  • Just thought I would share with you a great new type of aerobic fitness. It’s a bit like line dancing in that you all dance separately. There are opportunities for partner dancing it you have enough men. We did not, 30 to 1 ratio. Therefore we twirled in a circle and had it imagine a male partner, mine was tall, dark and handsome. We started by doing a waltz, then tango, salsa, foxtrot, Vienna waltz, rumba, jive, and several others I have forgotten. This class has already been running a year so I was truly in the deep end. I love dancing although I have had no formal training so I didn’t know any steps. Many were familiar from watching ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, it’s all so fast though. When you think you have learnt a step she adds a bit to it. Your arms and hips need to do quiet a bit too, mine did quite a lot of extra wobbling but we won’t talk about that in public. Lightness of foot is something that often us chubbier folk can compete with even if we win hands down on the redness of face.
Hopefully I will improve but even if I don’t I will be there weekly now…….try it folks ! Especially you men, you are needed. A man who can dance is a rare and attractive thing.

Hiya jojo58, I love dancing and you’re right, it’s SOOOOOOOOOOOO good for fitness. My mum & I used to go to a Jive ‘class’ at a social club in York. We absollutely loved it, although it could be a bit of a pain when there weren’t enough fellas to go around.

Although it was supposed to be a class, our ‘instructor’ (the owner of the club) was totally opposed to teaching us girls to lead, so if there were no other guys then he’d just have to partner us all by himself one (occasionally two) at a time. Bless him.

Didn’t really have to learn steps, as it was really just ‘following’ for us but my goodness it was a proper workout, especially in heels.

I miss York but I really miss jive 🙁

    Try Ceroc.

I would love to but there are no Ceroc courses locally, shame
    Do you dance for fitness?

I do it for fun, it is my little bit of bliss. It is also very aerobic and has helped with my fitness too.

What a shame that there are no classes locally.
