  • I started the 5.2 in January after seeing the Horizon programms and have found it fantastic, I’ve lost nearly 8kg in 9 weeks, the rate of loss has slowed to 1/2 kilo a week which I believe is pretty normal.
I read another 5.2 book by Dr Michael Ericsson. In this he states several times that this diet consists of 2 non-consecutive fast days
Q1 – Is there any evidence as to the effectiveness of consecutive days or not?
Also he gives recipes which include carbs ie rice, potatoes etc. Dr Mosely’s diet excludes carbs on fast days which appear to have benefits for weight loss.
Q2 – Is the absence of carbs on fast days cruicial for weight loss?
I’ve adhered strictly to Dr Mosely’s diet and find that It works well and more importantly (for me) is totally sustainable, any ideas?

Q1 – Is there any evidence as to the effectiveness of consecutive days or not?

There are thousands of people who have successfully lost weight with consecutive fast days. It matters not. Some people find it more difficult to fast two days consecutively and others find it easier.

Q2 – Is the absence of carbs on fast days cruicial for weight loss?

No. It’s a calorie based diet. Provided you stay within the calorie guidelines you will lose weight. A lot of people find it easier to use a smaller percentage of carbohydrates to stay feeling full longer.
