  • I am a 5’10” tall 47 year old mother of 6 year old twin girls. Previously very sporty but knee operations have put pay to that ! YoYoed on crash diets since having the girls but am determined to CHANGE FOR GOOD this time. On Feb 1st 2014 I stopped drinking alcohol (bad habits creeping in) and started the 5:2. At the time I was 13st 10.5 lbs. 2 months in I have not had an alcoholic drink – which amazes my friends and family – and have stuck well to the diet. I am now 12st 3 lbs so I have lost a stone and a half / 21 lbs / nearly 11 kgs. My goal is to get back to under 11stone and be a happy size 12 which is what I always was before I had the girls. I seem to have phases of loss and then a week or so of nothing. Suspect this may be regualr hormone cycles. I can’t wait to break the 12 stone mark and start seeing 11 stone something on the scales.Good luck to all the other 5:2 ers

Hello Tally! Welcome to the forum! 🙂

What a great results! Well done! You must be proud of yourself!

Well done on ditching alcohol! It’s hard heh? I started just over 2 months ago, and like you was drinking well too much before then. I could easily drink bottle of wine by myself, after I’ve put children to bed. I feel much better, and do much more in my evening time, while alcohol free. I still have occasional drink, but promised myself I would only drink if there is an occasion (real occasion not made up one if you know what I mean? 😉 ). Last month we had 2 birthdays with family around and lots of fun, but why to poison yourself everyday? 🙂

You are doing great job, so carry on going strong!

    Best of luck! xx

I have managed to make it down to 11st 5lbs and am still alcohol free. It’s my birthday next month so I am trying to get to my goal pre-baby weight of 10st 10lb around that time. I feel so much healthier but think I am struggling with some image issues as I feel really good about my acheivements and then when I look in the mirror can only see the negatives of the last few pounds hanging in the wrong places. So I clearly need to buck up a bit about that. Having a small knee op on Monday to take some bits of cartilage out that are floating around in the joint and getting stuck every now and again. Following that I am planning my get back to fitness regime. Still finding the Mon /Thurs fasting very manageable and am finding I am eating a lot more veggie based meals and a lot less meat. So, for those reading this who are not 3 months into it, hang in there, it works !

Congratulations, tally9040, well done, weight lost and alcohol free, both 🙂 I know what you mean, I’ve lost 38 pounds and feel way better, but still feel my belly sticking out in front of me, even though my legs look fine and even my arms are looking not fat, just jiggly 😉 So I worry that I’ll get to goal and still feel that belly sticking out. Hopefully not, we’ll see, I guess. I try not to set myself goals of losing a certain amount of weight by a certain time because my doctor warned me that weight loss seems to stall for a couple of weeks every ten pounds or so. Sometimes I can avoid that by walking more or doing an extra “half-fasting day” each week, sometimes not. I would like to reach goal within a year of starting if I can, trying to prepare myself for carrying on if it turns out not to be possible. I think being able to get back into exercising will help, best wishes for your surgery 🙂

That’s great you have done well, sound similar to me had operation in October and not been able to exercise since now jan 4th pounds have slowly crept on and my size12 clothes are feeling very uncomfortable hoping that this time next month they will feel slightly looser
