  • Hi JIP!

Well I have been off into my cupboard of awards and I have found this one especially for you!

So I now hereby award you the…….drum roll please!

    WONDERFUL WEIGHT WATCHERS HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
    FOR GETTING TO GOAL!!!!!
(ably aided and abetted by the FAST DIET!!! )

    Bloody Well Done JIP!

You now have to give us an acceptance speech! It’s okay though if you have gone to bed….tomorrow will do.

I hope you are going to chill out a bit more now and stop giving us Gyp JIP!

I hope too; all our LOACA’s will congratulate you on your unique achievement!

    BooBooxx

Hello All Ladies Of A Certain Age!

I am sorry to be so long responding to some of your posts; I‘m still trying to catch up on here.

Hi NickyF – I’m glad that you manage to find some time to post on here Nicky especially when you are busy with many other things.
And you ’make’ bread for lunch! Lordy, if I did that it would all disappear with a ton of nice cold butter. The smell of fresh bread is one of life’s temptations that I find impossible to resist.
Having said that, we just bought ourselves a bread maker last Saturday; we thought we could make some only for weekends as a treat.

Well done on your over 1lb weight loss! And 40k steps takes you into the same league as JIP our Welsh Happy Bunny. Not bad Nicky; you seem to be getting there in a steady sensible way.

And at long last Hi vicki!

Wow vicki – well done you for managing to maintain a 21kg weight loss! I am very impressed. How long did that take you again?

When you say; ‘not very serious fasting’ in order to maintain – what do you mean exactly? I am always trying to get the lucky LOACA’s who have achieved their goal weight to let us know how they are managing not to gain weight back again. Some who have posted still have to fast twice a week in order to be more flexible other days.
You make it sound as if it is plain sailing for you but we all know by now, just how different we all are. Mind you, your gym routine will have a fair bit to do with your maintenance and improvement in your health!

As you say the really important changes you have brought about are your medical tests; they are incredibly impressive Vicki.
No wonder you feel great! Go Girl!

Must go now – Be Good
    ONwards and Downwards Ladies!

I’ve just done my second week’s weigh-in and can’t believe I’ve lost 4lbs! That’s 9 in all – the Fast Beach Diet may be strict, but by God it works! On all the diets I’ve been on in my life, I’ve never lost so much so soon. I’m sure it will slow up, which is fine, but this has given me terrific incentive to carry on.

Thanks for the warm welcome, BooBoo!

I feel incredibly positive about this WOE, and seem to be dealing with the head stuff better than I have in a long time. I’m amazed that I’m relishing the hunger pangs – I’ve always been terrified of being in the least bit hungry and head straight for the fridge (for a low carb snack of course), usually at 5.30pm when I get in from work. Must learn not to weigh daily (1.8lbs after first fast day on Monday, 0.8lbs up this morning 🙁 )

Very happy to be part of the LOACA waggon. Onwards and very downwards!

Blimey Smiffy – way to go! *does a high five*

When I started Low Carbing 6 years ago I lost 5lbs in the first 2 weeks and was astounded but then had to deal with losing an average of 2lbs a month!

Also good to remember that 5:2 isn’t just about weight loss – there are huge health benefits and we’ll hopefully live longer, healthier lives as a result!

    Keep going!

Thanks very much Metchick. It will be interesting to see how it goes from here. As you rightly say, even if the weight loss slows up, it will be worth it for the health benefits. These days, I’m as concerned about those as the vanity side – ‘though it’s a great feeling that the size 18 jeans are getting very loose….! Good luck with your own FD. If you can avoid the daily weighing, I’m sure that will help x

    PreciousBooBoo,
Thank you PreciousBooBoo and fellow followers of 5-2.
I would like to thank Boo for her wonderful thread and I can honestly say without her dedication and all the lovely threads from all of you I would not be sitting (standing) here with this wonderful trophy. I should also mention my husband who keeps hiding the rum from me and dutifully retieves it for me when I want to drown my sorrows or celebrates my achievements. Also Dr Micheal Mosley without him we all would not be here. Thank you, tears;;;;;;;;;; 🙂 ;;;; 🙂 JIP

Fantastic JIPWGP! An inspiration to us all!

