Good morning from Iowa!
audrey- thank you for the warm welcome, my cup of choice is coffee with cream, about half the time I can tolerate no sweetener, which is a pretty big step for me, the rest of the time I use sugar-free sweetener. Congrats on getting off your pain meds, that is huge.
itwhat- I do feel amazing, having lost a bunch of weight already. I only have one pair of jeans that fit, and so many times almost gave them away thinking I would never be able to wear them again. 50 lbs, even on a tall girl like me (5’11”) is very noticeable, especially to people who don’t see me everyday, so I get a lot of questions about what my diet is. The hard part is that what I started out doing is not exactly what I am doing now, we all make adjustments as we go, and that’s what has brought me to 5:2, pretty complicated to try to explain 2 unconventional ways of eating, lchf and 5:2 fast diet.
I do want to share that I also love to bake bread. Had two loaves in the oven last night, german rye for my hubby, and oatmeal rolls for my kids. I don’t eat it, but trying to get my family away from as much processed food as I can.
cinque- Hi, I started last summer on lchf. My hubby and daughter were off to a softball tournament, and I just took the opportunity to drastically change the way I ate. Had a bit of what they call keto-flu, which lasted about a week. I lost the first 30 pretty easily in about 4 months. Around Thanksgiving (late November here), I hit a stall, and started tweaking my diet. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas I lost, but more slowly. I was okay with that, managed through the holidays without a severe set-back. I also discovered Dr. Jason Fung’s blog, which eventually led me here. Dr. Fung is a big proponent of fasting for weight loss, and resolving diabetes and pre-diabetes. I love his blog posts and his videos, very good on the science of what we are all doing.
I am still using lchf with my fasting protocol, hence the no bread π but when I get to maintenance, I may fiddle just a bit with that too.
You are an Aussie! My oldest child is in NZ, so far from home! She is having a ball, loves the southern hemisphere, and I hope to visit her there next year.
PatriPer- I read that you played softball, that’s what my daughter is doing in NZ! It has given her the opportunity to travel and see the world, and make so many good friends! My middle child is also a softball player, also a catcher. I hate to hear about injuries, but glad you have mostly recovered from yours. You also share a passion of mine with soup!! I am a good cook, but soup might be my best thing. I am adapting most of my recipes to low carb, but I love hearing of new recipes and flavors that appear here.
Morning Lucy
I am 5 ft 2 and have lost 30 lbs not as much as you but it shows on me too. I still have to lose a lot more before I get into the healthy bmi range. …
I did have a blip over Xmas and put 10 lbs back on but it is hopefully on its way back off now. .. I can’t wait to reach maintenence but at the same time I am worried about keeping it off.
I am glad you found us, it’s good to get to virtually meet people who you would never meet in real life. The ladies are great on here, very supportive I feel I have made sone good friends on my journey.
Have a great day keep in touch
Audrey
Good morning from Australia. I’m in Sydney with my daughter, her OH and my little granddaughter. But tomorrow I head home to Melbourne.
Things are very hectic now as my daughters family is moving back to Melbourne, so there is a lot of organising going on, and up and down to find house and job. They are back to Melbourne for their second baby later in the year, to be nearer family and friends.
How are you going with your second fast day in a row Restore Hope? It is fast day for me too.
I’ll do the Southern Hemisphere bridging Fast while you are overnighting Audrey.
My story is similar Lucy, but rather than Lchf I just cut out sugar, including fruit. But I made the deal with myself that I could eat whatever I wanted that didn’t have sugar, and for a while I craved a lot of chicken and chips, and other fried food. I found bought white bread and pastry effected me like sugar, but my homemade bread is fine. Hooray!
I lost about 20 kg quite quickly, and went from obese to just above normal. I wasn’t able to lose more until I tried 5:2. I am nicely in the normal range now, and just getting rid of the last flabs.
I used to be 5’4″ but measured myself the other day and I had lost an inch. That comes with being a lady of a certain age I guess!
Lucy your bread sounds just delicious.
And soups! Yum! I need to whip one up today as it is my fast day food.
