  • Day 7, USA: Kansas, NFD

Last night, although I’d eaten nothing in the hours leading up to bed I woke up with terrible acid reflux.. I think it may have been the several cups of tea I had before I went to sleep and have decided to pull back a bit on the caffeine to try and prevent this from happening again. As a result I’m a bit tired today and am glad that it’s not a scheduled FD because I don’t feel like I have the will to stick to it today. Good luck to those who are having a FD today!

Day 7 – SW WA USA – FD

Scale moved downward today, though still in a plateau bubble. Moving more toward KETO, so hoping this will continue the downward movement as I couple it with the IF.

@molij – I believe you have a few minutes after you post, to edit the post

@lilymartin – I appreciate your posting about your plastic free challenge. It is making me more conscious of plastic as well. I do try to use plastic that can be recycled but you’re right that so much is wrapped in plastic. I do have a produce shop close by that has meat and veggies that are not pre-wrapped, so will try to frequent that establishment. One thing that I wonder about, is the balloons that people tend to release for certain celebrations. I’ve heard that birds end up trying to eat the fragments; so not good.

Fasting during the day as I’m saving calories for a potluck gathering this evening.

@mogaman – we’ll get off the plateau yet! We can do this.

    Still Day 7 –

@penz – pretty amazing, going to a ball game and not eating! As I read your story, I thought you were going to give yourself permission to eat something. The way you ended your story took me by surprise! Good for you!

Day 7 McMinnville Oregon USA NFD
My official weigh in day is Friday and I lost 2 lbs (.9 kg) this week. I’m feeling very pleased with myself.

@hannahwatto – I hope your siblings will be a comfort for you!! Cleaning out a loved ones thing is such a difficult process. My thoughts are with you.

@m33 – I hope you will hang in there with us. This is such a supportive group with lots of great advice.

    Day 7 PA USA FD
@hannahwatto Thank you for your kind words. βœ¨βœ¨πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰Congratulations on your 2kgs obliterated 😊 this week!
βœ¨πŸŽ‰Congrats Penz on being firm and enjoying the ballgame! πŸ‘πŸ‘Sounds like lots of fun!βœ¨πŸŽ‰
@sirisan Good to hear more information about the konjac noodles and Trim Healthy Momma. We love the konjac noodles and I shared it with my father who loves and “cooks” with them also. Is the company Trim Healthy Noodles also located in the USA?
@otterlover We are here if you want to read, and let us know how your doing with the family issues. I think we all understand life goes on while we live the 5:2 WOL. It’s good to know you have a support system in our group! You do have a support system here for you. Wishing you well.✨

We got this, ✨I choose to make choices that are bringing me closer to my goal.😊

@penz, is awarded the “5:2 Baseball Hall of Fame Award” for resisting hot dogs, potato chips and all manner of other food temptations throughout an entire sporting event! Bravo, Penz!

    Day 7, Newcastle UK, NFD

We went out for a lovely meal last night with friends so today is a controlled NFD as I was way over TDEE yesterday. Going to Ceroc tonight by myself as OH is too tired. Whilst I could easily not go, I know I need the exercise to help work off yesterday’s excesses.

