  • Hi Guys
thought i would introduce myself, and I have a couple of questions!
So i’ve started my first fast day, and so far so good, had an apple at breakfast, and quorn fillet and brocolli at lunch and will be having the same for tea…. is that ok? as long as i stick within my 500 cals?Am i doing this right?

Another thing, do you limit your number of calories on non fasting days? my TDEE is 1531 but i think i would feel more comfortable eating around 1300….
any input would be appreciated as I don’t want to feel like i ‘failed’ at this .

Anyway hopefully will get to know some on you on our journeys 🙂 x

    hi and welcome Littlejen1983!!

sounds like you are doing everything right 🙂 re the non fast days cals it is recommended you consume the advised amount but if you don’t I wouldn’t worry too much,i know I don’t always consume mine, but as long as you loose then its good 🙂

keep going, and let us know how you are doing!! good luck on your journey as well 🙂 xx

    Hi from another newbie 🙂

I won’t give advice as I’m new too, but good luck with it 🙂

    Kits

Good luck to you too Kits 🙂
Starting to get hungry now, finish work in twenty mins then off out to take the dog for a walk! x

The TDEE amount is what is needed to maintain your weight – if you ate that every day. I try to shoot for 500 calories under my TDEE.

    Welcome to both of you!

I agree with Amy. You should eat ABOVE your BMR on feed days but BELOW your TDEE. How much below your TDEE is up to you, but the greater the deficit of calories the faster you will lose.

Alternatively, you can also try 4:3 from time to time.

I personally eat nothing on my fast days and save all my calories for one “big” meal in the evening. This keeps the fasting period longer.

One of the health benefits of 5:2 is the fasting! So the longer the period of time between food intakes the better.

    Best of luck
    Stef.

Hi from yet another newbie! This is the start of my third week so I, like Kits, don’t have much to offer but wanted to say hello and good luck as well!

    RVA

How did you get on with your first day littlejen?

Not too bad, although i felt totally done in by about 8pm! i found myself pacing around at home, so i made a light cake for today to bring to work as a reward!
    How is yours going? x

My first day was ok thanks, wasn’t hungry at the end but pretty tired, I slept like a log to the point where my husband had to wake me up as I was sleeping through my alarm!
I’m not sure my approach to eating was the best though for a fast day, in the daytime I had 4 kallo dark chocolate rice cakes, then in the evening fillet steak and salad with no dressing. Will switch to having a healthy and more filling lunch I think and try to not snack, rather than the rice cakes (much as I love them!). I didn’t wake up hungry either so that’s a win!
Have a great day, I hope it’s as sunny for you as it is for me 🙂 x

My first fast today doing okay but feeling very hungry at the moment. Might need some diet jelly soon
I went for a forty min walk today but have a foot problem so can not walk every day because feet get very sore and can not stand on them
I not sure how much exercise you need to do each day
Hope everyone had a good day
    Debbie

    Hello
am new here and just starting out today. good luck to others just starting too

    Hello,

I’m another newbie – I started a similar thread so thought I would jump on this one !!

I’m not sure whether to fast all day and have a ghalf decent meal or just eat little and more often. What does everyone else do? 🙂

I did little and often yesterday Rita, but I’m going to try nothing all day tomorrow and save all for my evening meal, I found myself hungry all day until after my decent evening meal, I think if I don’t start myself off by eating something, I will be able to last until the evening and then just feel full after my dinner. Lots of coffee, green/camomile tea and oodles of water all day, will let you know if that went any better on Thurs morning 🙂

I have followed this food plan since 1/31, so I have 17 fast days under my belt. Wow — that is a lot.

I don’t eat any food until from dinner the previous day until dinner on my fasting day.

However, over the course of the day, I drink lots of water (sometimes hot water as I get cold) and 2-3 cups coffee with a bit of almond milk added. (30 calories a cup).

I eat a dinner of about 400 calories and top the evening off with non-fat hot chocolate.

I always go to bed hungry, but am not hungry the next morning.

Drinking 8 liters of water seems to help me as well as waiting out the feelings of hunger.

Hi first day for me only found this site last night and jumped in at the deep end with a fast day but had a problem by 11am felt very sick and light headed is this normal i’ve ate a few little bits and feel better now I do have a medical condition of ulcerated colitis don’t know if that effects this program or not can anyone let me know? anyway I hope this works so good luck to all us newbies.

Hi Newbie, It’s an interesting question, will wait to see if people with experience share.

I went to check out pages on Ramadan fasting and Ulcerative Colitis…interesting. Some people feel it lessens the symptoms, one person said it put them into a long remission, others feel no better.

They do however make a point you might like to consider. In the Fast Diet book, advice is to prepare yourself for the fast day, especially the first time. Get your mind in the right place, motivate yourself, think it through so that you can deal with the experience calmly ad positively.

Religious fasting e.g. Ramadan is also like this, it’s not just a physical exercise. Muslims also spend quiet time in reflection as they fast, and avoid negativity such as gossiping or quarrels, the same goes for other religious fasts.

If your UC causes you to be underweight, then you shouldn’t be fasting at all, and if you have a medical condition (including, I’m sure, UC!) the Fast Diet book advice is to consult your doctor (go armed with information or you might get a knee-jerk anti response). And obviously the foods you eat on fast days or those that break the fast must be on your ok-to-eat list.

Why not get the book, go through it, do a bit more research and then try again when you’re feeling fully prepared? It’s typical of “fad diets” that people jump into them without changing their mindset, fail, feel horrible and then use that as an excuse to give up. Don’t let that happen to you…

I’ve done two days like that and both went well. Two or three hungry spells, that was all, easily ignored as I kept busy. Followed up with a 500 calorie light-eating day to make a back-to-back fast and get it over with.

I do worry that it might not be OK to go 24 hours without protein, but it really is easier for me not to bother with food at all, than to try and add up the calories. Anyone have an opinion on that?

Also drinking plenty including tea with some milk, though next time (tomorrow!) I think I’ll try herbal tea. Here in South Africa we have two fantastic herbal teas, Rooibos, and Honeybush. Both taste sweet without sugar and are said to be nutritious. We give our babies rooibos when they need extra fluid!