Yes, I’ve worked hard to keep everything as unprocessed as possible. It is so much more delicious as well as healthier, often cheaper… But much more work!
Lovely work mostly though!
I’m another coffee drinker. I adore it, and my city, Melbourne, is famous for good coffee in the Italian tradition. I make it at home in a stovetop espresso and have it very strong with plenty of heated milk.
Well done your daughters! What an adventure for your daughter in NZ! I have never been there, but I have relatives there and all the rest of my family have been there.
Bye for now, we are in a cluster of fasts! Enjoy! πΏπ»πΏπ»πΏ
Sweet dreams Audrey, I love having a good meal before fast day. You will love having a nice empty tummy day to reset yourself!
I said hello from you to my Audrey (Rose Audrey). And we talked about what a lovely name Audrey is!
We took little Josephine Joy to the water park nearby. Perfect for a toddler who loves water, on a hot day! There was water running over different ground textures and big spurts of water rising up from a dozen places. All covered by shade. Josie had the best time! She ended up standing over the outlet where the water spurted from, yelling Bwaa Bwaa Bwaa Bwaa and then shrieking with delight when it came up again.
Tired us both out! Nap time! π΄π΄
We had snow; on a fast day :-(. Surprisingly I woke up this morning and weighed myself to be told that I had lost 5lb in just under a week after not losing anything last week. I think that weighing straight after my second fast day might have skewed the result a bit, but time will tell. If correct that would make it 13lb in just under 6 weeks. I have my specialist orthopedic surgeon appointment for my knee injury this evening and feeling ambiguous about that, well nervous at least and the prospect of maybe having to have surgery has been a motivating factor to lose weight.
Cinque,
What a lovely day you have had grandchildren are so precious. … I spent the evening before last playing games on the tablet with Thomas. It was a sort of candy crush type one but you built up strength swapping characters in order to gain enough power to “shoot” the bad guys. So granny swapped things to make groups and Thomas fired we made a formidable team and beat his high score….he was jumping up n down and we were high five ing…happy days…
Yardy I always find I lose more weight not the morning after a fast day but the day after that! I always find that strange.
My aunt came out for the meal with us last night and said I was obsessed with food and needed to take a break from counting everything and just eat what I fancied when I fancied it….. I said how do you think I got this big? However by measuring and logging everything and going back to basics I do feel more in charge and back on board…..it was nice to go out have a good meal and not panic. …Let’s hope the scales are nice on Saturday morning,
It is however forecasting more snow so may have to stay with mum for an extra day or two…
Keep in touch, my friends
Audrey
Good morning all, it’s good to read all the posts and catch up on what everyone’s been doing. Sounds like you had a great day with Josie, Cinque. I love her name, one of my all time favorites. I love watching kids play in the water like that. They get such a thrill. And another thing we have in common, I used to be 5’4″ as well. But I’m now down to 5’1.5″! Mostly due to the back injury and arthritis. And it’s great to hear that baby number two is on its way! Congratulations. πΆ
Lucy, I played softball from the time I was 8 until I hurt my back when I was in my 20s. I miss it. I never played on a travel team though. I don’t think there was such a thing when I was growing up. I also played volleyball and tennis in high school and college. I love being active. Now my favorite warm weather activities are biking and kayaking. Last year my daughter convinced me to try running. She started me on what’s called “couch to 5K”. I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it but I finally did manage to run 2 miles at one point and I was all set to run a 2 mile fun run with my granddaughter but things came up and I had to miss it. Never really got back to the running. Running is hard! π
Audrey, I know people like your aunt! They can be so discouraging. That’s why I have a hard time telling people about fasting. Even when they can see a difference in how I look they’re still negative and insist that I’m harming my health. Our culture has become so ingrained with this notion of eating three meals a day every day that to try anything different is considered crazy. I generally don’t talk about intermittent fasting unless someone asks what I’ve been doing to lose weight. And, like you, I feel more in charge of what I eat and when I eat and that feels good.
