  • Started the 5:2 diet last week. Never eaten a lower calorie diet before. I was always a low carber before which sadly meant I always put the weight back on as it’s very hard to live with. I was very surprised how well I manage on 500 calories, using an app to track my calories an exercise on all days. My hopes are to lose 2 stone steadily an then switch to the 6:1 maintenance diet. Just wondered if anyone else noticed difficulty getting off to sleep on fast days. An if so any tips to help?

I have to have something in my stomach when I go to bed so on fast days,I drink a half cup of broth. Some people have a later dinner, and save most of their calories for that last meal. Since I take meds for chronic pain, I have to eat 3 smaller meals to take meds with. So far it works well. Down 14 lbs in 6 weeks. Welcome to the best plan ever!

On my second fast day at the moment and going ok but really hoping I stick to it. I am getting married in October and need to lose two stone at least…. Argh!!!

Thanks fitnfast I will try a broth before I go to bed. Unfortunately I have a hernia so can’t eat anything to substantial at least 4 hrs before I sleep but maybe I need to play round with how I use my calories more. An saffron28 I lost 1 kg my first week an I really struggle to shift weight so fingers crossed for your target weight loss.

Thank you, that sounds promising. I have to eat too. Haven’t slept well tonight because hungry! Can’t wait for breakfast but also feel pleased because I stuck it out. Iv ordered a 5:2 book to help out with what I can eat on fast days. I like a cuppa so milk takes calories for me! Looking forward to some good results. This site is keeping me motivated. Daisy I struggle too with shedding pounds, never used too. I’m a picker though, that’s my downfall! I will let u know how my first week goes

It gets easier as you go along. I never, ever fasted, even for blood work, I would sneak a few crackers or something! Now, I look forward to it! So weird!

Something else I started is no snacking between meals, go as long as possible between meals (even on non fast days), no eating after dinner/before bed (except broth or something real light), no processed foods (bread, sugar, etc), except for 1 day a week. I call that my refeed day!

Yes that’s something I’m going to do… Apart from today. I’m taking my two children for a picnic, however, I have made some changes, less sandwiches and more carrot sticks and healthy option crisps etc. I plan on having that and then nothing until dinner where I will have something light as you said! I feel quite in control which is nice! This forum helps! Thank you
