  • Day 6 UK NFD

I did jinx it, there is an upwards bounce this morning, but only a little one to 170.6 from .4. And considering that I succumbed to temptation and inhaled the free samples that Tesco, the buggers, put in my shopping (which were disgusting – why I finished them despite their being disgusting is a puzzle, but I did) the damage wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

It is going to be really hot again with possible thunder storms so I am putting off the heavy work until tomorrow when it should have cooled down. Today I will keep a close eye on the rabbits as the flies are a big problem in damp hot weather. Last night as I was putting them to bed I found Yarra had had eggs laid all over him and had a mucky wet bum so after I got all the others in I had to cut off all the wet mucky fur and comb all the eggs out of his coat. That took until 11pm. I will have to be vigilant today. Not all the rabbits are at risk as a healthy young rabbit won’t let the flies near, but we have so many old ones. Yarra looks much better this morning fortunately.

Funnily enough @califdreamer I am turning purple as the new purple trousers I bought now fit, and the Sanctuary shirts are purple and I even have purple socks!

Second post – odd how your tastes change, just had a banana that was riper than normal, and it was way too sweet….

Day 6, Hampshire, UK – NFD

Successful FD yesterday, I always start to feel hungry when we sit down for our Masterchef USA episode of the night but I guess its expected when they are showing all that yummy food.

My Topshop size 10 dress came yesterday and it FITS!!! it zipped up easily, I still feel like my tummy is not flat enough to wear it as its rather snug but as I bought it for our Vegas trip in September, it should fit much better then :). @califdreamer I was soo happy to send the 12 back, I have been a size 12 for at least 5 years so its amazing to be able to wear a 10.

I am still going through a weird mental state, I was complaining to my husband that I feel like I am not loosing weight and I feel bloated, he reminded me that when I first started this diet, I use to eat normally on my NFD but recently I indulge on cakes and chocolate, I think he is right. Also I have been working very hard in the gym and he is convinced that even though the scales are not shifting, my body shape is and he reckons that I have put on at least 1kg of muscle, I really hope is he right because the scales said 69.8kg this morning (1kg up on last week :S).

    @awilson thank you very much!!
@mirandash trust me I know the feeling, my husband use to get a KFC bucket for dinner on my FD and I use to sit there with him with my sad looking 300cal omelette, as hard as it was, he often felt terrible an hour after and I felt great lol!! try and resist that temptation for a few minutes and you will sail through it…
@anna6 love the fact that you are from Gozo, a friend of mine got married out there a few years back, what a beautiful place!!
@rainbowsmile Chin up, its upwards from here 🙂
@liathanail well done for drinking all that water, its just a habit you get into and I also thinks it helps with the weight loss!! Good luck 🙂

Day 6 Akron OH FD. My days are running together.

    Day 6 – UK – FD

Hot and stuffy night last night and the sunny weather down here means my hay fever is back with a vengeance. Been told we may get thunderstorms/heavy rain but no sign yet. Garden could do with it so unless I get caught in it, I won’t be complaining!

@rainbowsmile – lots of the shops have sales on at the moment – I got an almost little black dress (it’s very dark navy) from John Lewis at 70% off. Hobbs also have very smart ones too and some of theirs are heavily discounted too. Good luck with your search!

    Day6, Newcastle UK, NFD

I can’t call yesterday an FD as I had around 1050 cals. But I’m happy with a CD. I think I should refrain from joining pocket lists this month as I’m letting down fellow fasters too regularly just now. I’ll keep aiming for my goal of B2B FDs Monday/Tuesday with 3 CDs and 2 NFDs at the weekend.