Sorry to hear about your dog @keetseel – a sad time for you and your family.
@songbirdme & @redrockgirl302 – glad you find Dr. Berg of help. I’m subscribed to his Youtube channel, so get all his new videos via email.
@annemarilyn – we’ll have to make sure that the first of @redrockgirl302‘s suggested conventions is in the UK so that you can visit Roman – such a great find. None of their clothes crease so they are perfect for taking on holiday.
Welcome YoyoD – you sound determined and already achieving great results – good for you.
@anna6 – the knowledge that I need to be able to fit into my clothes in the second week is a great motivator to keep an eye on food intake. Along with good food choices it is possible to cruise and not put on weight whilst not missing out either. I wish you a wonderful holiday when the time comes.
You’re making great progress during a difficult time @hannahwatto – well done you. I hope you find the time with your other siblings to be healing for you all.
@m33 – please don’t feel hopeless. You’re back, you’ve worked out what wasn’t working, know what you need to do, so press the reset button and keep moving forwards. You can do it.
I echo @hannahwatto & @Okeydokeys’ comments @otterlover – please look in for support and pick up 5:2 again when you’re feeling up to it.
@molij – that’s good to hear πŸ™‚ and also that your granddaughter has recovered. Yes you can edit a post for up to 5 minutes after pressing submit.
@fatrabbit – that meal sounded delicious!
@jarbia, @Twinman, @flourbaby and @safarigirl – please send some good weather up here because it has been truly awful for over a week and whilst we have a brief respite this weekend, the rain is returning Monday afternoon. I am so behind in my gardening work and the soil is saturated. We’ve had the central heating on several times day and evening. Sighhhhhhhhh.
Great job on giving the hotdog a miss @penz – your pat on the back is well deserved.
How very painful for you @okeydokey – you’ll never do that again!! Big hugs.

Keep on keeping on – together we can do it!

Day 7, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

@jarbia: I know what you mean. Summer always is the most fun time of the year for me. But then, of course, there are also these lovely evenings in front of the fireplace…lol

@strawberriesandcream: I gladly send you sun and hot wetter from the Wild West. How about we split 38 degrees Celsius. Divine, I would say. πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„
So here is the weekend, I am doing NFD but within my TDEE.

Have a wonderful Friday! Onwards and downwards! 😊🌺😊⚘😊

    Day 7, Emden Germany, NFD

@okeydokey 2ndΒ° burns are painful, take care and stay cool, hugs

Did a B2B Tues/Wednesday, lost 0,6 kg.I’m a little low with my weight now and had to cancel today’s FD. We have a party weekend ahead of us with lots of cake, food, champagne and wine. I’m really looking forward to it.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

    Day 7 NFD North Wales
Managed not to snack today despite being incredibly tired. Ate an egg on toast for breakfast, had Strawberries for lunch and a vegetarian curry this evening. I am going to treat myself to a glass of wine though this evening πŸ₯‚.

    Day 8/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Yesterday’s CD went really well and I stayed well under TDEE. i ate my first meal at 12.30. A salad of goat cheese, avocado, tomato, red onion and olives. Followed at 6:00 by a spicy Shakshuka with two eggs and a sliver of sourdough bread. Yum and truly satisfying. Drank lots of warming cups of tea. It’s cold here in Melbourne. Enjoyed another 61/2km walk in the winter sunshine around a local urban bush park. Had a very close and prolonged encounter with a beautiful large red fox. Mixed feelings because they are feral animals here and cause a lot of damage to our local wildlife.

@hannawatto I do hope your visit isn’t too stressful.

@okeydokey Ouch! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Have had a very restless night and finally gave in and made myself a large mug of coffee. Today I’m celebrating a significant birthday 65! Where have the years gone? Thanks to 5:2 I feel fit and healthy. I’m so grateful.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and rewarding weekend.

    2d post
@okeydokey Yes. I believe trim healthy mama is located in the US. I buy a few things from them when I get the sale emails and can combine the shipping cost. They have a cookbook that has a lot of gluten-free, healthy recipes that seem to fit pretty well with the 5:2 plan. I think there is also an email server that sends out recipes but not sure it’s from them, but somehow affiliated.

2nd post I’ve been updating the spreadsheet via google sheets. Does it automatically update so everyone can read it or do I need to do something else. Help doesn’t help at all!

    @onahealthyhigh. Happy Birthday πŸŽ‰.

    2nd post

Thanks for your advise strawberriesandcream I’ll put it into practice. Happy birthday Onehealthyhigh, many happy remains.

