  • I am 64, male, married and am in great shape for my age. My blood presure, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc are great. When I go to bootcamps, I can keep up with most of the younger folks. Most people say that I am not normal for my age. I have gained 20 pounds over the last 6 months. I now weight 198. I have started fasting 36 hours and eating clean for 3 days and then 36 hours again. Fasting is no calories. I have done this 4 times and have lost 7 pounds. I plan on doing this until I hit 170 and then going to one day a week. Any thoughts???

    Hi eugene and welcome:

Sounds like a plan. But you won’t keep losing at your current rate. You will have to be patient. Here are the basics: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

As noted, you won’t keep losing at your current rate. I fast from between 36 and 48 hours every other day and I’m lucky if I shift half a pound a week though nobody could accuse me of ‘eating clean’ on my feed days. Also, the less weight you have to lose, the longer it seems to take.
My plan (which is taking a little longer than anticipated due to a fondness for booze) is to switch to the standard 5:2 for maintenance when the time comes.

Having said all that, you sound like you’ll succeed in no time and I’m sure we all wish we’d be capable of doing boot camps at 64.

    Hi Eugene,

As long as you have no underlying health issues there should not be a problem. Im 54 and weighed 202 lbs and am now 160 lbs. I used to do 2 consecutive water fast days (Mon/Tues) per week but am in maintenance mode now and do only one day per week. That amounted to 60 hours per week. Breaking the days up makes it easier I think, but then you do 72 hours per week.

I still monitor my blood glucose and ketones and still manage to get into ketosis by the end of 36 hours. I think there are huge benefits to be had by fasting other than just losing weight. If you’ve been doing it so far without a problem then keep doing it.

Hi, Thanks for your thoughts. I hate to admit it but I am sure that I will not keep loosing at the same rate. I am only hoping that it will come off as quickly as it came. A couple of months would be GREAT!!

    Hi Bigbooty,
Congrats on your victory!!! How long did it take you to loose the weight??? When I started I weight 240 at retirement. I gradually dropped to the 180’a and just shot up recently. I have to get back and hit 170 to make my goal.