@msraven – no that is not perverse at all – the good feelings are addictive.
@molij – you are probably at your daughter’s now, but a good exercise is to repeat ‘no thank you’ over and over to yourself in the mirror. Then when you are offered something you really don’t want, say ‘no thank you’ immediately. Once it’s out it feels very empowering with the danger having passed by.
@rainbowsmile – can I recommend: https://www.romanoriginals.co.uk/dresses?gclid=Cj0KEQjwv_fKBRCG8a3ao-OQuZ8BEiQAvpHp6MZpCd_f2B9yZbqKHNMDKaashBnaiWHI_-LzfrhJRRgaAocp8P8HAQ I get all my dresses there now. Fantastic fit, quality and very reasonable.
Surely all that exercise with 3 large dogs is worth the pain @sal47 lol!
We do it because we’re human @debster251. And the beauty of this WOL is that we can, without guilt, just not every day. I am surprising myself recently how my blips are having little or no effect because I offset them the next day with an FD – or more often a CD.
Good to see you back for July @chumi, @anna6 and @okeydokey 🙂
@pippapah – It’s really about what suits you and what foods you need to eat to keep you interested in maintaining this WOL. It does boil down to calories in vs calories out, but we all know that a calorie is not just a calorie. So the healthier your food choices, the better your journey should be. I guess you need to experiment. I can tell you that my 78 year old Dad who has lived on peanut butter sandwiches (several a day between meals) all his life has recently gone to a keto diet and the weight is falling off him. When he did have some bread, he felt quite bloated and ill for a few days. That was enough to convince him. However, I like the thought of making bread with keto recommended flour and will certainly look into that.

So again I’m closing with @xrox‘s brilliant quote: “Hunger is fat crying. Let’s make it weep!” Have a good day all.

    Day 6, Wales UK, FD

Been following the diet carefully and woke this morning feeling ‘thin’ so couldn’t resist hopping on the scales…wish I hadn’t as they showed a half pound up on my 1 July weight!??
Now wondering if my target loss of 6lbs for July is too ambitious – but its out there now so I’ll stick with it and today I’ve set myself an additional goal to stay on the 5:2 diet and keep with this challenge regardless what the scales say.

Learning loads from your posts – will drink more water today.

Have a good day everyone xx

    2nd post

Here’s a video from Dr. Eric Berg that explains better what I was trying to say about good calories vs bad calories in my response to @pippapah earlier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjnQZfeqHBw&feature=em-subs_digest

    Day 6, Belfast, FD
    Day 5, Belfast, NFD
Day 4 (Tuesday) was meant to be a FD…boy, I got home from work and ATE ALL ROUND ME!! :[

Really bad, I was in a bit of a mental fug and just ruined the day. Nuts, bread, cheese…at least I had a 5:2 dinner of sweet potato and lentil curry. Amazing recipe, I’ll post the link. But I think it was due to a quiet day in work, thinking about food, being a bit emotional…all added up to comfort eating. I was so annoyed, that was my first non-completed FD. But I’ve put it behind me and will pick it up again today.

@missybear – my weight goes all over the place, even when really strictly on 2 Fast Days per week. I’ve missed my target for the last few months (by a couple of pounds) but overall, since end of March, I am defo minus half a stone. I find this a slow-and-steady approach. Keep with it!!

@jarbia – I’m so jealous of the weather you guys are having. Northern Ireland is just mainly grey and wet during the summer…but at least it’s a bit warmer today. We’re heading to Portsmouth to visit family in August so should catch some rays then lol!

@rainbowsmile – all the best. My sister is finalising hers at the moment. Sending big virtual hugs.

I’ve compiled a pocket list for today – hope I’ve got everyone so far on it.

    Day 6, South Wales, FD

A hot, muggy and sticky day here, so just the right conditions to try upping my water intake (still waiting for that whoosh!)

Good luck all on FD today!

    Day 6 FD

Going for another FD today due to 2 meals out yesterday although I think was quite controlled. No other snacks so I’m sure well under TDEE.

    Day 6 NFD

Thanks guys – still in stinky ( but adorable) dogville over here but in last 24 hours now. Amazing how not being able to fast this week has affected my self esteem. Feel like a huge cave troll even tho I’m not. I’m due on which doesn’t help I know….. It’s great to know you guys are out there and understand.

Next week and week after will be doing 3 fasting days each week to make myself feel good mentally. Still determined to lose 2 in July.
    Roarrrrrr. Let’s kick ass! X

    Day 6…. Florida….NFD

I have today off, so the OH and I spending it together. Running a few errands, getting the monthly shop over, then stopping by the farmers store for our winter seeds…. Yeah! Maybe, I can talk him into getting some baby chickens. I’ve been trying for like three years to get them…. maybe today is the day!