Bravo JIPWGP and thanks for reminding me to have a glass of wine… fasting tomorrow so no wine then.

hi i am aged 53 5ft 3 and menopausal. started this diet february 2013 having read mm’s book and kate harrison’s fast 5 2 diet book. i got to goal of 2 stone loss in july and have lost 3 stone in weight now so maintaining. i had high cholesterol and was a weight of 12 stone 8lbs. now i am in the range of 8 stone 8 to 8 stone 13 and maintain with 1 fast day a week and 2 if i have had a holiday. my cholesterol is down i have more energy and love exercisee. my menopausal flushes are almost non existant now. i have read fast exercise and do 2-3 hiit sessions a week either with weights, kettlebells, or walking or runnng. i lost weight at 2lbs a week and the odd 3lb a week if i had upped my exercise.

    Hi Buckslady!

Wow, an amazing testimony to the benefits of 5:2 and HIIT – what an inspiration!

Gosh Buckslady, that’s brilliant! Were you into exercise before you lost weight? I must admit the only exercise I really enjoy, apart from long walks with the dogs, is swimming, and I’m quite a way from the nearest pool. Also, I’m not over keen to display large areas of cellulite in public at the moment! I’m hoping it will become less apparent when I’ve lost a significant amount of weight.

Hi smithy, have you got a lots to lose, only tell us if you do not mind. Thanks. JIP

Sorry smiffy, I got your name wrong.
Thank you, I am staying around on these boards because I want to keep to goal and just under if I can. And it’s fun hearing everyone’s comments.
    Happy fasting. JIP

    Hi JIP

It’s always great to be encouraged by people who have reached their goal….and I guess we can help to keep you on track!

Hi JIP! And all our LOACA’s!

HaHaHa JIP – Thank you for your wonderful acceptance speech; as usual you made me laugh. It’s a well deserved trophy and I am delighted to be able to award it to you.

You haven’t told us if you are going to chill out a bit now though?
I’ve noticed that you are a part of the new thread on maintaining which is a great idea. As you may have noticed, I have tried without much success to get our LOACA’s, who have achieved their desired weight loss, to stay on here and tell us how they are managing to do it.

But sadly that has been largely been to no avail, until now because I sincerely hope that you are going to stay on here with us to tell us how you are going to stay in and around your GOAL but also because I, and I’m sure everyone else, would miss your funny and encouraging posts.

    Boobooxx

Also; I asked you about your Nordic Walking back a bit!

Good afternoon BooBoo, but it’s not a good one the raining is coming down nicely as my hubby says.
I am enjoying Nordic walking only the one lesson last Monday, they supply the sticks (that is away they call them) 50p a week and a nice cup of coffee in a cafe after. I will finish this later BooBoo got a Doc appointment 4.10 pm. JIP
Here I go running again. LOL.

    Hi smiffy

Wow, you are right that is a fantastic start! And even if it doesn’t continue like that, which it probably won’t, as you say the important thing is; it’s given you a huge incentive to keep on with it.

I definitely wasn’t going to purchase the fast beach book but it was in the library yesterday so I thought I would have a read to see what the essential difference is between that and the original FD.

    Enjoy those looser jeans!
    ONwards and Downwards!
    BooBooxx

Hi buckslady and Welcome to this thread!

Thank you for coming on here and telling us about how well you have done on the fast diet. Not only do I really appreciate hearing about someone like you who has been there, done that and is successfully maintaining but I know for sure, that all our newer members will be hugely motivated to hear your kind of success story.

I think you are quite rare in that you were able to maintain such a consistent and considerable loss every week and it would seem that you are also fairly unusual, in that you can maintain on only one fast day a week. Do you have any particular hints and tips that you could give us on how you find it so simple to maintain?