I did a 24 hour fast yesterday. I think it was the first time for that. Generally it’s more like 18 hours. I’ll be fasting again today but will eat supper with my granddaughters Caroline and Sylvie, who are 6 and 7. I think little girls need good models for healthy eating. And I enjoy eating with them. Their other grandma has diabetes and very unhealthy eating habits. The girls are aware of that and understand the importance of healthy eating. Thursdays I pick them up from school, take them to piano lessons, give them supper, and get them to bed as both parents work late. It’s my favorite day! π
Have a good one everyone! Patty
Home again, arrived quite late last night. Had a good time and although my friends eat heartily I did try not to overindulge and I did keep off the bread. Fell in the ditch on the way home as was very late, so picked up a Chinese. I am going to fast today so remainder is in fridge and I will not eat it. Famous last words??
Unfortunately I do find eating makes me hungry
I’m sorry your Aunt was so discouraging Audryg, some people, especially family, feel they have a right to make remarks which can be upsetting. Good for you in deflecting her with your remark, and closing the conversation.
You’ll laugh. When I got on the train just thought I’d check I was on the right one. don’t ask me why, I knew I was, there wasn’t another one. Said to a chap sitting there, Barcelona? he shook his head No. What?!!! Then he realised what I’d asked and Yes, Yes it’s the right one. Not good for the nerves.
Beautiful day, wish it would rain.
Have a lovely day. X
Hello everyone,
Yardy, what did the surgeon say? I hope she/he was impressed with your weight loss and optimistic about whether it may lead to you not needing surgery.
How is the snow?
Audrey I hope you are having a good day with your mum. And I hope you get home tomorrow.
I loved what you said to that aunt!
I’m looking forward to playing computer games with Josie!
Patty what a great role model you are for your granddaughters!
Itwhat you can have the rest of the Chinese after your fast day is finished! Keep strong!
Do you live in Barcelona? What a wonderful city! I was there for just one day (and night, a beautiful warm night!) when I was 21! Oh so long ago. We were on our way to Peniscola. I think I’ve remembered the name properly?
I’m back at home. Exhausted. Unwinding by doing nothing except trying to revive my poor garden, it’s a heatwave here.
Best wishes all! πππ
Good morning I had a very good fast this time but I was so hungry afterwards believe it or not my weak spot is Girl Scout cookies here in America I love those peanut butter Do si Dos so I have to get people to hide them from me because I will eat the whole box so I hope everybody had a good fast day this week and you all have a great weekend. I am a musician so have to sing this weekend and I play an instrument called the Qchord music is my therapy
Good morning all! Audrey, it’s nice you get to spend an extra day at your mum’s. Enjoy your day. Maybe more snow will come and keep you there again!
Restorehope, I know what you mean about Girl Scout cookies. They’re so good. My favorite are the Thin Mints. My sister in law made some cookies that taste exactly like them using Ritz crackers. I haven’t bought any in years since, like you, I find it hard to stop after eating just one.
I do try to be a good role model for the little girls. There’s so much in our culture that emphasizes looks and body over health. One of my sisters is always talking about her weight, her diet, calls herself fat, talks about others being fat, etc. She even one time said she wished she had an eating disorder so that she could lose weight. Often these remarks were made in front of the granddaughters. So my daughter politely asked her to stop. Talking about good health and nutrition are one thing but the rest of it needed to stop. She did stop, to the relief of all of us.
Well, off to work. Enjoy the day all. Patty
Hi Patty
yes our society is obsessed with weight and weight loss so I don’t even concentrate on losing weight anymore I basically just concentrate on having a good health feeling good, and eating as clean and whole foods without a lot of additives and chemicals added to my body and that’s about it I love doing my fasts and I don’t go crazy over exercising I exercise a little bit and that’s about it. My daughter in law is vegan and my son I think he has lost about 6 pounds within the last two weeks you know men lose weight so much faster so I just will not let the scale guide me as to how healthy I am.
