Addicted to weight loss?

  • Hi all, I started this after Easter with an initial weight of approx 92kg
    It’s now 15th April and my weight check this morning was 88.2kg
    The rapid progress is principally down to the fact that I’m letting non-fast days morph very closely to what I eat on fast days though
    I can quite easily go with a bowl of bran flakes around 7.45am then nothing but fluids until 5.30pm when I allow myself a large bowl of pre-prepared soup consisting wholly of vegetables
    On top of this I’m exercising daily and simply not suffering from hunger during day
    So whenever I see the weight plummet I’m spurred on and inclined to mould my day towards a fast day rather than a non-fast one
    My initial weight loss target point was 86kg but I’ve now slashed this to first milestone of 80kg
    Is there a danger of negating the starvation mode effect if you are doing too many fast days
    There seems to be a very positive chain reaction going on here and I’m riding it to flat belly land

    You don’t seem to be eating any fats or protein. This WOE might have triggered an unhealthy obsessions in you.
    Please eat normally on non fast days according to the guidelines of this way of eating. It isn’t about starving or obsessively exercising. It’s about regaining health and balance.

    I second what VibeRadiant wrote. You are missing out on very important macronutrients especially for all the exercise you are doing. You cannot build muscle if you are not eating any protein. I would guess what you are doing will actually cause you to lose muscle.

    This diet is about maintaining a healthy balance so you can maintain the lifestyle for the rest of your life. What you are doing is not sustainable. You should read the book if you haven’t done so already.

    I think I wanted to kickstart the weight coming off but will balance it out as per book as certainly don’t want to lose muscle mass

    You could also say that what I’m doing equates to the 2:5 diet, namely 5 week days closely resembling fast days followed by 2 non fast days at weekend
    a short term regime if you like to get the fat burning going before I transition to the normal 5:2 set up
    If I protein up at weekends what are your thoughts

    @mcpop Dr Mosley says to eat protein even on fast days. Lean protrein doesn’t have many calories; egg whites, unflavored gelatin and so forth.

    Trying to come up with some optimal sources on these days
    What’s your opinion on Grape-Nut cereal? I opted for this today for breakfast instead of Tuna Crunch baguette. Both same amount of calories but the latter with 12g of fat. I’d have preferred to eat the latter, tastier and loads of protein

    Well, protein and fat will keep you feeling fuller longer. Keep your processed carbs low, fill up on leafy greens and eat what you like. That’s my motto.

    Looks like the 88.2 was a phantom reading as weight has settled around 89kg but that’s still a few kilos loss from when I started. I need to kick on now
    Can’t help feeling guilty upping food intake on non-fast days though as I’m impatient for progress
    I think I’d prefer to do the following schedule:
    Monday, Thursday = Fast days as per book
    Tues, Wed, Fri = Semi-fast (half way between fast day and non-fast)
    Weekend, complete freedom within reason
    Your thoughts on this arrangement?

    @mcpop72 – remember that IF is not a diet, so please don’t feel guilty eating our TDEE amount on non fast days.
    I fast M-W-F (low cal and low fat), I have modified non fast days on Tu-Th, double the calories for dinner and dessert with a light lunch. Weekends I eat brunch, dinner and snacks if I want.
    It’s ok to play around with the days until you find what works for you. This is your WOE – so own it!

    Thanks, I’m struggling more with habit than hunger TBH
    When I get home my natural urge is to look for food
    I managed this last night with cherry toms, carrots and pumpkin seeds. Feel like a rabbit!
    No seriously, the weight is slowly coming off. I’ve been delusional for some time now about the excess timber I’m carrying all principally due to gorging on carbs

    Habits are ingrained in us for sure.
    Here is a mantra I tell myself: In order to change things, things need to change.

    Don’t give up, two steps forward, one step back.