You must have a good metabolic rate to start with, no doubt helped along by your exercise regime. So really you have lost and kept off four stones!
That is fantastic and most importantly, you have quantifiable evidence that your health has improved.

Michael Mosley should have you as one of his text book cases!
    Well done you!

Onwards and Straightwards for you alas not us – yet!
    BooBooxx

    Hi BooBoo
    http://www.learntonordicwalk.co.uk/
I have read that you use 40% more muscle and all different one too. Hopefully it will be good for upper body too.
The walk is on a bicycle track and it’s for 1 hour, there are other groups about 10 miles away and this one was about 15 miles but as you know my bus service is very good and I do have a bus pass, we do not pay in Wales.
I will not be going far, I will let myself have a day or two with out counting calories but not going too mad. I will B2B sun/min still and if feel it slipping I will do another FD. It’s 3 years in July I got to WW’s goal and with you lot and WW I feel in control. With all my walking and do not for get the trampoline I can do this.
Congrts on 2000 threads I am glad I got into these.
Andy Murray as just started playing Tennis so I must finish again. Sorry. Go ladies go. JIP

Hi JIPWGP & BooBoo. Ideally, I’ve got around 3.5 st more to lose. This would bring me down to 10 st. I’m 5’5″. I was between 9 and 10 st on my 20s, and I dieted down to 9 st again in my mid-thirties. I felt wonderful but it was very hard to maintain. Also, at 63 I think I could look rather scrawny if I get too low now! After all my years of yo yo dieting, I would be delighted just to get to 11 st! We shall see…….in the meantime I have a more immediate problem. I’m away to Scotland for 4 days next week and am very worried about how I’m going to manage it diet wise. I will be staying with some lovely people, but I know they love their food and wine! She is a great cook, I don’t know what to do, other than fast the day before I go and the day after I come back, with perhaps an extra fast day the following week.

Re the Fast Beach Diet BooBoo, I downloaded the app not realising how much stricter it is from the original 5:2, which I really didn’t know much about. I thought, like a lot of people, that you had to completely starve 2 days a week! I just liked the name ‘Beach Diet’ as we are in the process of buying a holiday home by the sea and I really didn’t want to be seen in a new neighbourhood in huge baggy shorts! I use the app in conjunction with myfitnesspal for working out the calories. One thing you do have to do is be aware of your calorie intake even on non-fasting days. As I’ve got enough low-calorie cookbooks to sink a battleship, I have so far been able to have some nice meals. It’s a 6 week plan, and it’s then recommended you go back to the original 5:2, so I decided I could probably survive 6 weeks of strict calorie counting. So far so good!

    Hi smiffy

Regarding your impending holiday; I would definitely fast the day before and the day after you come back. It will kind of set you up for your break and can help with having smaller portions too.

Personally, unless you are going to tell your hosts what you are now doing; I wouldn’t make a fuss about wanting to eat less or the lower calorie stuff. Just eat less and say you are full; though obviously you won’t want to offend your hosts.

This, I feel, is one of the best things about the regular fast diet; it allows you to live your life and whatever is going on it, for 5 days of the week. Or if you are going on a proper holiday of a week or two; you enjoy them and get home and get back on the wagon. It’s not like a 24/7 diet where if you ‘go off’ then you have blown your diet.

I definitely won’t be doing the fast beach diet; I know it will be too hard core for me. I just wanted to read what their rational was on how this differs; also to see if there is any longer term evidence of it’s results.

    ONwards and Downwards!
    BooBooxx

Jip, you are a rock star! Congratulations and go do something nice for yourself. Jean

I failed to ask — Boo, is your health almost back to normal? The only nice thing about having a cold / virus / sinus infection is that you shouldn’t have another one for a while. Take care.

    Hello to all – Jean

You’re right Boo – I certainly won’t be telling them I’m on this diet. It’s not actually a holiday – I’m a florist and I’ve been asked to do some flowers for a wedding, so thankfully there won’t be time for lunches out etc and I will need a clear head, so no (or very little) wine! I realise the Beach Diet isn’t for everyone, but at the moment it suits, so as long as I and my other half stay in this frame of mind, we will see it through.

