  • Hi does anyone know what the 16 : 8 fast diet is about

In a nutshell you fast for 16 hours each day and only consume your calories in an 8 hour period. A lot of people will fast from after dinner one night till late lunch the next day.

I did 20:4 for 4 months, just having 4 hrs to eat a day – I’m still keeping switchin’ between this and other forms of intermittend fasting (even including a 500 kcal-“fasting” day like the 5:2 fasters do twice a week).

All great ways to loose weight and improve your health! But switching the patterns is important as you body loves to settle down and stick to its weight.

    Q

Yeah Quizzle, it’s right and people shouldn’t forget that. The body doesn’t really like losing weight (even though it’s healthier) because we’re wired to see that as a famine and we try to hold on to our energy stores!

Switching it up whilst on a plateau is very important. I’ll probably switch it up when I get to NZ, but not yet – lost 2.6kg last week so not plateauing here!

Hey guys so does with 16:8 do you do it every day?

Hi, I’m confused by this, looking everywhere for information. do you eat your recommended calories in the 8 hours everyday or have a 500 calorie day as well? Thanks

    Hi Lucy,

I started 5:2 a year ago, lost 30lbs (combining 16:8 with 5:2) and have been maintaining since June (16:8, with occasional calorie restricted days). I also eat no/ very low processed carbs during the week.

16:8 is natural for me because I’m rarely hungry first thing, but it was the added 5:2 (quarter TDEE) days that resulted in weight loss for me.

I think how you practice it depends on what you want to achieve!

PS there is an 8 hour diet book, but that’s not necessarily what people mean by 16:8!