@sal…. I have a friend who has tons of dogs….8 to be exact. The cutest little wiener dogs ever. Her house always smells so nice. She makes a homemade spritz that she sprays around the house daily…. maybe it will help you. In a spray bottle mix, 2 parts vinegar to one part water, the add lemon from one squeezed med.size lemon. She also sweeps and mops daily and washes the doggies blankets a couple times a week.
She always says that if your going to have fur babies in the house, you must put the work into keeping them feed and their home clean.

@songbird me…… I hope enjoy your veggies! What a great friend to share her bounty with you!

Yesterday was a very good FD, managed to drink enough water to drown myself and rounded the day with around 470 calories. I went to bed a bit hungry and wanting some chocolate so bad…… but I ignored both the dragon and my belly!
Today, the OH and I will be out and about so lunch out will be it.

I also talked to the youngest kid about starting to walk in the evenings with me. He says he will, so at least I got a walking partner plus I like the fact that I’ll be able to spend some one on one time with him. They grew up way to darn fast for me, I just feel like I don’t spend enough time with them any more!

Okay, well I must be off, the OH will be back from Mass in an hour and will want to start our wilderness journey and I won’t be ready if I keep sitting here.

Okay everyone now settle down……. we’ll start on my count of two….

    One…… two……

In the jungle……. the mighty jungle……….

    Day 6- Scotland- FD

It’s so nice to read all your posts, and sorry I don’t have time to reply to people individually.
Yesterday I eat too much – lots of hummus ( I can eat it with a teaspoon as if it were a pot of yogurt…disgusting, I know), plus some left over noodles with veg and prawns left by my son. But this didn’t wake up my dragon, which is a massive success. Still, a couple of hundred grams more on the scale today, so extra motivation for my fast day.

Off to the Gp now. The chicken pox left a very very bad dermatitis on my baby skin, still very red, itchy and with infected patches. Poor thing. All this means of course sleepless nights (although last night I think I managed to sleep almost 5 hours – not in a row, obviously- so I feel “rested” today

    Day 6 USA-WA NFD
Going for a controlled NFD, being vigilant about carbs. Very hot here, so also vigilant about water and sodium +electrolyte intake. Plenty of things to keep me mindful today!

    Day 6 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

Going to do a 16:8 day today as there will be dinner out and “Evita” at our local summer stock theater. Our youngest played Eva Peron at University of Michigan years ago, so this will be memory time with tears for me if this production is any good.

@strawberriesandcream – thanks so much for the Dr. Berg YouTube link! Wow what a wealth of information in that one and the ones that followed about IF. I went through my 35 pound loss without ever having seen him. How did I miss his information?

    Onward and downward!

    Day 6 – USA – NFD

Good fast day yesterday, thank you pocketeers! Even made my low-carb ice cream for today and didn’t lick spoon or bowl! Already reported on the Miracle Noodles and thank you whoever recommended Trim Healthy Mama Not Naughty Noodles…very inexpensive, came to $18 for 12 packets, but $12 for shipping! I’ll wait until they come to Walmart, lol. @bert1802, we have six laying hens, fresh delicious eggs daily. It took a few months to figure out which baby chicks were actually hens and which were roos. Turns out our first batch was all roosters! @Rainbowsmiles, thinking of you in your transition xoxo @strawberriesandcream, kudos to your dad for discovering keto! I’m not strictly keto but aim to eventually get there…I’m happy just doing low carb, healthy fat, moderate protein for now as hubby cooks and I allow myself to eat tiny portions of what he cooks at times. It makes him feel better when we eat together. You will find the keto bread consistency is not exactly like real bread, but it somehow satisfies me. There is a wrap called Xtreme Wellness by Ole, I believe, that comes in spinach herb, whole wheat and tomato basil: 50 calories and 5 net carbs. I use them daily for my brunch wrap (no breakfast anymore).

Day 6 FD North Wales. Thought I would try a different approach to my fast day. I normally have a breakfast and evening meal totalling 500 cals. Today I decided to miss breakfast and see how long I could go without food. So far so good. I have made sure I drink lots of water. My daughter is cooking vegetarian kebabs tonight. If I can manage to avoid the bread I should stay well within my 500 cals. Every time I feel hungry I just tell myself it will pass and it does. It’s helping that I am distracted by the Grandchildren. I also keep telling myself that tomorrow within reason I can eat what I want 😀

    Day 6, Gozo, Malta, fd

Today I weighed in at 66.8 kilos. I’d like to be 64 kilos.

