Hi Xiang, yes, that’s exactly right. I made that point to them on the phone when I was asking about returning the thing. They agreed!
It’s a small amount of calories and carbs (at least 15 per cup I think)so that’s 100 calories a day that people can take regulularly throughout the day and not know about.
I was so disappointed in it all! What a scam I think those things are now!
I’ve found a nice 15 Bar Espresso and Cappuccino Coffee Maker Machine that you put your own ground coffee in and foam your own milk with. At 50 pound a bit cheaper than the coffee thing!
Sorry I’ll shut-up about it! Going on too much I can hear myself! 🙂 xx
Hi all
Well said Smiffy. Having only suitable foods available and planning ahead helps to not slip into the old ways.
Hermaj, you can park your chocolate in my place. I actually don’t particularly like it. BTW, over here it is the Queen’s Birthday holiday. Are you QE2? Should we be singing to you? We found, the same as you, your body does adjust over time and you tend to automatically eat less and better on normal days (most of the time).
JIP, you don’t need encouragement. You know exactly what to do. As you say, most of us have a good handle on fast days, it is the rest of the week that can be our downfall.
Cheeseplease, I love your name. I am a passionate cheese eater. Consequently, I did not buy any cheese except for shaved parmesan and low fat riccotta when I first started 5:2. When we did buy blocks again it often went mouldy before it was eaten….thank you Mr Will Power!
We started off doing Tuesday and Thursday, but I found I was getting really obsessed with only one EATING day in between. Sometimes ate very little, other times ate far too much. Now we do Monday and Thursday. The gap in between makes life far more normal. If we have leftovers from Tues, we can use them Weds. We tend to eat far more normally and don’t feel restricted.
As to the health benefits, in case you are new, my husband has gone from injecting insulin every day to one Metform (don’t take it, can’t spell it?). His blood sugar levels are low and steady. He records his daily results, so it is easy for us to identify when we have run amok quite quickly. I can assure you a couple of wines doesn’t effect him, but too many carbs or sugars and he goes sky high. Beer and cider are baddies too. If he sticks to lean proteins, lots of veg and small amounts of carbs he is great. This Fast Diet is a clever way of teaching him that healthy homecooked food is good for him and processed foods are catastrophic.
All the best Cheeseater. You are on the right path.
Cheers

No need to shut up, talking is obviously helping you deal with the absurdity of the contents of the pods, and possibly other things – it is better to talk, than to stew!
On another topic, I have just finished my second fast day, well about to break the fast anyway, and have lost 3cm from my waist and 1kg of weight; since my first fast day on Wednesday. I am very happy about this beginning. If I keep going like this, I will reach my goal in a short time. I have just over 30kg to lose, but because I am tall, people keep telling me that I can carry it – I don’t want to carry it anymore. Also just wondering – I have lost about 5 cm in height, due to spinal disc damage – once I have lost the 30 plus kilo’s; is it logical to think that I would get my 5cm back? I don’t like feeling short, never got used to it when young, as everyone lose seemed to be shorter than me
Hi Deputy chief captain JIP – you are doing such a good job I think another award is on the way when Precious gets home.
Hi Speedy, re the coffee machine, no need to apologise for ‘going on’ about it, you need to get it off your chest. I think Nestle is too much for this. Like PVE I’m a passionate believer in breast-feeding and their promotion of formula in 3rd world countries is unconscionable.
Hi Cheeseplease – love the name, I adore cheese. When I started IF I was fine on fast days but the others were like the brakes had failed in my car and was running away downhill out of control. I gave myself metaphorical boot up the posterior and flexed my very weak willpower muscle and started keeping a food diary for non-FDs to ensure I stayed below my TDEE. I didn’t feel deprived because for anyone who has dieted conventionally it is quite generous and I didn’t exclude anything, although refined carbs were eaten in moderation because they have a disastrous effect on my waistline.
I know calorie counting is boring and time consuming, especially if you’re busy with other things, but I found I only needed to do it for a few weeks initially and then just occasionally to get back into line when the rate of weight loss slows. Most weeks I lose abt 1.5lb.
