  • Hello everyone!

I’m so excited to be on this journey towards a healthy body weight. I finally found something that is working for me, but of course I am still very skeptical since nothing has ever worked for me in the past or has been even remotely sustainable. I’m 21 years old, female, 5’6″ tall, and I need to lose about 50 lbs to be at a healthy body weight. I started the FastDiet on 12/29/13 and I have been fasting twice a week since then. I’m just wondering if I can actually lose this amount of weight with this diet! It seems like most people I’ve read about on this forum have had much less to lose :/

Here are my results so far:

    12/29/13 – 207.4
    12/31/13 – 204.0
    1/3/14 – 204.0
    1/7/14 – 203.0
    1/14/14 – 202.2
    1/24/14 – 201.0
    2/4/14 – 198.4
    2/14/14 – 196.6

Any and all feedback is appreciated! I think I’m going to try to update this post weekly with my weigh-in results. Hugs to all!

    @dancingkiwi92 Hi and welcome

Can you lose 50 lbs? Well looking at your results so far you’re 20% of the way there! 11 lbs down is a great result.

5:2 is not a ‘fast’ diet in the speedy sense. It’s not even a ‘diet’ it’s a way of eating that results in lower weight and better health.

You may not lose huge amounts every week but you can anticipate averaging around 1 lb per week. There will be blips along the way, up and downs too. There may be times when you see inch losses when you don’t see weight loss, that’s quite usual, but it really is worth sticking with it.

Have you measured your chest/weight/hips – it’s really worth doing (maybe monthly) just to see your ‘inch loss’.

The folks on the forums vary greatly in the amounts they want to lose and many of them started at 50 lbs and more they wanted rid of. It works for everyone – just often in different ways.

Everyone is different and what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another – but the main thing is you do it the way it suits you best – there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way – there’s just ‘your’ way.

You’re doing great – keep on keeping on and keep us posted on your progress

    xx

    Hi dancingkiwi
well done for making the start and we are here for you. yes I reckon you can do it–scroll down to the new thread ‘black trousers’ and there is Carla (though we can’t actually see her unfortuantely) and she has lost 35lb. Congratulations Carla.
What kept me going was understanding why this way of eating works and the health benefits–so I focus less on the scales. and I enjoy the recipes in the Fast Diet book. My ‘go to’ strategy has been homemade chicken soup which I have in serving size lots in the freezer, means I can’t come home from work tired and use that as an excuse for the old usual 6 pieces of vogels and slatherings of PICs peanut butter!!!
You have made a tremendous start. keep us posted

welcome dancingkiwi! I am 5 weeks in and I am also hoping to lose about 50 lbs. I guess only time will tell but I definitely feel I can, and will, sustain this way of life indefinitely. I definitely second the advice to measure as well as weigh yourself. great progress so far!

Double Happy and Dancing Kiwi…asked a few friends and actually found a photograph from the very month I started and went back and posted it as a before shot in the blog if you are interested.

how fabulous is that Carla–wow you are an inspiration

Wow! Carla, I was going to have this week off due to school holidays but you’ve inspired me to keep going! Well done. You look great. X

Hiya dancingkiwi92. Yes you can. I started out at about 15 stone (not sure of exact weight) and am now 11st 5lb, so that’s about the 50lb mark. It’s taken 18 months and I’m not at my (personal) goal weight yet but you can definitely shift 50lb on this lifestyle and that’s exactly what it is to me now. the rest of the weight can take as long as it likes to go. It’s down to 1-2lb per month now and I think (and plan) to ramp up the exercise now to help it along and tone myself up but slow & steady has been good and sustainable for me. 😉

Hi dancingkiwi92, as others have said yes you can lose 50lbs on this eating plan, im almost there 48 1/2 lbs lost to date, as tracy has said it has slowed for me to, this is the only plan ive tried that has worked and that ive been able to keep at for a long time, ive no doubt i will reach my goal now i have the tools and support of others here on this forum, for the first time in my adult life i feel normal, i can now take clothes off the peg in uk sizes 14 bottoms and 16 tops, i was a size 20/24, keep going and well done on your loss so far, it does work! xx

I have 44lbs to lose, maybe we can help and support each other?

Hey everyone! It’s great to see all these comments. This forum definitely keeps me motivated! My week was hectic and I had to move my fast days around but I got two days in and I weighed myself after a week. I’m very happy! It’s going to be a good day! And hopefully this will keep me on track for the weekend.

(13 pounds lost so far since 12/29/13)

I need to join in here as I have 70 lbs to lose and that’s after losing 12 lbs. The way I see it is
we are all here for the same reason. We take comfort from eating usually to compensate for something lacking in our lives whether it is a problem, boredom or a lack of personal satisfaction.
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong!
Now we can support each other to do something positive for ourselves and more importantly our health.
Good luck to all fasters, let’s support each other through the highs and lows, the side effects, the lack of family support and the disappointments on the scales when we don’t deserve them.

@wiltldnrusa Nothing special on non-fast days until recently when I started increasing the length of the overnight fast by skipping breakfast most days and at the same time reducing my carb intake with an aim of keeping it below 150g on non-fast days and as low as poss on fast days. Since then weightloss has picked up again but I still need to lose another 10kg to get to goal. May go to 6:1 then, we’ll see…

My before and after (or rather, ‘so-far’)photos can be seen here: http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk/5-2-diet-results-f32/think-it-s-time-for-some-before-almost-after-shots-t8178.html

    Hi:

I have seen several posts on other sites reporting weight losses on 5:2 of 50 pounds or over.

The point, however, is that it takes a long time. With the average weight loss of only about a pound a week, combined with the fact that as you get nearer your goal the weight loss rate slows considerably, a person realistically has to expect to lose 50 pounds in a minimum of 13 to 15 months.

But that is true on any diet, not just 5:2.

Hi everyone! I’ve been sleeping a lot lately and I had to change around my fasting days this past week BUT here are my results!

    2/27/14 – 192.6