I’m fasting at 800 calories today. I need to lose some weight before 27 July when we’re going for a 12 night cruise in east Mediterranean. I won’t have access to weighing myself after the 26 July.

I’m babysitting my eldest daughter son who is eleven months.
She’s still waiting to sign separation papers hopefully this month.

    Thanks Coda for your welcome.

Onwards and downwards, have a great day everyone.

3rd post…obviously got a bit of time on my hands lol!
I’ve added a few more fasters to the pocket list. I’m trying to stay on the game today!!

Day 6, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Still maintaining below 145, it is mid morning here and my husband is sleeping in as he didn’t sleep well last night. I, therefore, have been quietly eating shortbread cookies and red grapes.

Dinner last night was a gift from a friend – a bag full of young, tender zucchini was brought by the office – so I sliced one and pan fried it (just sprayed a big non stick skillet with Pam and sprinkled it with garlic and seasoned salt and cooked them on both sides until they crisped up. ) Also had nice mixed salad and a glass of red wine

Staying home today to catch up on house and yard work as I will be gone all day tomorrow with friends. Plan to get in several exercise sessions throughout the day. And lots, lots, lots of water.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy day/night.

    Day 6–ABQ–FD

Thank you, @coda, you are so right. This might be the one thing in my life I have control over.

@lilymartin–I like the idea of a no-plastic July. I try to be no-plastic whenever possible but like you said, it’s difficult in our society. I had also heard about the huge amount of little plastic bits in the oceans.

To everyone: it’s been a sad couple of days. My sweet dog died on Tuesday and then on Wednesday found out about a tragedy that befell my boss the same day. Yesterday felt completely upside-down. Reading everyone’s posts today and hearing about your daily concerns reminds me that life goes on, with all its sorrows and joys. Thank you.

cut and pasted the pocket list below:

    Day 6, Emden Germany, NFD

@keetseel I’m so sorry about losing your dog and the tragedy your boss had to go through. Losing a much loved animal is just heartbreaking, they give you so much. Take care.

@lilymartin a non plastic July would be imposible to do overhere, everything is packed in plastic. Supermarkets pack everything in it, even broccoli, cauliflower and ghurkins. We try to buy our vegetables at a grocery that sells local producs, you have to pay to have your groceries packed in paper, we always bring our old paper bags to have them filled or use cotton ones. On our local market only the organic farmer uses paper bags.

It’s very busy at our terrace at the moment, hundreds of flying ants are taking off, it’s a beautiful sight. Some of them are having problems to get in the air and just walk around.

    Day 6 USA NFD
    Keetseel
I am so sorry to here about your doggie! I am a dog lover and know how much our animals can mean to us! I prefer to call them babies! Hope things work out for your boss. It sounds like you have been hit hard. Keep your chin up. Things will get better. I am just down the road from you in Amarillo, TX. It is about a 4 hour drive. We visit Albuquerque frequently. Have relatives that live off Tramway. Love the mountains! My husband and son like playing the golf courses there. Sandia Casino is one of my favorite!

Please drop me from the July challenge. There are too many family issues going on right now. Best of luck to you all!

    Day 6 – UK – FD – sorchio 😎

@keetseel so sorry to heat about your dog. They really are part of the family aren’t they? I was heartbroken when we lost our wee cat last year, he really was a character and a sweetheart. But I know that he was just making way for the next two little bundles that arrived this year, as he would have really struggled with the twins if he’d still been here and he would have been so stressed. Hopefully your wee dog didn’t suffer and know he had a fantastic life and was much loved.

    Hi
@otterlover so sorry to hear that but thank you for letting us know. I hope things improve and please feel free to join us again. Best wishes x

@keetseel so so sorry about your dog. We had a dog when we first got married 37 years ago. We had no children so he and another wee rescue dog were our children. He was young when we lost him and even now when I think of Ben I still tear up. Only dogs lovers would understand. We have had other dogs since that we love to bits and grieve that their lives are much shorter than ours but Ben was special. The death of a much loved friend is a death in the family, it will take time. Thinking of your boss as well at what must be a difficult time. Look after yourself!