You CAN do it, just welcome Mr Will Power, as PVE recommends.
Public holiday for Her Maj’s birthday here so fasting tomorrow and Wed for me.
Have a good week everyone!

Hello again
I was just wondering how people cope with taking medication on fast days? I am supposed to take painkillers twice a day with food and on non fasting days take them with breakfast and evening meal. However on fast days I don’t have breakfast, so my medication will be closer together. How do other people get round this?
Welcome back BooBoo, We have missed you. Glad you had a nice time at home. I only live about 35 miles away from where I was brought up until I married a Royal Sailor in my twenties and only travelled the uk Plymouth, Portsmouth and Aberporth in Wales. Home will always be 35 miles away, even now when there is no one to go home to. My husband says you can the girl out of the vallies but you cannot take the valley out of the girl. You need to know the welsh vallies to understand this bit of my rubbish thread.
We are getting a big family now and the threads are so interesting. I have been Nordic walking sun was out got back with an hour to spare, time for a quick shower and played bowls this afternoon, lovely meal provided, I cannot tell a lie I had the cheese cake it was to die for.mmmmmmm. LOL been good most of the time. Off to WW tomorrow to face the music, I can do this I am brave. good night all.
Over to you BooBoo. JIP
Welcome back Precious. Hope you had a good time. We did all miss your thoughtful, caring contributions.
All went quiet for a short while, then it took off again. I think we people on the other side of the world (hi Nicky) will need lots of support as the weather turns and our mates at the other end go off on their summer holidays.
The old man and I are both struck down with bugs today (should have had our ‘flu shots) so both staying in bed today while the rain pours down. I’ll try to fast as well. Could be tricky.
Keep busy everyone. “Don’t mention the food”, to misquote Basil Fawlty!

I’m 58 and due to client’s in their late 30’s (I’m a massage therapist) who looked glowing after being on the 5.2 diet, I decided to give it a go. I have no health issues but wanted to loose a couple of kilos. Previously I was into green smoothies and had 2 smoothies a day. Either green or fruit and sprouted almonds and sunflower seeds. I began 5.2 late in 2013 thinking I’d never manage the fast days. In fact they were the easy part and I even extended it to a 40 hour fast in time because I didn’t feel hungry or lacking in energy. However when I resume eating I feel starving all the time as well as weak and woozie in the head and not well at all. As I said I had no health problems except for low blood sugar/ pressure, only when stressed. So far I have lost no weight nor changed body shape. I don’t look any better in fact a lot pastier in complexion In fact I honestly can’t see any benifit in staying on this diet. What I would like to know is, has anyone had the same experience and is this diet not suited to everyone?
Thanks Precious
Actually, I had a terrible throat all night, but got up and went to the city for a lecture I had paid for (in the rain), leaving the boy to suffer alone. He survived (fasting) and I feel a lot better tonight. He is still suffering so has been sent to bed alone (lucky we have a large house)
I achieved a fast day despite all the extra issues, so quite pleased with myself.
BTW, good try on the Aussie lingo, but it is “crook”. As in “I feel crook ‘cos I ate some crook chook.” (crook = ill or off; chook = chicken)
Off to bed now.
Thanks for the motherly advice. If we are both sick, it usually still requires me to do the mothering.
Cheers

Hi to all LOACA, and especially preciousbooboo. Thanks for your welcome to the forum and for your comments re complimentary therapies, specifically TFT. Iam a trained practitioner and use it all the time to help myself and others, with a pretty good success rate. Anyway, enough of that. Im now halfway through my 2nd fast day and still finding it easier than expected, tho’ i sometimes find I have to remind myself not to eat out of habit. does anyone else have that problem. Im so used to eating at certain times its quite difficult not to eat automatically, without thinking what I’m doing!
I’m loving reading all the comments from others. Very helpful and inspiring.
No weigh in yet for me. I’m trying to stay off the scales till I get a few fasts under my belt, so hopefully I’ll get a nice surprise! As you all say,’onwards and downwards’.
Just to finish my coffee maker story.
Shop wont accept it back because it’s not damaged and they stick to saying I should have researched the ingredients of the pods beforehand. THey are not completely wrong I admit but it’s not obvious nor easy to research.
