  • Dare I start a ‘diary’ on here?? I have started and failed miserably at so many diets over the last few years! I really really want to believe that this ones different.
I have done loads of research, read as many books as I could find and I think I have decided on a 5:2 16/8 combination.
Like many others I piled weight on during two close together pregnancies, and I’ve just not really been able to successfully shift it since.
I am now 45 and my youngest is 8 so it’s already been a long battle!
So I started on Monday at 11st 2 and have decided my fast days will be Tues and Thurs initially.
So my week so far has looked like this….had dinner at about 7pm on Monday evening, then fasted all day Tuesday and didn’t eat till 12midday Weds. Ate till 7pm Weds (approx 1200 cals) then fasted all day Thurs and will eat today, Friday at 12midday again. It looks a bit extreme when I write it down! I never eat breakfast anyway so it doesn’t bother me going to midday and then eat for 8 hours ish (not continually!!) I will stick to below my TDEE most days except Saturdays when wine will take me over!
Does this look ok? I am determined (but then I always am!) I’m hoping to be able to maintain the momentum….
Scales this morning show 10.11 but this will be mostly water weight I’m guessing and don’t feel that I’ve really started yet until I’ve done a week of both fasting and normal days… I can be angelic in the week, my problems are weekends when my ‘I deserve it head’ rears it’s ugly self!
Any support or advice would be much lay appreciated!

    looby xx

Hiya looby, you know your numbers best but unless you’re very short I think you may be being a bit hard on yourself with 1200 kcals on non-fastdays. It’s not supposed to ‘feel’ like a diet every day – the point is to get it comfortable enough for you to stick to forever as a lifestyle. But if that’s what your numbers say, fair enough.

For myself, I’m trying to kick start losses again after a protracted plateau (there are reasons for the plateau other than the diet but I DO need to get back ‘on it’ and pay attention again). I’m currently 11 stone something getting towards 12 stone and ‘should’ (in the imaginary world of Dr. BMI – damn his eyes) be 9stone3 apparently but I don’t care about that so I’ve re-done my TDEE based on my OWN goal weight of 10 stone. This comes out at just under 1600 per day on zero exercise (I don’t actually DO zero exercise you understand but underestimating by 1 level seems to work for me on this TDEE calculator).

So my plan is to eat less than 1600 on weekday non-fastdays (but not MUCH less because then I’d feel like I was on a bloody diet) and absolutely no more than 500kcal on fastdays. At weekends I might let myself slip (very slightly) over 1600, if I feel I deserve it, by 100kcal or so.

Bearing in mind that I’m working to my TARGET TDEE and not my ACTUAL TDEE, if I’m strict with the ‘no more than’ during the week, then I hope it will counter balance the ‘slight slips over’ at the weekends. I should still be down by the 1100kcals (at the very least) I’m not eating on each fastday, which equates to 2200kcal (at the very least) which should be about 2/3 of a lb per week. I’ll be more than happy with 1/2 lb per week to be honest, as I KNOW this works and I’m already in it for the long haul. Any extra momentum I gather at the start from working to my target TDEE will be a massive bonus.

This ‘diet’ was SO much easier when I was HUGE – I guess losing half a backstreet boy in weight has it’s downfalls, as does kicking up the exercise level in my case 😉
