  • I tried the 5:2 four months ago and felt the FD to be a real strain. But the weight is still there so am giving it a new go with renewed enthusiasm. I am aware real change takes 12 weeks so I’m really in this time. I read from someone that our level of commitment and readiness does have an impact on our coping skills. Anyone else?

    Hi G and welcome:

Here are some tips that might help: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Well, generally yes. Fasting days get easier, but there are some days when fasting is a challenge. I think the best way to keep going is *preparation*.

I had a false start last October, and abandoned it for the rest of 2014. In November I hit the 104 kg mark (I’m 1.65 mt tall/short). So, something had to be done.

Since WW has changed its system, I just could not get back into it. So, I prepared myself mentally in December 2014 to start in January. I was hesitant because I did not want to do the “new year’s resolution” thing. And I didn’t. I just started on the first week of January, one fasting day at the time.

I did not even weigh myself or take measurements. I did it a couple of weeks later.

I noticed the scales going down. That was rewarding and kept me going.

Today is 26th March, and I have lost 11 kg since October, but 9 kg since January. Yay!

I fit again in my skinny clothes, and can see that I’ll need to update my wardrobe by the middle of the year.

On fasting days I drink coffee with skim milk, diet drinks (ginger beer), soups, small salads, fruits, etc, all within the 600 Kcals limit. Sometimes I’ve gone 70 cals above, but I make it up by extending my fasting till the lunch time of the day after my fasting day.

Some weeks I’ve lost 1 kg. Some weeks, 800 gm, some others 100 or 200 gms, and there was one week when I gained 200 gms. But overall, I’ve have lost a lot of weight with the minimum of *sacrifice*.

What’s more, I’m starting my slightly overweight dog on fasting (modified caloric intake), as he needs to lose a couple of kilos!

I’ve combined my regime with a 3 days a week fast exercise on my cross trainer. 7 minutes IE. That seems to help.

I will be having surgery tomorrow, and won’t be able to be active for about 8 weeks, but I intend to keep my IF going.

I can see that this is a sustainable life style change. Especially because I get to eat whatever I want – within reason … very broad reason -. I’m not a drinker, so that doesn’t affect me, but I love my BBQ pork ribs as a treat every 2 or 3 weeks if not longer. I consume salads, and am more mindful of the level of carbs. I avoid sugar, but still eat things that contain sugar every now and then.

I went to my GP, and he was pleased of my 11 kg loss, and encouraged me to keep my 5:2 going.

So, in short, yes, fasting days do get easier most of the time. There are some times, though, when they can be a challenge. But I just think that overall, I can eat whatever I want without guilt. If I overdo it, I make amends. I don’t do it, so no worries.

I’m a happy camper, and I continue losing weight and feeling good.

    Regards,

    Jeff

Thanks Jeff. OK, 1 FD at a time, right. If I’m over, prolong the fast well into the next day, easy. Your dog, how sweet. Keep us posted, I’m sure it will be good. And another good point is sustainable lifestyle. I’m putting all of this in my 5:2 journal.
The fast days have revealed to me how easily I am satiated the following day. And how easy it is to consume way too many calories even though I have never been a big eater. A lifelong member of my grandfather’s clean plate club that he thought we should join as picky eater kids. But I left that club awhile back.