Happy TGIF Day (formerly “Thank Goodness it’s Friday”, but now it’s “Thank Goodness it’s Fastday”! Restore and Patty, those Girl Scout cookies are the bomb, my favorite is like Patty, the Thin Mints. My hubby buys them, and I abstained this year, not one single thin mint passed my lips! I did, however, make blueberry scones for my kids to enjoy, and somehow found myself nibbling and nibbling on one of them. Decided to simply enjoy it and did just that. Happy to report that having just one, was enough, which means i didn’t completely fall off the wagon. So for a non fast day it still works, although for the low carb part of me, probably not the best. Today is a fast day though, so hopefully back on track π
Audrey- hope you have a nice snow day with your mum, we are sitting at 22 degrees F here in Iowa, but maybe close to 70 degrees on Monday, so woo hoo!
Patty- It’s so cool that you are such a big part of your grandkids’ lives, these are memories that they will cherish forever π
Cinque- Glad you made it home, safe and sound. What do you grow in your garden?
itwhat- Happy that you made it home safely too, is everyone traveling except me? Kudos to you for passing on the bread, even if you indulged on Chinese food. You would be worse off if you had both, so keep “cup half full” about it.
Off for my second cuppa. Thank Goodness it’s Fast Day!!
I am home safely,
After weighing, measuring, and logging every bit of food I ate this week, I have weighed in and am down 3.5 lbs. … back to pre xmas weight now….. hooray
Have a great weekend , we are off to set up the caravan some time over the weekend so will be out of touch for some of the time….
Audrey
Good morning all. It looks like it’s going to be a cold weekend here. We had some snow yesterday. I was surprised when I woke up and saw it. I love winter and snow but since we didn’t really have any snow this winter I’m ready for spring. Don’t like the thought of a late winter starting up! βοΈ
Yesterday was my second full day of work since retiring in September and I was exhausted. I’m doing substitute teaching in the local schools. I love it! I get to choose when and where I work and I get to do something I love. Next week I have 2 days scheduled. 2 or 3 days a week is all I need.
Sounds like everyone’s doing well. Everyone’s home safe and sound. Cinque, I’m envious that you’re gardening right now. I’ll start my garden when spring comes around. I should actually start some plantings soon. I like flower gardens but I’m not very good with those. I’m better with the vegetable garden.
Great job Audrey, getting back to your pre-Christmas weight!π
Best get some coffee going. Have a good weekend all. Patty
A little envious of the posts I read this morning where the scale is turning a new decade. I am within a pound of doing that and am so impatient! Tbh, I woke up eager to weigh today because I had 3 FD this week and even with the blueberry scone I nibbled into oblivion on Wednesday, I knew I would be down. I did lose 2+ lbs this week so met that goal. Only 12 lbs from “normal” BMI!!!
5:2 has re-energized my weight loss. This community has already given me so much and it really does help to read how everyone else copes with life’s little hiccups and big events.
Patty, like you I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring. I like to grow tomatoes, cucumbers and jalapeΓ±os in my garden, but with my new little spiral cutter “thing” I might grow a zucchini or two as well. What veggies do you grow?
restore, that is the healthiest way to approach fasting. I actually can see where someone with OCD could take this to the extreme, having control over one’s appetite is a powerful thing.
audrey, pardon my ignorance, what is this “set up the caravan”. I’m thinking you are going camping, but not sure π
Oh, and welcome Bangkok!
Starting the weekend at a new low, happy happy happy
Hi Lucy,
We keep a caravan ( mobile home) on a site in Wales. The site closes down for 4 months over winter, so now it has re opened it is time to take all the food, bedding etc back, re connect the battery and gas and clean it up…. ready for our holiday next weekend. …we are going to stay for 10 nights coming home just before easter. ..
Hope this is clearer…. well done on your weight loss excellent news nearly normal bmi…..I can’t wait to get there but I am still a long way away…. bet you can’t either….
Audrey
Hi
I have been doing 5.2 for three weeks now. I’m 66 and 5ft, my TDEE is 1240 so my fast day limit is 300. My aim is to get my weight down to around 7.10 as my BMI at that weight will be just over 21.