Nestle told me some of their pods don’t have sugar – basically anything with milk and some others can have sugar. They are mostly sold in mixed boxes with coffee and milk though unless I order it online from their webshop.
To be honest I’ve lost interest in it all. 🙁
I’ll reclaim the cashback offer on it then probably give it away. I don’t want to have to just be able to use a few of the range – I’m too grumpy and got the hump with it all for that! Plus now I understand it, I don’t like the selling model – cheap machine expensive pods.
Just shows how buying is also an emotional experience and rationality can go out of the window!
Hi BooBoo, I am reporting in, I stayed the same (goal) at weigh-in, with my Fridays night indulgence at in-laws that is remarkable for me. I can and have put on 2 lb at my next WW class. So, I am patting myself on the back and not forgetting it’s 5-2 that did it and all you lovely people on here. BooBoo I am not a Facebook person, I still think your thread of the LOACA it should be followers. OK! OK, I will be good or should I say I will try to be good.
Went to play bowls this afternoon it rained, we all had a cup of tea hoping it would clear up but Captains called it off at 3pm with no improvement on the horizon. pun. LOL. I have one eye on the tennis and the other catching up on here. Going to make tea shortly. Something nice not fasting today, Hehehehehe.

Hi speedy and co.
Just last week I bought a freeview recorder. I bought one 129.00 plus it needed a HDMI leads another £49.99 got it home and it did not work I took it back next day exchanged it for Panasonic model paid extra £50 better model. I am the techno in our house so I out it together set it up etc. it was not easy and the buttons on the controls were very small and had so many buttons hubby did not like it and I must admit it wasn’t easy I said we cannot take it back just because you don’t like it, we will have to get use to it. there were two things I could not understand so a couple of days later we called in to the store with the control and the handbook to ask customer service advice. I told them the whole story, they said some button were only used if you had a Panasonic TV as well.( we did not have one) the print on the screen could not be read from our seats I had to get up to go nearer the TV/recorder. I then added that hubby thought it was a load of rubbish and he only has one eye. He said he would see if he could do anything for us. 2 minutes later he was back we exchanged it for a model which was a newer model of the one we have in another room. Now that is a success story where the shop went over and above their service. Sorry for the long story but proving some companies can do it. JIP
Hi everybody:
I am noticing just like vicki j that on non-fasting days, the moment I eat I am starving. Actually I have the same problem on fasting days too but I bear and grin it, though it does make me grumpy. I haven’t lost any weight yet (nearly 3 weeks) but my clothes don’t feel tight any more and my skin is great. I have also noticed that I do not suffer from water retentio, on the contrary…
However also, instead of craving sugary things, I crave fat. Can you believe it? What is wrong with me? 🙁 🙁 🙁
Cheesplease: I think that the apple or orange could be enough, however, why don’t you ask you doctor or a nurse? That way you would be on the safe side and not have to experience the side-effects of painkillers on your stomach lining which can be nasty and painful.
My biomagnetic pair therapist has suggested I ake a chromium supplement before meals to control my hunger. Any idea if it works?
Positive energy to you all!
Best, iouabook
Hi Precious Boo Boo,
It’s been on the phone but I have spoken to people in the shop and their head-office. And Nestle’s customer service manager – I feel I’m not going to get anywhere even if I went into the shop. Now they have had back-up from their head office they won’t do anything I feel sure.
My problem is the machine works and I used it once.
It had an unusual cashback offer on it – that wasn’t the reason I bought it lol! So it will be about 25 pounds rather than 50. And I think that’s how Nestle got so large!
It’s odd how these experiences put you off a inanimate device. But following on so soon after my new but broken television adventures – I think I’ll stop buying electrical appliances for a while!
Or not so little woman in my case! 😉
Yes there is a consumer bond here but the reality is I am technically in the wrong. The thing works and I used it. Maybe it’s a bit lilly livered of me but I don’t think I will win this one.
I found out that Nestle do have some pods without sugar – their cs told me on Saturday that they didn’t. But even that turns me off the machine as I have to find out and learn which ones. But it means you can make sugarless coffee in the machine. At first I thought that was not possible.
