  • Hiya, I’m literally just starting out today after reading the book a couple of days ago.
    It’s going well!!
I’ve had a banana and 2 small apples. And for dinner I’m having some veggie sausages and peas. With jelly for pud.
Total calories 536! Very happy with that.
It’s only easy because I know I can eat normally tomorrow.
    Just wanted to say hello!

Hi vcat and welcome to the fast diet forum

It’s great that you’ve actually read the book; you’d be suprised at how many folk don’t bother. The book makes it very clear why this eating regime works for most people and I find, it helps people to stick with it (me!) even if sometimes you don’t get the results everyone else is.

But hell, this is your first day so we’ll wait and see how you do – good luck!

Hi V! Congrats on getting on the wagon with us. It’s a good wagon. I like it.

Keep going strong and keep us updated on how you’re doing, whether it’s good or bad!

Well this is going well! Had a non fast day yesterday and ended up having a sensible amount of calories. Today will be too and then my next fast day is Sunday.
I work shifts so the Sunday roast day isn’t an issue for me.
    I’ve lost 1 1/2lbs so far.

    Hi Vcat,

I’ma newbie myself, just saying hi. Your FD is obviously going well; 1.5 lbs so far, well done!

In my short 3 weeks, I have found that I like the Fast days so much, I’m also ending up being ‘sensible’ (as regards food, anyhow, lol) on the Feed days.
It’s Saturday.. it’s a Feed day, I’ve planned my day to have 1240 cals with no rubbish and it’s going well! (What is WRONG with me, lol)

Keep on with it and let is know how you get on?

    Aud x

Hi Aud, I’m the same! I’m eating so much better on my normal days too.
I think it’s because having done one fast day and been fine I know I don’t need to eat so much, and won’t pass out in a heap if I don’t, lol!
Pleased ur 3 weeks have gone well, well done!
    Vicki x

Hi, my name is Tanya and I’ve never been on a diet before, I just exercise and think that it works, but I guess with age that doesn’t work all the time. I hope to lose 7 kg

Good luck! Have u started it yet? X

Not yet tomorrow will bbe my first day I will let you know how it goes

I’ve lost another pound! Yay! I know it’s mainly water and will slow up next week but it’s such a great boost. I’ve only had one fasting day too. The rest of the time I’m just being a bit sensible.
    Second fast day today.
    I’m loving this plan!

Well done on starting! That truly is half the battle!

I’m on fast number four – it’s been an up and down road, learning what works (and what doesn’t), how best to approach the fast days. One thing I want to share is my fast day last Tuesday: It went amazingly… until 9 pm. Then I started eating everything in sight! Multiple feast days in two hours! BUT, I didn’t let it get to me. I decided I’d enjoy it and “there will be other fast days and I’ll do fine.” I learned a lot from that day too about what doesn’t work. Today, my fast is going very well.

This bit of wisdom coming from someone as neurotic as myself could sound hypocritical – but it is part of the learning curve. So try to forgive your own goof-ups (they’ll happen) and keep going.

    Best Wishes – Scott

Fast days get easier, believe me. My first fast days were hard but are now a breeze even with lots of exercise.
Scott-you should’ve gone to bed at 9! Hehe

Hello, I’ve just joined the forum, but I’ve been on the 5/2 diet for a few months now. I’m a short 40 year old lady from the UK.

I didn’t have much weight to lose, and I managed a steady 1lb a week loss (with the odd no change week) and I’m now just about at my target!!!!

I intend to carry on with the fast days, because there are so many other benefits than just weight loss.

My aim now is to exercise more (would like to feel fitter and tone up my thighs/bum) and improve the quality of the food I do eat.

My advice to anyone just starting is to stick to it, it will get easier!

I started a new job last week, and my first day happened to be my fast day (I fast on Mon and Wed), and I was worried I wouldn’t cope…But it all went well, none of my new work mates heard my stomach rumbling and I really enjoyed my evening meal when I got home.

lol – I think you’re on to something there!

Hi all, Ratty, lovely to hear your success story!
Scott great tip about not beating urself up about a bad day.
Well it’s the end of my second fast day. I’m still at work as I work til 10, and I can honestly say it’s been fine! Will go to bed pretty much when I get home. And I’ve only had 432 calories. So pleased!!!

    Nicely done vcat!!

And you too Ratty. It’s probably a bit too late to say “welcome to the diet” but I can still say welcome to the forum! Read, contribute, laugh, cry (okay it’s often not that dramatic) and encourage others.

    Hope to see you around!

Well done, vcat, hopefully you’ll see more pounds off very shortly x

Hi Ratty, welcome and gosh, well done on your steady loss – this is exactly what I hope to achieve, so your success is something to aspire to.

