

Fasted on Thursday and today I’m one kilo less than last Monday.

Have a great Saturday everyone. Onwards and downwards

    Day 8 – USA – NFD

Had success this month with my experiment of ADF instead of spreading my FDs out. Seems like it’s easier to get right back on track with a FD immediately after a NFD. Yeah, right! Talk to me next week when I’m whining about it, lol. Decided to take a sneak peek at weight after my first FD (Wed) and burned 1.8 lbs.; however, after the second FD (Fri), up 1 lb! Final weight this week: 175.6, down .08. I’ll take it. That 1 lb. will show up eventually as a burn, I’m sure. Three things I’m thankful for:
    1. Time spent with dear friends on the 4th, eating, plinking, talking.
    2. My ornamental and veggie gardens are taking off and anticipating blooms soon!
    3. My sense of assurance and peace as a result of God’s love for me! (Not prohibited speech on this forum, right?)

    Day 8–ABQ–NF/CD

Last week was a tough one, but we did go to visit my smart, loving, talented daughter in Los Angeles over the weekend. Every day I’m more and more grateful for having her in my life.(1) And I’ve been reading *whole books* again which is, I suppose, one step closer to writing again, and have found some gems that I can pass along to other readers (2). And of course, my life is stable and relatively peaceful, I have shelter, food, a semblance of personal freedom and dignity (3) –things that some people even here in my own city don’t have right now.

Well, I’d better stop before I start fretting about the human condition. Oops.

    Affection and strength to all!

    Day 8: Gloucestershire, UK. NFD

    Day 8,India, NFD

Day 8 NFD St. Louis USA

    1) weather has cooled off and has been beautiful for past several days
    2) Love looking out my kitchen window at rain gardens and watching the birds at the feeder her and bird baths/water saucers
    3) enjoyed dinner with my granddaughter on Thursday evening and my daughter last evening.

What a lovely idea! Sharing happy thoughts and gratitude. I often think how much better our world would be if we were able to model how we support one another on this site with people all over the world. Seems so simple but apparently not easy to do. I am grateful for all of you every day.

    Day 8 California USA NFD

I’m up 1.6 pounds, .7 kg this morning. But my lower weight the day before was right after a fast, so I guess not so bad. I weigh exactly what I did a week ago, but the trend is down overall, so I need to just stay the course. I see that several others are experiencing the same. Three things I’m thankful for this week:

    1. That I discovered the 5:2 WOL and that it might be slow, but it works for me and is easy enough to be sustainable.

    2. That the house is air conditioned and I can stay indoors during this heatwave – 42 C or 108 F yesterday and not much cooler predicted for today.

    3. That I’ve discovered this forum and met so many nice people here who truly inspire me.

And an extra one: That Amazon.com carries lots of unusual things (unusual for me, at least) and I will finally solve the mystery of what Vegemite actually is. A couple jars should arrive tomorrow with Prime shipping. Is it “axel grease” like thinatlast says, or a delicious savory treat like LJoyce describes? The mystery will finally be solved!

    2nd post

    3 good things this week:

All the wonderful fruit in the garden, raspberries, gooseberries, pink, black and red currants, jostaberries, tayberries and wild cherries. Yum. I am fortunate to be able to live and work in this environment.

The wonderful cherries, avocados and pears brought by the veg man. The bounty he has brought to us this year that would otherwise have been discarded by the supermarkets has saved the charity a substantial amount of money and enriched the animals lives with a wonderful variety of veg that we couldn’t have afforded to buy for them, not to mention the meals we two foots have had from the sorts not suitable for the critters. I have had great fun cooking with it. Again Yum.

The fantastic new runs built by our trustee and her husband for all the double hutches that should mean we can get another ten years of use out of them instead of needing to replace them. I am so grateful for their and the other trustee’s time spent building and putting them together to keep our critters safe and happy.

Day 8, Missouri Ozarks, USA, NFD

    Still maintaining under 145.

    What a wonderful idea:

I am grateful, very grateful to love and be loved by many.

I am grateful that I have a God to pray to, grateful to have a friend at midnight.

Grateful for the beauty of nature that surrounds me daily.

And, as a bonus, grateful to call each of you “friend”.

Doing some housework today, going out to dinner and then to a business meeting at church.

    My best to you all.

Day 8 – SW WA USA – NFD

Great idea to look at good things Coda:

    – Able to wear smaller clothing to work out in at the gym

    – enjoying a trilogy by a new author

    – grateful for a faithful God; people sometimes let us down but He’s trustworthy

And yes, a bonus, all of you wonderful people on this forum

    Day 8 NFD North Wales
Second post today, now with my youngest daughter.
    Best three things this week

    1. My eldest granddaughter putting her arms around my neck and telling me she loves me and I am her best friend.

    2. Her asking me to hold her hand as she falls to sleep (she is only 2)

    3. My youngest granddaughter aged 11 months taking her first few steps around the furniture.

As you can see I am Grandchildren obsessed. I wish I lived closer to them so could see them more than once a month. I want this life plan to be successful so I can live a long time to see them grow into beautiful young women.

Really enjoyed reading today’s posts. Very motivating @coda

    Day 9/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I had a truly wonderful day.

