  • Hi guys.
I just started the diet and I have a question: Is It ok to do your 24 hours of non food from ex. dinnertime one day and until dinnertime the next day?

    Thanks,
    Anne.

    Hi and welcome:

Here is a post I just made in answer to another question. Your 24 hour period of ‘non food’ is in error if you want to do 5:2:

‘On two days each week you eat 500 or fewer calories. The remaining five days, you eat normally.

A ‘day’ is when you are awake. So you get up in the morning and during your waking hours you eat 500 calories. You go to bed and when you wake up the next day you resume your normal eating.

There are no foods you must eat, and no foods you cannot eat. Eat what you normally eat.

    Here are some tips: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!’

Great thanks, I see I’ve been thinking this 24 hours thing way too literally. I have been doing 5:2 with a start in the middle of one day and untill lunch the next day as an example.

It’s not the hours that is the puzzle it is your reference to non food.If you follow simcoluv’s advice you will be on the right track. 5:2 does mean eating–500cals
lunch to lunch would work as well as any other time of day.

    double happy:

5:2 does not call for 500 calories in 24 hours.

It calls for 500 calories from bed time tonight to wake up the day after tomorrow – or 500 calories in about 32 hours.

The 24 hour ‘option’ is not 5:2, and is not as effective as 5:2 for many, many people. That is because many people choose the 24 hour ‘option’ so they can eat more, thus reducing the calorie restriction that 5:2 requires and mitigating the results that 5:2 provides.

    Good Luck!

oh well lunch to lunch works for me