Hi Smiffy, I think I told you I lost 56 lb. but if you go to my profile by just holding down on my JIPWGP to the left you can read it all. I do not want to bore everyone again with my journey. I wish you luck but you will not need it just these boards and these very committed 5-2ers. I like walking and when I first started I walked to my ww class in my village which was about 10 minutes away from my home, but I took the long way round and walked for 30 to 40 mins. I still go WW class but now I do a morning class and it’s about 6 miles so I take the bus and get off a few stops early. I think I was so determined because I put my photos on my computer when I got back from a cruice February 2010 and I was enormous, if I did not look old, people would have thought I was a pregnant 64 year old. LOL. We can do this together. Onwards and downwards as BooBoo says. JIP

    Hi Smiffy and BooBoo
I go to my my brother-in-laws once every other month alternative visits, my sister is a great cook and I cannot resist anything she puts in front of me it’s usually a 4 course meal. We have drinks first and then sit at the dinning table from about 8 pm and we can still be still be sitting there at midnight, then it’s more coffe and a bailey’s to finish off the evening. we walk home it’s about a mile and a quarter all down hill. LOL
anyway it was an awful long way round to tell you that on this day always a (Friday ). I have fruit for breakfast and WW’s soup for lunch 88 calories. Then I fast the next day. Again Monday. Sorry got to go again, I do not wNt lose all this by leaving it. good night all. JIp

You’ve done wonderfully well JIPWGP. Your bi-monthly visits to your sister and brother in law sound fantastic and you’ve obviously coped very well. It’s so easy to fall off the wagon after a good night out, but you’ve obviously been able to get back on track. I’m out for a Thai meal tomorrow night and think I will follow your example and have my usual fasting day breakfast and snack lunch, with a complete fasting day on Friday. I will then have to fit in another over the weekend ready for my trip to Scotland on Monday. Happy days!

Good morning all from the wintry antipodes.

Precious, thank you for your encouragement to me and all our fellow LOACAs. I hope you’re feeling better.

Congratulations on the 2000 post milestone – a significant achievement illustrating firstly how relevant the IF WOL is to a large group of women but also and probably more importantly, how positively you respond to everyone who posts here.

I have had another frantic 3-day work week. I have been teaching 2 modules in the Certificate III in Horticulture (the trade qualification in Australia for gardeners) with one on Tuesday evenings 6-9pm and the other on Wednesdays 9am-3.30pm and the rest of the time preparing, including rushing around the Adelaide Botanic Garden collecting plant specimens. Fortunately only 2 weeks to go.

The plus side is my Mon-Tues B2B have almost passed without notice and yesterday morning rewarded with another 0.8kg and 2cm from my waist gone. Still a long way to go but I’m focussing on being like the tortoise and will win the race eventually.

Well done everyone on weight loss, fast or slow. JIP I’m so happy for you – a significant achievement. How pleased you must be!

To all my fellow travellers on the LOACA wagon: keep the faith and our goals will be achieved.

    Nicky xxx

Just arrived home from our latest jaunt. Congratulations JIP. You have equalled my weight loss. No mean feat. We must be healthier for it!
As regards holidays… I am 1kg heavier, but with fasting today and maybe Saturday I know I will lose it again.
We had a fabulous time touring around wine growing regions, not skimping with food or wine tasting, but as we are both so much lighter we seem to automatically eat less. Had great fun paddling a canoe and doing plenty of bushwalking too.
Just awaiting the deliveries of the boxes of fine wines we purchased!
You can holiday, enjoy yourself and maintain the weight loss if you strictly keep to under 400 cal two days a week during the rest of the year.
Don’t skimp on flavour, just calories.
Keep up the good work JIP, Precious and all your devoted followers.
    Your skinny mate, PVE

