  • just starting out this morning – have read and heard alot about this diet and think it could work for me. just weighed myself and im 12 stone – being that im only 5’1” its about 3 stone too heavy and being 49 with a BMI of 31 im heading for trouble. have decided to fast on tuesdays and fridays when my family are out and about in the evenings and when my work is busiest! so – anyone any tips and hints and how much can i expect to loose each week. not sure what ill eat today but i plan to have a huge tuna salad this evening – filling up on water and green tea today, and will pop out to the shops for lunch ideas… only thing that will fail me is the wine but giving up alchohol cant be a bad move either xxxxx good luck everyone too x

Well done for starting and keep up the good work! I started last month and in week 6 now, fasting Tuesday and Thursday. A couple of things I have found useful, drink lots of water, plan ahead for both fasting days so you know you have it covered, yoga and swimming have been helpful on fasting days, as not too strenuous but good for the soul and the self esteem… I had bmi of 51 and already down to 46. All the best

Well done, I’m on week 2, 4 fast days under my (too tight) belt. I’m doing 2 back to back fast days and trying not to eat till evening for the 3 following days then it’s the weekend and I don’t punish myself but if the wheels fall off the wagon I’m back on to 2 fast days again. I can see that this has a ‘binge’ pattern but it’s fitting in with my social life for the next couple of weeks, hopefully I can adjust for midweek events. I have a BMI of almost 30 and would like to lose 20kg, that seems an impossible number right now and I don’t want to get hung up on how many weeks at X amount loss it will take, so my first goal is 5kg and will focus on that. I struggle with giving up my wine in the evening but realise that is a big part of the reason I find myself needing to lose 20kgs!! I know it will be a long road ahead but feel this WILL work for me. I’m really glad to find this forum, thanks x

thank you for your replies peashoot ad orangeblossom x ive a bmi of 31 and need to loose 19kg to get to my goal of 9 stone or a size 12, whatever comes first!! i will miss my wine too and same as you its probably the reason im here lol!! i have tried dieting before but feel really motivated this time, other attempts it seemed i was too focussed on eating ‘diet foods’, and not loosing a thing and giving up within 2 weeks!! the only thing i will take into consideration on normal days is portion control but im not going to loose sleep over it by weighing this and that. and as for fast days i think ill stick to the same thing, wheelbarrow load of salad stuff, tin of tuna in brine with light mayo followed by a huge pile of melon and grapes with 3 tbps on natural yoghurt (which im nibbling at now). how much have you lost so far peashoot?

Thanks for the replies. I have lost 10lbs in 5 weeks and lost over a stone last summer using mindful eating techniques and Susie Orbach’s book On Eating, which has also helped me avoid binge on non fasting days. Finding other ways to be kind to myself and care for me that don’t include alcohol or food has helped. So this morning I am 2 stone lighter than Easter 2014, feeling positive and more in control. Would like to get another 5 stones off or so.. keep up the good work! We will do it!
