  • Hi, just joined this forum and after some advice. This is my 3rd week of 5:2 and although my weight tends to go up after the weekend it is now only going up to 72kg instead of 74kg so going in the right direction! I find fasting ok while I am busy at work but struggle when I get home so this week I have decided to fast from 2pm today until 2pm tomorrow, although I will probably only eat fruit or low calorie snack until dinner tomorrow evening. Does anybody else fast like this or have tried it and if so I just wondered what others experiences are. Thanks 🙂

@wammy – there are loads of posts on this subject in these forums but the message is the same – do whatever works for you.

Give the way you are suggesting a try and see how it works for you. There’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way – just ‘YOUR’ way. You just have to experiment until you find the way that suits you best.

I’m sure you’ll see on here that 2pm – 2pm works for some people, but it doesn’t work for others.

You say you struggle when you get home on a fast day. Do you have dinner when you come home? Do you have your 500 calories on a fast day?

I have dinner on a non fast day then zero cals until dinner (of up to 500 cals) on my fast day. How you use your 500 cals is entirely up to you – 3 small meals/2 meals/ 1 meal – keep some for small snacks…whatever suits you.

    xx

Hello! I am new to the 5:2. I am a registered nurse and work shift work. Night shift is the only shift that really isn’t conducive to the usual breakfast-breakfast fast. Night shift is 9:30pm-7:30am and I need to eat during those hours. I than sleep from 8am-4pm ( roughly)
I am wondering if I was fasting these days how would be the easiest? Any experiences or suggestions?

The way that the 5:2 diet works is on two days from when you get up until when you go to bed, eat only 500 calories. On the other days, each up to your TDEE during your waking hours.

It does not define waking hours. Based on your posting, you need to eat between 9:30 pm and 7:30 am. Simply do that.