As some will be waking up soon to day 7 I want to remind you all that a healthier and slimmer body should be a gift you give to yourselves no matter what age you are. Because you are you and you are worth it. Tell yourself that each and every time you look in a mirror. Repeat after me!
    I AM WORTH IT!

Day 6, Rocky Mountains, US, BSD 800 cals

@strawberriesandcream: Thank you for the great link to Dr. Eric Berg’s videos. Watched already several and there is very good information in them.😊🌺😊

@keetseel: So very sorry to hear about your furry baby. That is what I am afraid of, having to say goodbye to a dear friend and family member. My puppy is almost 12 years old. Also sorry to hear about your boss’ tragic event. Life is really unpredictable even though we think we have it all planned out.

My 800 cals FD day yesterday morphed into a CD. Today I will really stick with 800 cals and watch more of Dr. Berg’s videos on IF.

    Have a good Thursday everyone!

    Onwards and downwards! 😊😊😊

    Day 6 Chester UK FD

Apple for lunch and chicken stir fry for tea. Treated myself to half a tortilla wrap with the chicken and home made salsa. I should finish the day round about 600 calories.
I’ve drunk oceans of water today as it’s so hot. @keetseel so sorry about your dog. It’s so hard to lose a furry friend. They’re certainly not just dogs but an integral part of the family.

    Day 6 California USA FD

I had a bounce up 1.4 pounds today to 145.8. I did pretty well yesterday but ate a lot of miso, so perhaps some of it is water weight gain. It looks like there were quite a few of us with a bounce today. Oh well, the 5:2 goes on. I read this quote last night and really found it inspiring when thinking about the 5:2 WOL:

“We can either make ouselves miserable or make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” -Carlos Castaneda

At hairdressers at the moment and just read a tip in a magazine. We could all try it and see if it really works.
Breathe – if food temptation strikes sit down a slow your breathing to 4-6 breathes a minute. This is supposed to rev up activity in the brain that controls habits and resolve. After a few mins your focus should return?

@keetseel, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. We lost a 14 year old long haired Dachshund in January and I know the agony. Our pets are like our children. Losing them is just devastating. But the joy they bring us and all the wonderful memories, help to counteract the sadness. Big hugs to you.

    Day 6, USA: Kansas, FD

@coda: I couldn’t use the same sauce as the family’s pasta dinner as it’s a one pot dinner recipe and there is no extra sauce. That is alright though, I finally gave the courgette (or as called here a zucchini) a second chance on the 4th of July. I used my spiralizer and made the noodles and realized I disliked it the first time because I didn’t know I could cook it. The heated sauce on the cold, raw ‘noodles’ was appalling to me. So on the fourth I sauteed them until they softened a little and then added some lovely pesto and I really enjoyed them!

@keetseel I am very sorry about your loss. Losing a beloved pet IS losing family, it’s what I believe. Hugs to you.

Second post: @keetseel, so sorry to hear your sad news! We also have a 13 year old diabetic Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle) and we cherish every day with him. He’s like our child, as we are empty nesters.

Day 6 McMinnville Oregon USA NFD

My NFD became a successful FD yesterday. I wasn’t hungry in the morning so I just went with it. Love it when it works out that way.

@lilymartin – Thank you for mentioning Plastic Free July. I joined up and will do my best to not use plastic.

@rainbowsmile – Your post takes me back to my divorce. It’s such a difficult time. I hope you will stay with us in this forum for the support offered and a great WOL

@keetseel – So sorry to hear about losing your dog and your boss’s tragedy. My thoughts are with you.

    Chicago, Illinois USA

@coda thanks for taking this on. My goal is low, to lose 1 pound this month, haha. I am so bad!

Day 6 – SW WA USA – NFD

@Strawberriesandcream – what lovely dresses in the link you shared! Too bad they don’t ship to Canada or the USA.

I appreciate the keto info folks have shared – @metatauta and others. I’m working on heading into that direction in hope of getting the weight to trend downwards instead of bouncing around.

It’s a hot sunny day! Glad I got a good walk in before it got too hot. My strength and stamina is increasing after healing up from an injury about a year ago.

