  • Hi

I started the 5.2 diet last year and lost half a stone fairly quickly, but then lost no more so stopped. I am starting the diet again as would love to loose 2 stone by august for my brothers wedding.

I seem to be able to loose about 3 pound on week 1, and then no more comes off.

On my fast days i drink loads of water a few grapes and nuts, and soup for dinner, and my normal days i don’t over eat.

Any advice to let me know how to get the weight to keep coming off? maybe i don’t stick at the diet long enough, to be fair i only stick at it for about a month , but because loose a certain amount and then it stops coming off i stop the diet.

    thanks

Are you tracking your calories on your non-fast days? If you aren’t losing weight, you are probably eating too much on those days. I am keeping the calories closer to my BMR than my TDEE.

I am with Amy. It is very easy to under estimate your calorie intake. I use MyFitnessPal to log everything I eat and I am regularly very surprised about some things that contain much more calories than I thought they would.

Also perhaps weigh the food for a couple of weeks? Again it is very easy to under estimate portion sizes.

    Best of luck
    Stef.

    Hi Mia,

    On a Fast Day,
I would look at having 28gr porridge made with milk and water and fruit for Breakfast, or 28gr muesli with some fruit……..and at Dinner some salad with protein, such as 100gr of chicken breast, tuna, prawns, fish or any meat. This helps you loose weight. Drinking the water as you do helps with hunger.

Soup would be good on a non fast day lunch, and the nuts for snacks on non fast days. Not so good on a Fast Day!

This is what I do with my hubby, we loose 1lb / 2lb a week, also maybe a bit a walking or swimming, some excerise would help with weight loss.

The two stone off for August is good goal, we lost two stone each in 5 months.

    Good luck

    Hi and welcome:

I don’t think there is a problem with the diet, I think you may expect too much from it.

An average woman can expect to lose between one-half and one pound a week following 5:2. It can be more at the start, but that is water weight that is lost, not fat weight. That sounds like what happened to you – you lost some water weight and then ‘stopped losing’. What really happened is you kept losing fat weight, but it had to catch up with the water weight loss before more weight loss showed up on the scales. Some people call it a ‘plateau’. You quit instead of continuing the diet, and that ended your weight loss.

Here are some thoughts that might help: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

Here is how the ‘math’ works, showing expected weight losses under any diet: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/tdee-for-the-curious-or-why-dont-i-lose-weight-faster/

And as there is usually not consistent weight loss with any diet, here is how a typical pattern of loss might look: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/really-no-weight-loss/

    Good Luck!