    Three things:
    1. Spending time with my sons and their families on opposite sides of this vast continent.
    2. The glorious winter sun and good health resulting from this WOL allowing for long leisurely walks with my DH.
    3. Enjoying good food and ๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿทwith friends and family.

    @at hope all is well.

@califdreamer I love vegemite on toast with lashings of butter. I admire your optimism- 2 jars! My advice would be to spread thinly. A favourite here is pairing it with cheese in a sandwich or on crackers. A teaspoon of vegemite added to casseroles gives a lovely rich umami taste. But please use sparingly and enjoy!

Wishing you all health and happiness. I wish I had time to answer you all.

Day 8, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

    Day 8 – France – NFD

Oh gosh, I find your three things very touching, some brought a wee tear to my eyes.

    For me:
    – Definitely feel a lot healthier, physically and mentally. No more giddiness and my back has been pain-free for over a week now
    – Ate first tomato from the garden. Everything else thriving, have never had such a successful plot
    – Crossed off a lot of unpleasant things on work list. Had a long and positive discussion with director who was having some negative thoughts re certain colleagues. Positivity won!

@lopear thank for the ACV tip for reflux. I’m a great believer, it has prevented me from having a hip replacement (along with turmeric). Didn’t know about reflux tho’
@tlc2 will now raise my glass to you and all other pocket winos

    Bisous

@coda – what a wonderful idea of yours

    My 3 positives:

    1. Both 500 cal FD’s were successful
    2. Latest Piyo (round 52) is absolutely amazing – did it on a fast day and still put usual amount of effort in; wonderful to know I can exercise hard on a FD
    3. Stuck to less than TDEE every non fasting day for a full week

The 3rd point of reflection is really powerful for me. I’m a week in, not hungry and really enjoying the healthy, nutritious food I’m eating ๐Ÿ™‚

    Second post, three things….

    1. The late evening snack dragon has been drowned this week ๐Ÿ‰
    2. I’ve included more sweet treats this week, but maintained okay
    3. Who knew I could really enjoy a good green salad…..

@bert1802 You have arrived! You are at your magic place. Enjoy and maintain. I love the loose clothes result and when you’re ready some shopping in a smaller size. Congratulations!

    Day 8, Guildford UK, CFD
Day 9, Guildford UK, Free Food Day

Day 9 Australia NFD and going strong with my diet. Loving this new determination and working to make sure it lasts.

    Day 9 Thailand NFD

    Lovely idea, @coda

Weight dropping off me this week as have a bad cough which makes all food taste revolting. So I have effectively been doing B2Bs since Tuesday. Not been able to keep up with my exercise plans, however, which makes me sad.

    3 positive things!

Family: by this evening two children and husband will have arrived from various places and though I doubt I will be eating pad thai and drinking beer, it will be so lovely to reconnect.

Trees: View from bedroom window, the mountain behind the house, everything is so green here (because it rains a lot …).

Ironically, health: bad cough, irritating scratchy throat, dreadful mouth taste but, apart from that, glad to be healthy, getting fitter, healthier weight – so will bite the bullet, get some antibiotics, get better and make the most of the beautiful scenery and food and family.

So many things to be thankful for.

    Day 8, USA: Kansas, NFD

    Day 9 Belfast NFD

    Day 9, Northumberland UK, NFD

Keep on keeping on. Must do better this week on keeping the kitchen closed after aquafit.

    Day 9 NFD ๐ŸŒˆ

Wasn’t very good yesterday, decided I was doing so well this month I would invite self sabotage dragon, nibble dragon, no water dragon, temptation dragon, and lazy dragon round for the day. So my FD definitely didn’t go to plan.
Still everyone needs a day off, that was yesterday, today I’m gonna invite gym ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธdragon slayer, healthy eating ๐Ÿฅ—dragon slayer, water ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿฒdragon slayer and willpower ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿปdragon slayer round.

Happy Sunday my global friends all have a good day! ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ซ
    WE HAVE THE POWERRRRRR – He-man, 80s cartoon. ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Love each reading the three things people are grateful for, positive thinking and seeing the good things in your life is a good thing.

    Day 9 UK NFD

170.2lbs. Down enough that I can now say for certain that I have lost 80 lbs in the last 8 months:)) Yesterday wasn’t a fast day but I didn’t feel well and ate well under TDEE. I gave myself permission to eat but didn’t. I have come a long way!

    Day 10 – France – NFD

@fatrabbit your story is sooooo amazing, I’m truly in awe. The same for so many of the group. You’re all making me feel that this time I really will reach my objective.

Lazy dragon day for me. Sticky and stormy in SW France.

    Bisous

    Day 9 NFD North Wales.
Managed to eat sensibly yesterday, although I did have a few glasses of wine. Weighed myself on my daughters scales and I was down in weight since the beginning of the challenge, but I need to weigh myself on my scales at home to get an accurate figure. That will not be until Wednesday morning. Another challenge ahead today. I am going to a barbecue this evening. Need to be careful with how much I drink or my eating will definitely get out of control. Another hot day today, so will be upping the water ๐Ÿ’ฆ. Good luck to all today.
Can’t believe we are 9 days into this challenge, my first. Like fast days, this challenge will soon be over. Will definitely be joining the next one ๐Ÿ˜€