    Hello BooBoo and LOACA.
I have just done all my message and I lost it!!!!!!!!!
Bet I have forgotten what I wanted to say now, letting you all off lightly. LOL
No bowls today been called off they could not raise a team so we claim the points.
So guess what I am fasting, going to in-laws Friday so I will fast until 7pm again tomorrow. Drinks are going to go straight to my head. LOL. as it usually dose anyway.
Thanks you all for the kind messages, who would think 5,6, or 7 lbs could get me so worked up. I must be careful not to put it back on by Tuesday my WW day. That is why I want another 4 or 5 lb if I can but I thinks it’s coming off an ounce at a time in my case. I don’t think I was suppose to be a twiggy, I’m more the Marilyn Monroe type. LOL. I should be so lucky. Well the weather in South Wales is wonderful so I am going into the garden, only had an orange so going well. Happy fasting. JIP

    Hello everybody:

I couldn’t find the scales! Can you believe? Just when I had decided to weigh myself, it appears my husband hid them! I will see if he can tell where they are by tonight.

Anyway, I have noticed that my clothes are looser and I am not as hungry as I used to be. However, with the hot weather, down here (I live in Seville, Spain) ice-cream is a huge temptation. And I fell for it yesterday and the day before yesterday, though always within my 1,800 calorie a day limit. But once the craving is over, I am fine and I can survive without something I really enjoy for a couple of weeks. When I am really desperate I have a can of diet coke, but never more than 2 a day and only if I am fasting.

I know one can eat normally on non-fasting days, but when I started counting the calories I was eating I was shocked! I had never realised that a lindor chocolate ball had 80 calories (I haven’t eaten any chocolate for the past 2 weeks!) or that 150g of avocado are 275 calories! Or that a tablespoon of olive oil is 99 calories! My goodness!

I love fresh vegetables and fruit, however I need good ideas for dressings, I am rather bored of olive oil, vinegar and salt. I don’t like yogurt dressing, nor am I ready to trade olive oil for any other type of vegetable oil.

Is fizzy water with a slice of lemon a good option to fill up an empty stomach on fasting days??

Congratulations to all the high achievers. It makes me want to go on….

    Best, 🙂 🙂 IOUB

Hi PVE and co, sounds like a smashing holiday, But I don’t drink wine only Lambrusco and Lambrenee it’s known as glorified pop. Now if it was rum makers it would be right up my street. I will be careful, we will keep the faith Dr M’s and Mimi’s 5-2’s. LOL
    JIP

    Hi iouabook

I always drink fizzy water which is sugar free on fasting days, particularly when my tummy groans! I also love Lindor chocolate balls but luckily only eat them occasionally. I have just spent the day walking around the South of England show with our school. We entered a Winnie the Pooh themed garden, every child in school helped and we came equal first! Hopefully it has been good exercise, fasting day tomorrow. X

Hello All Ladies Of A Certain Age!

It’s some very short posts from me tonight. We have decided to go home for the weekend at short notice so it has been a bit of a rush to get sorted!
I hope you will all keep chatting to each other in my absence or the thread will grind to a halt! Don’t let that happen!

    ONwards and Downwards Ladies!
    BooBooxx

    Hi JeanDee

Yes thank you; my cold seems to be on it’s way out, thank goodness, or we wouldn’t be going away for the weekend.
How are things with you? Aren’t you going on holiday shortly?

    BooBooxx

Hi Smiffy – Have a nice time away in Bonny Scotland; hope you manage to get some days where it doesn’t rain! Especially not for the bridal couple!

    BooBooxx

    Hi Purple Vegie Eater

Your latest holiday sounds lovely as usual PVE! Especially the boxes of fine wine that are winging their way to you and hubby!
    Cheers!

    BooBooxx

    Hi AliH61

Congratulations on your school coming equal first in the South of England Show! I bet the children were delighted. I still love Pooh!

    BooBooxx

    Wow iouabook

You live in Seville; how absolutely divine. Re-your love of ice cream; we have just bought ourselves a machine that makes ‘ice cream’ like desserts from frozen bananas. Haven’t had the chance to try it yet but apparently it tastes great and you can experiment. Google it.