I have one 200 cal meal in the evening on my FD as I like my tea and coffee with milk too much to go without π I fast on Monday and Wednesday
I have been dieting on and off for the last ten years. In the past I have lost weight each time by calory counting and logging everything into my fitness pal. I looked into doing 5.2 a couple of years ago but at the time I was taking medication for arthritis 3 times a day and had to take it with food, there was no way I could see to make 300 cals into 3 meals so I discounted it as a way for me to lose weight. I am no longer taking that medication so when I started dieting yet again in January I thought I would look into 5.2 again.
I have no idea exactly what my starting weight was as I spent two weeks eating 1000 cals a day before I stepped on the scales, my weight then was 9.12.
I too have a caravan that is on a seasonal site from April till the end of October however ours sits on our drive during the winter. One of my biggest problems weight wise is my habit of going into “holiday mode” whenever we are away in the van and indulging in to many pub lunches and fish and chip suppers.
My first test of wether I can stick to 5.2 while away in our van comes on the 18th as we are taking it to littlehampton for a week, our dogs both love getting the chance to run on the beach.
So far I have found 5.2 suits me, I did get very cold on both my FDs the first week but that no longer happens. I find it hard to eat up to my TDEE on Tuesday and Thursday as I am never very hungry the day after my fast.
Hopefully 5.2 will work for me not only to lose weight but also to maintain it for good.
Thanks Audrey
I used to sea saw between 8 and 8.12 stone before my hubby retired iat the beginning of 2011. We spent months touring in the van that year and by January 2012 my weight had shot up to 11.4. It took me a year to get back to 8 stone but I soon went back up to ten and since then I have never managed to diet long enough to get back under 9 stone.
I have my fingers crossed 5.2 will see me wave good bye to 9 stone for keeps π
Hello ladies. I read all the posts and welcome all the new girls.
I am in India now and before leaving on Friday early morning, I weighed myself ( normally I weigh on a Monday ) and my weight was coming down. I didn’t record it because I knew my diet will go to pots here. As I stepped into my house yesterday morning my mum said why are you looking so tired ? She seems to be in a mission to feed me in between her hospital visits and doctors appointments. Between her and my mother in law I will gain what I lost last week.
It is very hot here. I am jetlagged so I am up already. Yesterday was packed with lots of things. Today my plan is to relax with my mum after her hospital appointment.
It is good to read all the weight loss stories. Audrey well done to you.
Have fun ladies.
Good morning / night to you.
Beena
Hi Audrey, how fun to have a summer home to go and enjoy. I must have been English in a former life, cuz I just love fish and chips with malt vinegar. Oh, and scones! At some point (bucket list) I will have to try both across the pond, as you say.
The thought of being “normal” BMI is very motivating to me, not only to look better, but as someone with an arthritic knee that doesn’t ache anymore, and blood pressure that is not high anymore, and acid reflux that has disappeared, I intend to remind myself often where I was, and treat each fasting day and eating day with respect.
Hi Beena, I have read many of your previous posts, hope you are having a good visit with your family. I will be driving down to Texas in a couple weeks to see my dad, my sister, and her family.
Hi Stepping out, I’m pretty new here as well, but have felt very welcomed by this group of LOACA’s. Here’s to you and meeting your goals!
Hello from lovely Melbourne. The air is still cool (but warming up) and pigeons are cooing. Earlier, little parrots were being raucous, the tree out the front is blossoming, and it is parrot feast.
My garden is mostly in pots, but I have one of those metal garden bed things from Aldi, just over a metre square. It has revived very well once it got some water. Out the front I have parsley, rocket, nasturtiums and marigolds self seeding all over the place. I have a couple of tomatoes that are just giving me a few tomatoes, but I think I finally have the hang of them, and next year I will do better. I have a self sown pumpkin vine (butternut squash, we call them pumpkins here!) with one pumpkin on it! But it has provided good shade to the rest of the plants. I have rainbow chard, thyme, garlic, spring onions, a couple of strawberry plants and a parsnip! A miniature lemon tree and also a good luck pot of jade that is looking healthiest of all. It is all pretty higgledy piggledy, but nice.