    Together we are stronger!

    Day 6 | Alaska | FD

So I chose Wednesday as my official weight day, pretty disappointing this week since it was the day after a holiday. My official weight is 146, just so happens to be the same weight I started June challenge with. Today I was 145.8 and I felt like I was pretty controlled yesterday, hoping the fact that I had a super hard workout yesterday and am sore today is an indicator that I’m retaining a bit of water.

Fast days go pretty good. Hungary but not unbearable. I’ve been toying with changing to EOD fasting but not excited by the idea.

This WOL would work a lot better if I would quit with the binge-ing. That is my overall goal.

@debster – thanks for sharing. Sounds like you can relate. 37 years is a long time. I’ve been with my husband for 15, we have a 12 year old son. My husband is the kindest, most nurturing man I’ve ever known but he’s also stubborn as a mule and doesn’t like being told what to do and will spite you with doing the opposite. I worry for his health but can’t voice my concern or it only makes matters worse. I can only lead by example, which is divisive at times. But as I always say – I’ve got two choices – put up and shut up OR make a change. If I put up and shut up then I need to find my happiness on my own and create the space I need to live the life I want to live. So that is what I’m doing but every now and again I feel sad and alone. But I’m not ready to make a change because the good does outweigh the bad.

Hope everyone is doing well and achieving their intentions today.

    Still day 6 –

@rainbowsmile – My thoughts & prayers are with you during this difficult time. Divorce Care is an international group that was helpful for me when I went through my divorce. If you go to divorcecare.org you can find out if there is a support group near you.

Day 5 Massachusetts USA NFD This was a good NFD as I finished the day just below my TDEE, even with a lunch out.
Day 6 This day is more of a struggle. After the 6th day with my young grandkids, I’m wanting wine and cheese at 4pm! 🍷🧀Thought it a good idea to check in with my buddies. I resolve to stay at or below my TDEE again. Tomorrow MUST be a FD as the next day is a wedding shower! Being this mindful about the relationship between stress and eating, I realize how easily I drifted in the past. Thank you all for being here!

@keetseel I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. A dog is a member of the family. We were devastated when we lost ours so I really feel for you at this time.
Managed to complete a successful fast day today despite not being at home. Going to try fasting until the evening meal again. Not sure if it was the heat today or the volume of water I have drunk but I have managed to cope well with the lack of food.

Hi just saw this group, I have been doing 5:2 (well kicked started with 4:3) and this is my fourth week. Lost 4lb first week, 2lb second week and put on a 1lb third week. Weigh in tomorrow for my 4th week, I hope I have lost!
FD this week Mon, Tue and Today!
I think next week will do 4:3 but then after that revert to 5:2. I have a hol 8 Sept and need to lose 17 lb by then!

    Hi @anna6

We have just returned from a Med cruise and there were scales in the gym!!! Just saying….. on the off chance you’d like to see the effect of almost 24 hour food!!! I threw caution to the wind and ate what I liked and then did back to back 5 days of fasts when I came home… worked fine to get rid of the holiday weight. Have a great time!

Day 7 Australia NFD – Woo hoo! I appear to have lost 2kgs this week! Happy dance. I have not had a FD for weeks but I have been very strict with my diet – not just eating healthy but also portion control. I was really thrilled last night as my younger son returned from a holiday in Europe yesterday and the family wanted to get Thai for the celebration meal. I thought I’d end up microwaving mixed vegetables for myself (picture wee martyr at the table!) but there was a grilled barramundi salad (fish for the non-Australians 🙂 and I was able to order that without the dressing. Perfect! I have also stuck to my AF.
Not looking forward to the next few days though – I fly to Melbourne tomorrow to meet up with siblings coming in from NZ and Adelaide to clean out my brother’s things and prepare the house for sale. Will be a traumatic few days.
Good luck to everyone with their weigh-ins.

@rainbowsmile – this must be such a stressful time for you but take pride in the fact that you are getting through it and you are making major – positive – changes to your life. All strength to you!

Good luck @yoyod – nice to see how well you have progressed to date. Keeps me focused seeing others doing so well.

Day 6 FD St. Louis USA
@keetseel Sorry for loss of your animal friend.

    Best of luck all.