    Good night everyone

    Still day 7 –

    @onahealthyhigh – Happy Birthday! Have a super day! πŸ™‚
About the spreadsheet, you don’t need to do anything extra; just enter your info & we’ll all see it.

@onahealthyhigh — Happy birthday β™«β™ͺβ™« to you! Enjoy your day!

    Day 7 – USA – FD

    Second Post: @onahealthyhigh, happy birthday!!

    Day 8 PA USA NFD
Day 7 Lancaster, PA USA FD
    ✨πŸ₯‚πŸ°Happy Birthday!πŸŽπŸŽˆπŸŽ‰ @onahealthyhigh 🍾πŸ₯‚Time to celebrate!✨Wishing you a great year this year also!
@onahealthyhigh I have seen that the spreadsheet automatically updates and saves.

Down by 3 pounds. Started at 167 and at 164lbs. Happy with my commitment and progress. Trying to walk atleast an hour 5 days a week.

    Day 7 2nd post

I thought my first post had disappeared and wrote another then saw the first so now am editing the 2nd. Yeesh.

Hooray to you folks on a whoosh, hang in there everyone on a plateau/upswing. Together we are stronger.

Day 8 Australia NFD I’m sorry I don’t have time to read the overnight posts. About to travel to my brother’s house to help sort his things and prepare the house for sale. Pray for us please.

    2nd post.
End of July just seems such a long way away. Can I really be bothered doing 0 kcal AFDs and limited wine intake for another 24 days? Or do I move to my planned maintenance (normal 5:2) earlier? My BMI is below 25 now, but I’m not at the weight I thought I wanted to be. Whichever way it is, today’s FD will be a success!

    Me again!
    @onahealthyhigh – very happy birthday πŸ’πŸŽ‚

Day 7, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Maintaining below 145, spent ten hours out with friends today – shopping and eating and laughing. Veggie burger and onion rings at Burger King – no breakfast, will have pizza and salad for dinner tonight. Drank lots of water, getting ready to do a bit of exercise.

Want to try and catch up on the posts, if I can’t respond individually I do wish you all the very best.

Will at Happy Birthday to onehealthyhigh and wish you and your siblings well, Hannah. Maybe there will be a lot of good memories as well.

Also want to say to those facing separations and divorces themselves or within their families – I have worked for divorce attorneys for years and our clients (men and women) who are fragile when the process starts are told that they will be amazed how strong they are a year later.

When GERD strikes, please try swallowing a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar (it burns a bit going down naturally), followed by a few ounces of cold water to rinse the mouth and throat afterwards. ACV works to close the hiatal sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach. There is always acid in the stomach, we constantly make it, but when you have a few cups of tea, the watery liquid actually dilutes the stomach acid too much and the muscle relaxes and allows reflux, that burning feeling in the esophagus, to occur. It is absolutely amazing how well this works. Dr Eric Berg also has a youtube.com video that explains Acid Reflux in more detail. Best Wishes!

Okeyokey, Owww that sounds painful and I can only imagine how hot water from a bath or shower must hurt. Feel better soon.

keetseel, so sorry for your loss.

Hello co down ni nfd – it was day 7 when I started to read through all the posts

First happy birthday @onahealthyhigh hope you have a great day.

@molij – it’s ok lol I knew what day you meant and marked you present for the correct one!

    welcome @yoyod and @m33.
Just a reminder (@sudha) could you start your post like this
Day ? (ie 8th July = day 8) where you are located and what type of day you are having or committing to ie fast day, fd etc thanks.

    Thanks @lopear

It’s getting late and I want to get up to watch the rugby tomorrow morning. Thinking of some of our group especially and feeling really proud of others – well done, keep it up!

    Day 8 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD – 82.1kg

I was actually down to 80.5kg after working out.

@penz – Very impressive – just using your sense of smell.

