  • Hello Fellow Fast Dieters!

I have just joined the Forum today and got stuck into my first day fast. It is 2pm now and I have had a coffee and a Optifast Vanilla shake. Must admit I am feeling a bit hungry but not too bad. Just keeping busy to not think about it too much.

I’ll be fasting on Monday’s and Thursday’s and will be having a midday and evening meal. I have a whopping 44kg to lose to get to my goal weight. Let’s see how we go!

    Cheers!

    Hi Selador & welcome!

Are those optifast shakes any good? I’ve never tried them & admittedly I prefer solid food but just interested to hear what you think…

I like the idea of Mondays & Thursdays for fasting too, breaks up the week nicely & leaves you with the weekend off.

Good luck & hope the rest of the day went well. Keep us updated!

    Hi LL,

    Thanks for your welcome note.

I got onto the Optifast shakes as my Dad was put on them by his doctor to lose weight for surgery. They are apparently the most nutritionally balanced shakes and specifically designed for a VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) for obese people. They are low in sugar too. My Dad is diabetic so that was important.

As for taste, well… they taste like cardboard, but they are convenient if you haven’t planned your fast day very well. So I am going to keep them on hand for those times.

    Cheers,
    Selador

You know the time will fly by if you have a good plan and stick to it. How many weeks of this diet have you done so far?

I don’t know how people can go with those cardboard flavoured things though as you say they serve a purpose. I love my healthy food too much. Here’s an idea for you to try sometime.

Yesterday for my fast day meal i had a fabulous lunch of 5 veg sauté. But i preferred the 4 veg sauté from the previous night even more. It included one medium potato (yes i know it freaks some people out), a zucchini, 1 beetroot, and 2 biggish mushrooms. I chopped the vegies into fairly big bite sized pieces then steamed the hard vegies while i started off the sautéing of the mushrooms in the frypan with 2tsp of olive oil and some garlic. When the steaming was just done, i tipped that lot into the pan with the mushrooms. Added a little salt and let them get coated with the olive oil and try to get a bit crusty. I tell you – fantastic!.

I don’t know what the calories for the potato one were but my one for my fast came to 290 calories and that included 3 tsp of olive oil. This is a filling dish and low GI so the satisfaction of it lasts long. I find steamed vegetables utterly boring so i avoid cooking them that way. But i do love my vegies more than ever now that i make the effort to make more interesting recipes with them.

Anyway good luck with your project.