    BooBooxx

    Hi NickyF

You do leave me kind messages and I do appreciate them very much. My pesky cold is on it’s way out; thank goodness as we are treating ourselves to a weekend back home.

Well done you on another 1lb this week! That is quite a weekly weight loss for women in and around our ages. I’m with you on the tortoise winning the race but I’m an even slower tortoise than you!

Have you gone through any significant milestones yet? In kgs or stones?
(Forgive me Nicky for not being able to remember everyone’s details; I’d have to trawl back otherwise and sometimes do! )
Be sure and let us know. Also do you treat yourself when you get to a significant point? It helps to break up the bigger picture to make small goals.

Keep up all your good work!
    BooBooxx

    Hi Marilyn Monroe!

No sorry I mean JIP! – Have a fantastic time at your in-laws tomorrow night celebrating reaching your GOAL!! Have a few rum and cokes for me! As you say, you can always fast in the next few days to get any pesky increase away.

Now I’m going to leave you as my deputy JIP for the thread for this weekend (if you are about that is! If you are abroad, so to speak, then whatever!).

    ONwards and Downwards!
(That will be you and hubby barrelling down the hill home tomorrow night!)
    BooBooxx

    Hi piper

We haven’t heard from you much lately. Are you really, really busy?

I like having you around and miss you when you don’t post.

    BooBooxx

    Hi everyone

Precious – hope you enjoy your weekend at home – is it far from where you live?

In answer to your question, haven’t cracked any significant milestones by anyone else’s standards but I was very pleased to see the scales showing I had finally entered the 83 kg (+ 0.8)zone but also that my BMI is now 31.4, down a two full points since I calculated last time.

Public Holiday for Queen’s birthday here (yes, I know, her birthday is in April) so may only be able to manage 1 fast day next week, will see how I feel on Wednesday but usually quite tired after the first day and have weight training on Wed after work.

    keep well ladies!

Have a great weekend “home” Precious and get over the cold completely. We’ll all mind the fort while you enjoy yourself Remember to eat and drink well. Eat now, fast tomorrow! You deserve it.
Down here winter is just starting to set in and I can hear the coughing, sneezing and wheezing all around me on the trains. Urrgghhhh. At least our winters are relatively mild and short. Can’t wait for spring, but will enjoy that liquor I bought to keep me warm.
JIP, there were a few distilleries we visited, but I am more of a wine girl so left the tasting of the hard stuff to the old man. He did overdo it a couple of times! Tried a variety of ciders too (and I know how bad they are for the waistline.) As to Marilyn Munroe….I found the weight fell off my boobs and hips first, leaving me with the flabby tum. It is finally shrivelling away, but I do miss my fat girl cleavage.
    Cheers all
    PVE

    Hi PVE

I don’t drink but also find refined carbs of any sort are disastrous for my waistline. As for fat girl cleavage – I’ll be very glad to get back to 12A (or maybe 12B) bras which I wore up until 20 years ago – isn’t that a confident statement? 🙂

I love autumn, winter and spring. We live in the Adelaide Hills where bushfire is an ever-present problem in summer so always glad to see the first autumn rains.

Have a good long weekend if Her Maj’s birthday applies where you live.

    Nicky xxx

Thanks. Yes, Queen’s Birthday here too. A bit odd when most of us would prefer a republic, but any excuse for a long weekend (even if it is going to rain the whole time)
    Lots of soup and cuddling!
    PVE

    Hi BooBoo

They were delighted, it was quite a stressful day taking 150 children to a show where there can be up to 20,000 people there in just one day. To top it all they were filmed and had their 5 seconds of fame on BBC South news last night! Well I did survive, fasting day to do just had my lovely Beauty Breakfast shake.

    Hi again PVE

Soup and cuddles sounds like an excellent recipe for physical and spiritual health!

This Dr recommends lots of both.

    Nicky xxx

hello, I am just starting this 5:2 diet, hopefully to lose 5 kilos that are creeping in on my 58 year old body….very excited to get healthier eating habits…wish me luck:)
