Hello,
This is my first post on the blog.
I began the Fast Diet on Monday May 26, 2014. Today is September 3rd, which puts me at just over 3 months of consistent practice. Here are my results:
Male
62 years
Weight: 197 to 173.1 pounds
Ab (at belly-button): 45″ to 38″
Hips: 41″ to 38″
Chest: 44″ to 39″
Neck: 16.5″ to 15″
The Fast Diet is the first diet I have ever tried. I found a link to Dr. Mosley’s “Eat, Fast & Live Longer” documentary. I was very interested in the science, and thought I would give it a go.
It has turned out that I am one of those people who not only acclimates well to fasting, but actually enjoys it. I’ve had a few bumps, but nothing I would describe as dramatic. For example, I had to experience a couple of fast-day headaches until I finally realized how important protein was for my fast-days.
The most surprising part of my experience was how quickly I began to feel better.
After a few weeks I was sleeping better, and I found out my wife was also sleeping better. My unhealthy weight and late-night eating had resulted in a snoring habit that was exhausting both of us. For all I know the neighbors may be sleeping better as well.
I made a serious effort to capitalize on feeling better and having more energy. I wanted to use my new found energy to change my sedentary lifestyle, as well as other parts of my life I had allowed to slip away.
I started walking during my lunch breaks. When the weather and work permits I get in 2.5 miles a day (about 45 minutes). I also started getting up from my desk at work and walking the stairs. I try to take 14 flights (floors) a day (but not all at once, not yet). I also joined the fitness center at the school where I work, doing strength training and trying some high-intensity-interval-training on the exercise bike, a few times a week.
Like so many others, my experience with the Fast Diet has effected the way I’m eating on my non-fast days. Generally speaking I eat smaller portions, make better choices, and drink 2 or 3 fewer beers during a week. I also try to be very conscious of limiting sugar and processed carbs. Otherwise, no soft-drinks, no fast-food restaurants, just basically trying to not do anything that is stupid.
I’m not a teetotaler or extremist on any of these points. I’m human, and come with all the slips, slides and imperfections of our “model.” But I manage to do well, and feel like I’m calling the shots for me, rather than my previous unconscious lifestyle which was getting up in the morning, starting to eat, and with few brief breaks during the day, basically continuing to eat until I went to bed at night.
The Fast Diet allowed me to wake up from that nightmare. And I’m very grateful for that.
Best to you and yours,
