  • Hi folks.
    I’ve a couple of questions;
    How many calories are there in a bowl of porridge or cereal, bowl 6 inch (150mm) in diameter?
    Are you allowed to drink water on the fasting days?

    TIA

    Hello, can’t help you on the porridge calorie question, but you MUST keep hydrated on Fast days – plenty of fluids to make up for the water content of the food you are not eating, and the drinks you would normally have.

    If you can make do with water that is great, next best are calorie free drinks like herb teas, green tea, black coffee. Some people refuse to go without milk or cream in their tea and coffee if you go that route you must include these in your calorie allowance for the day. People also recommend having one slightly salty drink such as oxo or miso so that you don’t flush too much salts out of your system.

    You need to measure the oats before cooking them and look them up online. In the US, all foods have the calorie count on the package. Is this not true in your country?

    Same in UK. Alas oats are no longer in original packaging :/

    My oatmeal is 40 g before cooking and makes about 1.5 cups of oatmeal after I add 10 oz. of water. This is 150 calories.

    If you search on the internet for the brand of oats you purchased, the nutritional information is probably listed.
