  • Hi everyone,
I started 5:2 on Monday having read the book a few days before. I am a seasoned dieter and know that I have to be in the right frame of mind to start a new regime, so there I was on Sunday night tape measure in one hand and notebook (new!) in the other. Measurements taken and recorded, chicken carcass boiled up for chicken stock ready to turn into soup for my fast day dinner and off i went to bed feeling optimistic…

Skip forward 7 hours and I’m waking up with a fuzzy head. Fruit tea consumed, kids packed off to school, I head off to work still feeling optimistic and determined to stick with it. Mondays are always busy at work for me as I have a 3 day weekend so the day passed pretty quickly with the odd tummy rumble but i kept a glass of water on the go and kept the pangs at bay. The fuzzy head however turned into a full on headache which got progressively worse. I thought that maybe it was down to the fact that I was fasting – toxins leaving the body , dehydration etc etc but by 7pm i was tucked up in bed sick bowl by my side, thoughts of my chicken & vegetable soup far from my mind.

What are the chances of me picking up a stomach bug on the very same day I decide to fast for the first time?? Who knew you could be sick even though you haven’t eaten anything all day?

My kids were convinced I was ill because of the Fasting but even though I reassured them it wasn’t, I still felt a bit of trepidation going into day 2 this morning. I’m pleased to say sitting here now preparing for bed, I have managed to stick to the Fast without feeling hungry or any headaches.
I’m itching to see what the scales say but I dont want to get into the habit of being on and off the scales so i’m forcing myself to wait until Monday morning and stick with weighing only once a week.

The downside of being ill I suppose is that I won’t know if any weight loss on Monday is down to following the fast or down to the stomach bug. I guess i’ll have to stick with it a little longer before I’ll know the answer to that.

    Night all 🙂

    Hi Perkybubbles,

blimey what rotten luck coming down with a bug the first day you decide to do it!! That said there is a very nasty bug with headache and vomiting so I guess you were just extremely unlucky!!

Makes the fact you went for the second day even more of an achievement. Well done you.

Sometimes you can experience headaches with the fasting – for me it’s caffeine withdrawal, I’m a tea freak but don’t particularly like it black!

Hope your first weigh in goes well.

    Hilly66 xx

    Hi Hilly66,

Just weighed in for the first time this morning and both my other half and I have lost 3lbs each! 🙂

I have to say given the shaky start I wasnt expecting much but i’m really happy with the results. I too suffered a bit of a headache on day 2 but as you say I think that is down to the Caffeine withdrawal. I do find it tough not having quite so many brews but I just keep reminding myself it’s only until the end of the day.

How far into fasting are you and how have you found it on the whole?

    PerkyB

Congrats perkybubbles! 3lbs is great 🙂 Sorry to hear you had a rocky start, i hope you are feeling well now.
Like you i’m only trying to weigh myself once a week but am itching to see the results.

    Morning PerkyBubbles,

what a fabulous start, I bet you’re thrilled. Good on you and your other half. Now you can just keep going and you will get results.

I have just completed my 8th week of fasting, not sure how much i have lost in total because am on a pact with another forum friend not to weigh til 7th March. After 6 weeks I had lost 6.5lbs, so hopefully it’s a bit more by now 🙂

Like you I am a serial dieter but have never really managed to be in control!! Early days yet but I think Intermittent Fasting might actually work for me. The 2 days are hard but not impossible and the remaining days I can be normal, if I really want that piece of chocolate cake, I can have it, enjoy it and not feel guilty!! After these 2 months it does seem that my appetite has reduced, so you find that generally you don’t eat as much on the non fast days either.

Which days are you fasting this week?

    Fasting today me, eek!!

    xx

    Thanks Ladies 🙂
I know that you always loose more weight in the first week of any diet plan but I wasn’t expecting us to do so well with eating like we did for the 5 other days… I even had a Krispy Creme Doughnut and half an easter egg.

I’ve chosen Monday and Thursday to fast each week as it fits in best with work and the family. Like you Hilly66 I do find it tough but at the same time completely doable although I do find I’m in bed a lot earlier on fast days lol. I am sticking with getting weighed once a week and checking measurements once a month. It’s so easy to get obsessive about all this but I feel completely different about this ‘diet’ than anything else I’ve tried in the past… I think it’s less pressure. Not having to count everything passing your lips or having to get weighed in front of a class makes a whole heap of difference.

It’s my birthday next week so we’re planning to go out at the weekend and for the first time I’m not worried about blowing the diet because I know I’m in control 🙂

Let me know how you get on with your weigh in on Friday.
    xx

    Evening Perky,

definitely agree with low key approach on the recording progress – it means you see more results and helps to iron out some on those anomalies we all experience during the month.

Isn’t it great being able to enjoy yourself without feeling guilty, knowing full well that you’re the boss. Hope you go somewhere wonderful.

You’re a pisces like me, not that I really believe in such things but it’s kind of fun!!!

How did your Monday fast go?

I did Monday too and haven’t quite decided yet but probably tomorrow, as sad as I am I might a piece of scrummy cake at my monthly book club meeting.

    x

PS Am postponing my weigh in til Sunday, just because that’s my normal day, the others in the pact are weighing Friday.

    xx

    Hi Hilly

Monday was a lot better than the week before… well lets face it anything would be an improvement on last week!!
I made sure I had an egg for breakfast and had dinner planned out for when I got home from work. Still had a bit of a cloudy head by 4pm but I think thats down to not drinking enough, and I find I’m a lot more tired than usual but getting an early night stops me thinking about food.

Actually I was quite proud of myself – my other half tried tempting me with some Chocolate but I resisted. This time last year I was on Slimming World (lost 4stone but put 2 back on) and I would most definitely without a shadow of a doubt snatched his hand off for the chocolate then spent the rest of the week berating myself. This time I stuck it out and had a couple of pancakes today as a treat instead.

My next fast day is Thursday – If i stay organized I might get a soup made tomorrow for Thursdays dinner as we’ve got parents evening for my eldest. I just know if I don’t have anything to hand I’ll be grabbing at anything.

What book are you reading at your book club?

    PerkyB
    xx
p.s. We’re going to an All you can eat Buffet restaurant on Saturday and a cake has been ordered too so if I don’t lose this week I might have to do a 4:3 week instead.