Scott ~ I stuffed up my Saturday night (admittedly it was a Feed day, but even so) 🙁 but then read your post yesterday morning and resolved to get back in the saddle. ‘Goof up’ sounds better than ‘OMG I’VE SO WRECKED IT ALL’, lol.

    Happy Monday, everyone!
    Aud x

Haha yeah that’s definitely true Aud. And guess what makes you “goof up” again and again, telling yourself it’s OK, or getting furious at yourself? 😉

As long as I don’t get furious with myself and then have to comfort eat for telling myself off, because that would just be so me.

Too many voices in my head. Particularly the one that wants me to eat the Blue Riband in the fridge, GO AWAY I TELL YOU! (lol)

Haha yeah that’s my downfall usually, I get mad at myself for not working out, or eating something bad or or… and then I just work out less and eat more for comfort. Or have a few drinks, not really the best solution usually.
Being mad at oneself is a weird habit that I’m trying to break!

Hi all, how’s everyone doing? I’ve had a few days off as my mother in law has been here. So been cooking and eating out too. I’ve only put on 1lb though so I’m pleased with that.
Going to have a fast day today and I’m really looking forward to it! Feel like I need a bit of a detox!!

    Hi vcat x
I know what you mean about needing a detox ~ many folk on the forum say they look *forward* to their fast days; it’s psychologically so important to take control, yes!
All the best with your next weigh-in

    Aud x

Thank you Aud. How are things with you?

Hmm yeah those detoxes are nice. Drinking tons of water helps with that! I kind of need one too, ate way too many bad things yesterday. But I’m going to continue through to next Sunday’s weigh-in, where I hope to reach another milestone in my weightloss journey thing!

    Hi vcat x

I’ve gained a pound (need to update my thread), so not happy but not wholly unexpected as I had a family dinner it was awkward to get out of – well, I think the perception was that *I* was being awkward, lol
Oh well, back in the saddle today!

Good luck this week for both of us ~

    Aud x

Good luck Nika and Aud! X

Hi vcat, yes it is a great idea to read the book first. I wasn’t going to bother but was advised on the forum to read it so I bought it off Ebay (with the recipe book too) & read it from cover to cover in 2 days. This whole concept is very relavent to me as I’ve just been told I have raised choleserol & glucose which is quite worrying. The doctor said losing about 14lb would be very beneficial. I’m 46 & the weight has crept on year by years! I would like to be nearer to 9st not 10st 7lb which I was when I started a month ago. I’ve lost 6lb so far since early Nov & am finding the 5:2 regime very manageable.

I tend to have nothing to eat from 7pm until 6pm on my fast day. I’ve stopped having a small breakfast/lunch as I was just eating for the sake of it & using up a calories that I’d rather have kept for a more substantial evening meal. Now I have all 450 calories in one meal plus water & around 2-3 cups of tea/coffee with semi-skimmed milk during the day (so the milk is counted in my calorie total).

Good luck to everyone embarking on this journey! Julie

Hey Julie! Good start for you! You’re almost halfway to losing what the doctor ordered.

I think having just one evening meal is a great idea, and a lot of people are needlessly munching tiny bits through the day, just for she sake of eating and the fear of being empty! But if you’ve been there, it’s actually a lot less scary than you might think.

Hi Julie, well done! I’ve lost 6lbs so far too.
I have tended to have an apple in the morning and then a meal in the evening- normally 350-400 calories.
I look forward to my fast days. Even on my non fast days I’m not eating so much. I didn’t even manage to get up to 1200 calories yesterday, even though I felt like I was eating normally.
    It’s so manageable isn’t it?
Ive got another 10lbs to lose ideally and want to be there by may as my parents are getting remarried. Definitely expecting to be able to do it.
Good luck to you too!! Xx

I think you are right Nika, I actually don’t feel hungry at all on my fast days which is a little worrying as you’re supposed to feel hungry! I managed to resist the pizza crusts my daughter left after her dinner normally I would have wolfed those down & tried to pretend they didn’t contain any calories lol.

Vcat that is great that you have lost 6lb too. I think once you realise how calorie laden carbs are ie bread, pasta & rice etc you naturally eat less of them. I had 1 slice of brown soda bread with my “mini” cooked breakfast today, 1 small sausage, 1 rasher of bacon, a few baked beaks & half a grilled tomato. I felt quite full all morning whereas I would have had 2 slices of bread normally out of habit. They come in at 100 calories a slice!

Wishing you all the best. Julie

Haha Julie that’s the thing, people THINK they’re supposed to feel hungry 😉 It’s what’s been told them their entire lives. So that’s what they expect.

I’m all for low carbs! ^^ Actually I eat carbs only one day a week. I do notice I get a bit tired towards the end of the week, otherwise I probably would’ve stuck with zero carbs a bit longer.

