  • Hi my name is Elaine, I have just started the 5 – 2 diet today, this is my first day of fasting! I have decided to just stick to water! as I have found the book very confusing! as when I look up the calorie quantity of a food it contradicts the amount of calories the book quotes in recipes. i.e. on page 156 it states 2 lean grilled rashers of bacon (50g. 107 calories) on page 192 under protein it lists bacon 100 grams of bacon as 244 calories! I have found this on quite a lot of foods so which one is right! also I have gone on the internet to calorie counting sites and have found that they all contradict each other! therefore how is everyone managing to count calories! I THINK I NEED HELP! thank you for taking the time to read my post I look forward to any help I can get!

    Hi Elaine

You don’t have to stick to water you can have your 500 calories on fast days. The best thing it to check the calories on the food you buy for example Waitrose – Rashers Smoked Dry Cured Back Bacon 2 grilled comes to 133 calories and I know that 2 streaky bacon rasher from ASDA grilled comes to 71 calories. Lean rashers and bacon maybe slightly different so just read the labels.

You can for example have a stir fried chicken breast with vegetables for around 300 calories and then just add the calories for the olive oil (or you can use 1 cal spray) and soy sauce etc.

Some people tend to buy the ready meals from the supermarket so they don’t have to worry as the calories are all worked out for them, so that is also an option.

    Good luck 🙂

    Hi JFitzy!

Thank you for your advice I appreciate it! and will try doing it that way! thank you again!

I use myfitnesspal app to log all my food. As said above you can check on labels or google what you eat.
    Stef.