That’s out the front door. At the back I have plants that need more shelter, along the path fence: mint, star jasmine, Japanese windflowers (the first flower out this morning!) sorrel, perennial spinach, aloevera and a curryleaf tree.
We have mild winters so the garden stays alive. I am looking forward to planting the Autumn things, as soon as this heatwave ends.
Well, I spent all my time writing that and now I had better get off and do other things. Glad to hear the good news and the plans for the future.
I hope that those of you who are in places where eating well is more difficult, and there are traditional yummy things to enjoy (India, caravan parks etc) that you can enjoy the best things about the food, but find ways to keep it so that you don’t overeat more than you want to.
Sending best wishes!
It is Thank God It’s Fastday here! My favourite cruisey Sunday fastday, except I have so much to do!!!!!
Hi cinque
I was reading your post and thinking…. How lovely it would be to have mild winters and see the garden still glowing and growing Then I realised just what I was thinking and remembered …. We had a mild winter right up to Xmas this year and flowers were blooming that should have been dormant and the grass was still growing and…….. Boy you should have heard us all moaning about still having to mow the lawns in winter. There is just no pleasing us. π
Hi lucylaw
Here in England when you travel round from camp site to camp site you find lots of them have a mobile fish and chip van that visits once a week, some even have one twice a week. First you hear it beeping its horn as it drives round the site letting you know it’s there and then about 15 minutes later the smell of cooking from the mobile van wafts over the site calling to you to come and eat. ππππ΄ π³
Evening cinque, good morning from the UK
Glad you have had a good fast day.
Ian has decided to go to the van on his own as it is rather cold here. It is mothers day here and although I have dropped several hints he has set off without giving me my presents or cards from the girls….I don’t know where he has put them. .. I just hope he rings before they do or I will have to thank them for presents that I don’t know what they are!
I am not too happy to say the least however I have had a good workout. …..
Talk again soon, have a good Sunday everyone
Audrey
Hello Audrey, best wishes for your Mothers Day, I hope it ended up all right.
Hmm, I wonder what you will give OH for husbands day? Got to work off that frustration somehow!
Best wishes to anyone else celebrating mothers Day ( we have ours in May)
πππππππππππππππππ
Glad you channeled those powerful feelings into a good work out!
Best wishes all you wonderful women of a certain age!
I’m heading off to get things done! (She says hopefully)
Good morning,
I thought I had sabotaged my efforts by over indulgence, but pleased to say no, everything as is. No gain. Yay. So fast day today and not having any food in the fridge (eaten it all) no temptation.
My biggest problem is as soon as I loose a miniscule amount of weight, I think, that’s easy,I can do it later and eat a cream bun- so to speak. This time I am determined as the benefits outweigh the cream buns and am fed up with being huge.
Do appreciate all your support, very motivating. Thank you. X
Hello all! Whew, a lot of posts to catch up on! Welcome to the thread, Stepping Out. I love this thread, so welcoming and supportive.
Lucylaw, I grow lots of tomatoes and peppers of all varieties. I make my own sauce with the tomatoes and I make pepper jelly with jalepenos. I pickle hungarian hots. I also grow beets, carrots, squash, lettuces, spinach, cucumbers, broccoli, horseradish, and onions. I lose quite a bit to rabbits and deer though. We also have two grape vines, and apple tree, a pear tree, and raspberry bushes. We used to have a huge garden and even grew popcorn, watermelon, and cantaloupe and a lot more of all the other vegetables. Here, though we don’t have good topsoil so everything’s in raised beds or in pots. And we grow a lot less of each veg. π
Happy Mothers day to you Audrey! We have ours in May, too.
Before kids my husband and I would go camping and fishing every single weekend. We had a truck with a cap on the back that served as our caravan. We set up camp along creeks or rivers and spent all day fishing and hiking. We camped a few times when the kids were little then got busy with other things like baseball and soccer with the kids and never got back into it. But the kids love the outdoors and go camping and hiking with their kids so it’s all good. Dennis suffers from arthritis in all his joints from a life of laying blocks and bricks so he’s not much of a camper any more. He does go out west to Montana with friends to hunt elk every now and again but that’s it. That’s some serious rough, backwoods kind of camping, no caravans or campers. They set up a canvas tent and stay in that the entire time.