I haven’t broken my fast yet, but I will because I’m not mentally prepared or have the correct social situation to do 2 days in a row right now. However right now my body is probably burning through a gram of fat every 10 minutes, so I’m just trying to burn a couple more grams of body fat. My mid-section is more of skin folds than fat folds but I still have plenty of fat to burn off. πŸ™‚

    Day 8 – UAE – FD (3rd day of D5D)

    Day 7, Ottawa FD

I did pretty well today staying within 500 cal. I had 12k steps on my fitbit and did Jillian workout.

Tomorrow is my weigh in day. We are going camping tomorrow. This will be be first ever camping trip. I am so excited!!!

Day 8 NFD. North Wales. Not actually in North Wales at the moment. I am actually in Sheffield. Up at the crack of dawn with my granddaughter to give her Mum and Dad a lie in. Travelling to Northampton later to visit my other daughter. Hoping for a good day of sensible eating and lots of water. Happy birthday @onahealthyhigh πŸŽ‚. Good luck to all today.

Day 8 and Day 9, Emden Germany, NFD

    @onahealthyhigh Happy Birthday!

    Have a good weekend everyone!

    day 8 Israel, NFD
    (day 6, day 7 NFDs)
Almost finished my first week in 5:2 diet and no change (100 gms less) on weight this morning. I know I haven’t managed to keep the FDs 100% but way better than my usual intake. However I did get my period yesterday so maybe that is all to blame.
I’m not giving up as I know that for me not to Gain weight in this time is still an achievement, and also I’m committed to this July challenge no matter what, but I really need to see progress the coming week πŸ™ . Monday is my next FD and ill really make it count!! Thanks for being here πŸ™‚

    Still day 7 –

    @taraga – what’s D5D?

    Day 8 UK NFD

171.6 lbs. An even bigger bounce up despite a successful fast day yesterday. I should have known that sudden drop was unsustainable. Ho hum, I’ll get it back eventually. Onwards…

    Day 8 UK NFD

Weight today 63.4Kg /139 pounds, down 0.6 Kg for the week. First time in years I’ve been less than 10 stone and still can’t quite believe I’ve broken through that barrier. Going away for the weekend to London to visit my sister so will have to be vigilant!

Happy Birthday wishes to @onahealthyhigh. So sorry to hear of the loss of your dog @keetseel. I know how they become so much a part of the family. I was visiting an elderly lady yesterday whose dog of 18 years had to be put to sleep this week. She was totally inconsolable.
Good luck to everyone for a safe, healthy weekend.

    Day 8, UK, NFD

0.2kg return for the week, after 4x 0 kcal FDs. 23.5k kcal expended during the week according to my Fitbit and I doubt I ate as much as 10.5k on my 3 NFDs, so 12k kcal gave 0.2 kg. But that should only require 1,540 kcal, so no return for the other 10.5k kcal. Which should have given me another 1.35 kg 😑 Bl**dy thieving scales!

Maybe I need a break from this?

    Hi @bigviking

As others on this forum have said, weight does fluctuate. I know it’s nothing short of devastating when your efforts seem to show poor results sometimes but the alternative is to start gaining again and falling back into the habits that caused the weight in the first place.
You have the support of this amazing global group who are all rooting for each other to “weather the storms” of weight management!
I’m sure if you keep on keeping on and don’t get off the wagon, you will see results again!

    Day 8 Newcastle UK NFD.
It was a hard fasting day yesterday struggled in the evening but managed to stick with it and keep under the 600 calories. I need a steady day today.
number 1 grandchilds 13th birthday so family get together on Sunday to spoil her lots of food Temptations lol. I can’t believe she’s 13 already time is just flying by. Sunny blue sky day here in Newcastle although a little on the cool side have a great day whatever you’re doing

Hello day 8 co down ni nfd

@at hope everything is ok as it is very unusual for you not to have checked in for a few days x

Very impressed @penz on your will power.

@fatrabbit – don’t worry I have every faith you’ll be on a downward movement again. Probably only your body adjusting.

