MiaK, welcome to the forum!
Is it difficult? Not really. I assume you have read the book or the FAQs on this forum? You have calculated your TDEE and BMR?
People on this forum approach their fast days differently. Some spread the 500/600 cal over more than one meal. Personally, I eat my allowance in one go in the evening and drink tons of water and tea during the day.
Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.
Stef.
Hi and welcome:
Here are some tips for those just starting 5:2: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/
Good Luck!
Hi MiaK ..
I’ve also just started this new lifestyle of eating too!! .. I thought it might be a bit tough at first also but, It actually not too difficult … at all. Yes .. it does take bit of discipline but I just want you to know that you’ve got all the support and encouragement you need on this forum. I found that out when I first started … couldn’t believe how supportive everyone was .. especially a poster call(hope she doesn’t mind me mentioning her) … Angie, she’s some kinda forum Auntie who is really motivating and give all nessasary support and seems really down to earth, she’ll also give you any advice best to her knowledge… as does everyone on this forum!!.
Hey MiaK .. best of luck.. let us know how it goes and drink plenty on yr Fast days … for me … it really does help suppress the Hunger pangs … just remember … when you feel Hungry .. it means yr body is dipping into yr Fat reserves!!(thats what I was told) .. anyways .. it helps motivate me to hang in there .. so it works!!.
good luck …

Hi MiaK
good going .. keep it up!! … Yea .. at first, it can seem like that re how little 500 cal can be but, it also depends on the type of food you eat ie … a bowl of granola can easily be 500 cals where as it would take a big chicken salad to add up to 500 cal and it’ll be more filling too!!. But As I said before … it’ll take some time for you to fine tune yr 5:2 diet to suit your lifestyle and I’m sure you’ll in no time .. find the right foods to suit that .. and not feel hungry!!
Good luck MiaK

And there is always tomorrow…..when you can have whatever you like in the right sized portions!
I have been fasting today too. Nothing since 7 last evening until 5:45 this evening when a good sized salmon fillet, ratatouille and broccoli disappeared all too quickly! But I do feel I don’t want anything else to eat atm but will just continue with water and tea until later then take my book to bed out of harms way 🙂
Keep going MiaK fasting does get easier and hopefully you will soon start to look forward to your fast days 🙂
Hi Lindyw
Well said re the fasting gets better … I really do look towards my fast days as it’s the sense of achievement at the end wich motivates me to push through it!!. Good going … 22 hr fast .. Did you feel really hungry during this period and how did you get through it? .. drink much??
Keep it going … 🙂

Me? No I can’t say I felt hungry until about 5pm when I had collected my godson from school and he was ‘starving’ as 6 year olds usually are! He wanted crackers, cream cheese and grapes followed by a Bakewell tart. This was a snack before his mother fed him when she took him home but I could have eaten every mouthful!
During the day I had tea and coffee (with milk)and lemon tea with ginger plus water.
Onwards and downwards 🙂