I went snow tubing this weekend with my daughter, her two girls, and another young couple with their two boys. My son-in-law had to work so he wasn’t there. We went to a nearby ski resort and although we didn’t get much snow at all this year, they made snow at the resort. It was fun. Scary at first but I got used to it. The hills were long and steep. Generally we adults each took a kid, holding onto his or her tube as we sat in our own. They had a rope lift that hauled us back to the top each time. My youngest granddaughter, Sylvie, went down on her own one time and didn’t like that one bit. She says now that she’ll never go again. I’m surprised I didn’t wake up sore the next day with all the jostling and bumping on the hills! Afterwards we all went to my house for pizza, popcorn, and games. βοΈβοΈ
TGIFastday! I had a great weekend but it’s good to be back to normal again. I’m going to take it easy today. Tomorrow and Wednesday I have to work again. Today’s fast will help me get organized both physically and mentally to prepare. The classroom I’m working in this week is an autism support classroom so it’s going to be a challenge. I have a lot of experience with children with autism and am looking forward to the job, but a little bit apprehensive. In a classroom such as this there are children of various ages, levels, and needs. And the students don’t know me yet so it’s going to be a bit of a challenge.
Autism seems to be on the rise in USA, how about in UK and Australia? Has there been a rise there as well? Some people here believe there’s a connection between autism and vaccinations. Some believe diet has something to do with it. There’s lots of research to be done.
Well, best get busy getting things done around here so I can get to the gym. π Have a great week everyone.
Patty
Morning all
Fast day for me today, had a good workout on the treadmil so hoping to have a good loss again this week. ….
I finally got my mother’s day cards and presents so had a good evening. …
Off to van on Saturday so busy busy busy cooking freezing, washing and ironing….
Have a great week, sounds like you had a great time this weekend patty….
Audrey
Good morning friends on the journey, TGIFast Day! This will be the second week for my “new and improved” fasting schedule. (Fast on Monday and Tuesday, feed on Wednesday and Thursday, fast on Friday, weekend off.) I really liked doing it last week, leaves my weekend free to socialize, get two feed days in between each fasting time, and still get 3 fasting days each week.
Stepping out, the fish and chips van sounds delicious, I would love that! My parents took my sibs and I camping almost every weekend during the summers while I was growing up. Lots of fond memories of fishing, hiking and exploring, and spending time around a campfire. We also had a caravan (we call it motorhome).
Patty, your garden sounds lovely. Mine is also raised boxes, and each year I try to make the soil better with compost. OH has found a source for cow manure (oh joy) so we may use that when we turn it over for the first time this spring. I think I remember reading somewhere that manure still contains viable seeds, so we might be bringing unwanted grasses, etc. to the garden box? I don’t know, going to have to research that. My best garden product is by far my homemade salsa, with tomato/jalapeno/onion and spices. Someday would like to go bigger, but not enough space or time currently, with kids still in high school and playing spring and summer sports.
I was talking to a friend about how I am mentally so much sharper on my fasting days. She is an Emergency Room doctor, and she is worried that fasting would make her foggy during her shift. We all know that’s not how it works, but hard to convince someone otherwise if they don’t want to see it. I suggested that she give it a go, if she wants to, on one of her days off. It just occurred to me, I should have suggested she have food available, if she starts feeling foggy, just eat π
Can’t wait for the weather to warm so I can show off the trimmer me!! It has been many years since I was happy with my weight, and after starting last summer at 243 it will be nice to be down in the 180’s and 170’s. Have a good fasting day, or feeding day!
Hi all
I fear I have become a woman possessed π³
My hubby and I went to a caravan show at the end of Febuary, we go every year just to see what’s new in caravans and accessories.
He stopped at a stall demonstrating soup makers and after watching for a while and knowing I always make a low calorie soup when I’m on a diet he said ” you really ought to get one of those” so he bought it.