Right!! Had just over a week off as I’ve been working very long hours with no way of taking food into work. So put on all the weight I’d lost 🙁
So… Want to lose a couple of pounds before Christmas, then properly back on it after Christmas!
    How’s everyone else?
    X

Ugh sucks vcat, but those pounds you put on quickly tend to get off quickly as well. A good week should make you shed some of those pounds!

I’m good here, had a great week last week. Also torn between dilemma’s, mainly whether I want to go away for a weekend with a guy I can’t really understand (his English is terrible). It’d be bad for my diet, but maybe good for my psyche. Hmm.

    Hi Vcat,
Sorry to hear about the weight gain. What Nika said was right for me ~ after gaining, I went up to 4:3 and I lost all the weight I’d put on and a bit more besides. I’m doing 4:3 until the holidays are over simply because there’s so much going on during the feed days and way too much food about.
I am also looking forward to after Christmas when I can grasp the nettle again!

    Aud x

How’re you doing vcat? It’s been a week since your last post, wondering how you did 🙂

Hi Nika, how’s you? Lovely of u to check! I’ve not had a fasting day this week. I’m going to have a semi fasting day today and then start again properly again after Christmas.
I know fasting works now so I’m a lot less worried than I would normally be.
    Hi Aud as well.
    Hope ur both well.
    Xx

Ooh just read back some posts. Did u go away in the end Nika? X

Go away… on the weekend? Nah 🙁 Too many misunderstanding between us for me to feel safe 😉 And was a good choice, this way when he got too handsy and tried to kiss me it was at my door and I could just wish him a good night and close it 😉

I’m really inspired by you all…well done…even on the hiccups! I’m about to start my first fast tomorrow…I’m feeling really sluggish having eaten and drunk far too much…and am so looking forward to feeling healthy again and hopefully lose a little weight…this diet makes so much sense to me…good luck everyone 🙂

    Good luck to you too!

Right!!!!! Christmas is done, birthday is done and days off until Tuesday. So once Tuesday gets here I’m back on the diet! Can’t wait! My mum and dad are getting married in May (long story) and I’m going to lose a stone before then (determination!!).
Really looking forward to starting again.
Hope everyone else has had a great Christmas and new year. Xx

Thanks for the holiday wishes, vcat x

I also can’t wait to get into the swing of it again, here we go, woohooo!

    Aud x

    hi everyone,
My first day of the fast..and FYI cough drops are also an appetite suppress..I suck on the antiox ones and knock on wood, have not had a cold or been ill yet!
anywhoo, I am hoping that this is IT!
Saturdays and Mondays as my FAST days. Saturdays cause I sleep in til almost noon, so almost half of my day is already gone;) and then Monday so I can enjoy Sunday enough where I can ‘do it again’ on Monday, Fast that is. I am aiming for 1800 cal a day on my non fast, and doing Anything for 30 min during the non fast days and just ‘taking it EZ and kick back’ on Saturdays, then on Monday I will be cleaning house to keep my mind off of food of course, but reading or being busy cleaning Will keep my mind off Food too.74

I am going to use this for my ongoing progress.only going to ‘blog’ on my fast days and twice a week weigh ins.
I found that the M&R/sesame sticks/peanut mix Really helps with suppressing my appetite also.
There are also these Yum chocolate swirl yogurt bars that taste like ice cream at 40 cal a stick:).
Doing light housework also made the time go fast;)
Today is Sunday so I am off my fast and then back on it tomorrow.
Today going to put in 30 min of working out and that’s going to be on my non fasting days .70

Hi all, anyone still around? How’s everyone doing? I’m trying to lose a stone by end of April. Really determined to do this!!

Hello vcat, I’ve not commented on this thread before but just wanted to pop in and say hi and I am also trying to lose a stone from now until May 1st – so similar target and time frame as you. I have been doing this since Jan 13th and in the first four weeks I was thrilled to have lost 8 pounds. I am not weighing myself until March 7th and hope to be down at least another 5 by then. Fingers crossed. Good luck!

How has your progress been since Nov?

Hi! That’s great going, well done!! I started before Christmas and lost about 6lb I think. However I put it all back on again because we had Xmas, my birthday, then no kitchen so takeaways for a week!
However I’m back on it now. Lost a couple of lbs so far.
I can never wait that long to weigh myself. I weigh myself pretty much every day. Terrible I know!
I’m sure you’ll have lost another 5lbs by then. Good luck!! X

Hello, well done on your progress so far!

I used to weigh myself every day but I wanted to put the scales away for a bit until first week of March – that way I could egg myself on a bit when I saw a bigger number drop like 5 or so pounds rather than one or two!

    Good luck! Keep us posted.

After a practicum for my course (almost finished!) and diet all over the map, I’m back to a fasting day today (Feb 22). Let’s see if I can get back on the rails!

Got my fasting day in! Difficult getting back into it but feeling good today!