@bigviking it is so frustrating when things don’t go the way you feel they should but our bodies are still a mystery and certainly not machines. Although you have calculated mathematically what should happen, it doesn’t always work like that. It may take a few days for you to see the results from your effort. But why not for next go back to normal 5:2 which will seem like a break. Keep on keeping on.

    Day 8 – UK – CD

It was a wonderful day yesterday. Still in control of the calories and keeping it healthy; getting plenty of vegetables consumed.

    @onahealthyhigh Happy Birthday πŸŽ‰

@annemarilyn thank you for the question. It was a typo 😱 I meant to say b5b which as you know fasting 5 days back to back.

    Day 8, Northumberland UK, NFD

Another succesfull day at TDEE yesterday. Possible a bit high on the carbs and a scales bounce, but then they’re bouncy anyway, even on a downward trend so to be expected when I’m trying to maintain. Managed not to snack late evening so will take that as a win, and better sleep so not so hungry this morning. Broke my fast quite early yesterday, making for a longer eating window which I don’t think works for me anymore. Legs felt like lead in the gym, mostly I’m in a fasted state not sleep deprived and having eaten, but I got through it.

    Day 8 – UK – NFD

Weekends are definitely my weakness, pocket winos should be able to relate. So very unlike me I have volunteered to be our designated driver!!! i hope it helps the waistline- of course will feel πŸ˜‡ & hangover free!

    Day 8, Newcastle UK, NFD

For all I have only managed one FD this week, I have had a number of good controlled days. I’ll carry on trying to achieve my plan of getting back to good B2B FDs Monday/Tuesday.

So, we have a reprieve in the weather for the weekend. That means catching up on 3 customers’ gardens today before the rain returns next week. Tomorrow is going to be totally dedicated to our back garden which is in the process of being designed and built. OH has just finished building me a lovely arch and today has to lift turf and prepare some new beds. So exciting!!!

Wishing you a very happy birthday @onahealthyhigh πŸ™‚
@bigviking – Reading your last two posts it sounds to me like you are putting too much pressure on yourself right now. The basic 5:2 works, so stick with it – we know it’s the only sensible programme to give us a wealth of health benefits with weight reduction being a bonus. Maybe give yourself up to 800 cals on FDS and somewhere above BMR but below TDEE on 3 days (= controlled) and then you have 2 days to enjoy a bit more freedom if you want it. Are you restricting your eating window? I have found cutting out breakfast and having one or two meals a day has made all the difference for me. Others have found the same. Anyway, don’t despair. Take a deep breath and jump on the reset button πŸ™‚

Happy Saturday folks – keep on keeping on – together we are stronger!

    2nd post

@tlc2 – very impressive – you’ll be able to polish your halo on Monday morning πŸ™‚ Shame I won a very nice bottle of red wine in a raffle last night. How could I not open that with the Aberdeen Angus rump steaks that we have waiting for dinner tonight?! However, I’ll keep you in mind and try very hard to limit my alcohol intake this weekend. Have a good weekend.

    Saffy420 Chester UK NFD

Beautiful day here in Chester. Had a nice controlled NFD yesterday, even included a couple of g&ts as a Friday treat. Weekend as usual will be NFDs, out for a meal tonight then another barbecue with friends tomorrow.
@bigviking, I had a bit of a moan yesterday re not losing what I think I should. I had 10 days where I ate between 450 and 950 cals and yesterday I was UP 1 lb on July start. This morning I’m 1.5 lbs down on yesterday but a measly .5 of a lb since last week. I think we just need to keep the faith, all diets ultimately work on calories in versus energy out, it’s just that our bodies don’t work to mathematical formulas. I think @coda posted a couple of links last month to a couple of videos re plateauing which I found useful. Basically if we’re on a long term weight loss journey everyone will get them but they will go. For me there’s no alternative, I’m just sticking to the programme, drowning in water every day and trying not to get hung up on it.