It’s been 9 days and so far I have made:-
Carrot and coriander
Butternut squash and sweet potatoe
Butternut squash and parsnip
Broccoli and couliflower
Cauliflower and leek
I haven’t found one I don’t like yet and they are all so low calorie and perfect for my FD π³
Previously I just used to make a large batch of cabbage soup and freeze it so I had several weeks supply.
I think I need helpπ¬
Hello all! I am a newbie here and posted just a general post earlier today, not realizing this wonderful thread existed. I hope you won’t mind me join you! I’m a yank (hope that’s ok), 53 years old, 5’5″, 180 pounds (82 kg), looking to eventually get to 135ish (60kg).
Have been doing the ADF, my fasting days are Mon-Wed-Fri, for three weeks. A bit disappointed with my loss so far (usually the first few weeks is when there is a nice starter loss), seems I’m essentially losing and gaining the same four pounds. I try to only weigh twice a week: Tuesday mornings and Saturday mornings. In my past lives I’ve had great success with low-carb eating, but after menopause I found it wasn’t working for me so I’m looking at the intermittent fasting!
I work from home and have a standing desk and a walking treadmill under it (I have had it for the last year and also, never lost an ounce, using it almost every day. So much for that myth! LoL!).
Anyway, it is always easier to get through the plateaus with company and I’m so hopeful for all of us! Rachel
Hi RQP
Welcome
I’m new too, only been doing 5.2 for a few weeks, there are folks on this thread from several different country’s and time lines π
I’m 66 and only 5ft tall my TDEE is a mere 1200 so on fast days my max calory intake is 300 no wonder I sruggled to lose weight on a 1100 calorie counted diet π
Ooh it’s getting spooky now….
A caravan snap, both 5’2″ snap, 2 dogs snap, 2 of everything snap….perhaps we were separated at birth? Hehe very much alike….your husband isn’t called ian is he? Because that really would be weird!
Going bed soon, very tired,
Welcome to RQP you will soon feel at home here, shout if you need any help….
Audrey
Hi Stepping! Thanks for your welcome! I can’t even imagine only 300 cals! I have enough trouble with 500! And yes, soups ROCK! I usually make them, but tonight I’ve got a Thai-style chicken noddle – I add my own freshly squeezed lime juice to it and it is YUMMY!! I have also found that there is a brand of organic corn crisps called, “Real Foods” Organic Corn Thins (with Sesame). They are low in cals but offer that satisfying crunch and are great with soups.
hugs, Rachel
Hello again! Went shopping today and bought some smaller pants! WooHoo! Love it.
Hello Rachel, welcome to the group. If by “yank” you mean you’re from US then you’re not alone. I’m an American, too. I love this group. Since beginning I’ve added UK and Australia to my bucket list of places to visit.
Stepping out, I’m envious! Yours soups sound soooo delicious! I love making soup, too. It’s perfect for a fast day.
It’s a fast day for me. I had a frittata with artichokes, tomato, and mozzarella cheese. Seasoned with some basil, fresh pepper, and sea salt. Very good. That’ll be my only meal today. I tried the liquids-only fasting at one point and couldn’t manage it. Lucylaw, like you I feel much more focused and alert on a fast day.
Had a very good workout this morning and am now off to walk the dog. It’s a beautiful sunny day, temps in the 60s. βοΈ

Hi Patty! Yup, I’m an American… currently in western MA – have lived and worked all over the world. Have worked with lots of Brits, Ozzies and Kiwis and LOVE them! So glad to find this thread!!
I admit that I like how I feel on the fasting days, too. Your frittata sounds marvelous! With some information on another part of this forum, I’ve discovered that my problem has been complicated by NOT paying enough attention to the non-fasting days. I’ll start that this week (week four) and see if that makes a difference. I’m a tad concerned because I have a business trip Wed morning through Friday evening and eating together is part of the travel/training. So I’m thinking of going completely fasting until dinner on Wednesday, then eat out with everyone and make it a big old salad, scant dressing. Then eat as little as I can on Friday at lunch and not worry about dinner (I’ll be on a plane home).
How do you all deal with issues around business meals?
cheers – Rachel