I simply don’t have the energy for it when I feel I will lose anyway. But thanks for your support. Hope you are feeling OK. x
Hi BooBoo, me, get up to anything, how could you think such a thing? I maintained because I fasted
Sunday and I was very good on Monday except for the cheesecake which I defy anyone with a sweet tooth like mine to say no to. LOL. Do not forget the Nordic walking and the afternoon of bowls before the meal on Monday.
Just like LindaW us LOACA need to keep our strength up to fight the non fast and the fasting days too. We love you anyway BooBoo.
OW’s & DW’s. JIP
HI all
Am I a bit daft (don’t answer)? You all keep using abbreviations I don’t get. And I DO look back through the threads to see if they were initially written in full.
What is TFT?
JIP, what the heck are OW’d & DW’s?
Now to praise…
Well done JIP. We CAN have our cake and eat it too! I am also successfully maintaining my goal weight by continuing with 2 fast days a week, even though on normal days I am splurging a bit, but usually smaller portions.
Precious, I also gauge my size by ring and bra fit. I think they are very good indicators. I had my rings enlarged a few years ago as I plumped up, now they almost fall off. It is funny being able to slip them off to make pastry and scones when for many, many years I couldn’t get them off. Do as you often say Precious, go back to basics. Read the books, record your food for a while and be strict with yourself. I think the occasional week of keeping a close eye on everything you eat can reset the clock.
Speedy, I did warn you about Nestle! In Aust, our consumer laws cover misrepresentation of a product but as you now know they have non sugar pods you can’t use that. I guess you have to chock it up to experience.
Yes iouabook, it is fascinating how we can go for ages not eating and then as soon as we eat anything our hunger kicks in. I guess it was a survival mechanism for times when food was not available. Michael said our bodies were built for feast and famine. That’s why I no longer snack, even on normal days, and try not to eat until as late as possible on fast days. Just too weak if I start eating. Another trick is to prepare your food and serve it out on a plate. Only ever eat sitting down. Stops pigging out with an open fridge and ensures you only eat the correct amount. Also, stop as soon as you can and say to yourself “better in the bin than on the hips”!
As Precious says, get on this site and occupy yourself otherwise. Strangely, I can even do a whole lot of cooking, without tasting any, and kid myself I have had a meal. Mmmmm…
Food for thought
PVE 🙂
JIP, I’m often having trouble following the threads as they seem to often get out of order.
If I access through Recent Posts they come up in a different order (allowing for skipping the other threads) to going direct to LOACA bit.
Tres weird!
Better get up and going. Sleep well in the western hemisphere.

BooBoo, all through my dieting life I have had trouble with bras and rings, when I got home from a night out or a bowls game, I could not wait to get my bra off, I always felt it had shrunk from my own perspiration. LOL good excuse.
I usually take my rings off to go to bed and I have to use soap or hand cream to get them off. I cannot say why because they had been ok all day. Some days my tummy looked as if I was 6 months pregnant in a matter of an hour I would even think I am not going to lose weight tonight if it a WW weigh-day but for some reason I would have lost a pound. What does that say about a women’s body?
Don’t forget it took me about 7 weeks to lose my 6 or 7 lbs with staying the same and even putting on when I had kept to the 5-2. I am so determined to get to goal I was willing to do everything and anything to get those pesky few pounds off. I am sure we have found the right place, Dr Michael’s way. Do you write a list of what you eat on your non fasting days? I do but I do not work out the calories, it’s just to keep an eye on it, it could be what your are eating not how much. Good night all. If there is any other 5-2ers out there. Onwards and downwards. JIP
Hi sgj53,
Yes I find I do things out of habit, though I though it was my evil twin putting milk in my black coffee on fast days! I always drink my tea black but have milk in coffee so as soon as I smell coffee I have to make a conscious decision not to go to the fridge for milk. Might be safest for me to stick to tea on fast days.
So now I need to boil the kettle for another cup of tea – fast day today instead of Thursday. I love how this way of living can be so flexible to fit in with unpredictable life.
