  • Have just started this new way of eating – completed second fast day yesterday, not found it too difficult so hope I’m following the suggested guidance I’ve found on here correctly; ate supper on Sunday by 8pm, Monday was first fast day, had a light lunch at midday of 275cals (MFP) then nothing til supper at 6.30 to take me up to the 500. Tues I ate a later breakfast, & lunch & supper as normal – not too hungry either. Weds was next fast day, similar pattern to Monday. Fridays will be weigh-in/measurement day.
I have been a forum lurker for a week or so before starting this, to get the gist of it. Reading the book too. Although I’d like to lose some weight, especially round the middle, my main aim is try to minimise the chance of Alzheimer’s. My dad’s 2 sisters both succumbed to this & I’d like to all I can to reduce my risk.
My fast days will be moveable as I work shifts and will try to fast on work days; have decided consecutive fast days won’t work for me as I think I’d feel quite headachy after 2 long shifts on back-to-back 500 cals. Good wishes to those fasting today, & thanks for the inspiration found on this forum.

Hi Bexcetera the secret is to follow the principles of the 5:2 plan and adjust it to suit your needs. I did B2B fasting, back 2 back, on Monday/Tuesday this week for the first time – thought it would be hard but found it ok. Lost 3.5lbs! I always plan my fasting meals on a non fast day. Good luck, you’ll find plenty of help on here, lots of websites and apps for meals. Just remember plants and protein on fast days, good luck. Ali

Thanks Ali, I did a weight & measure session first thing today so will use that as a baseline – although I don’t think I have a lot to lose 5-7lbs would be nice, especially if my waist will shrink a bit! 3.5lbs is great, I’d be so delighted with that! I don’t eat a lot of carbs anyway as wheat-based stuff makes me feel bloated & uncomfortable. As well as my Alzheimer’s concerns I also have a parent with type 1 diabetes for over 60 years – I don’t think this predisposes me to type 2, but as I’m heading towards midlife I think I need to do all I can to reduce any risks and keep healthy 😉

I tend to base most of my meals around proteins and veg, not keen on potatoes, and don’t drink milk although cheese of any sort is my downfall and I eat natural live yoghurt & berries most days for breakfast. The fast days took some thinking about as don’t like low-fat yoghurt (full fat is delish & filling) so decided to forgo breakfast and just have lunch & supper, but yes have to plan it carefully. Thank goodness for MFP to scan & track stuff. I’m currently on hefty doses of antibiotics for an eye infection, and will be off on hols in a couple of weeks, but if I keep thinking about when is a good time to start this, there is never a good time as there is always some social thing or work event, or some excuse – when really I just need to get on with it! Perhaps when I’m a bit more in the swing I could give back to back fasting a go. How long have you been doing it? Does it come easily after a while? Bex
