Hi, about to start the 5:2 diet. Heard nothing but good things about it. Need to lose 5 stone. Any encouragement would be appreciated 🙂

Welcome!
I started my 5:2 journey on 26th January this year weighing 76kg or 11stone 13.5lb. I struggled with fast day #1 but kept at it and 4 weeks on I think I have a bit of a flow going. I fast Mon & Thurs but eat pretty light on Tues and Wed too. I just eat whatever over the weekend. On week days it is normally no breakfast (or a scrambled egg on a non-fast day if needed), soup for lunch (maybe with bread if a non-fast day), lean protein and veg for tea (maybe with a carb side order on a non-fast day) and a hot chocolate (maybe with biscuit or other on a non-fast day) before bed. I snack on a few dried apricots if desperate and the occasional hot and sweet cup of coffee (my addiction!).
I probably eat 500kcal on Mon and Thurs and 1300kcal on Tues, Wed and Fri. Sat and Sun are closer to my old habits of 2000kcal/day.
I weighed myself today and I am 72kg or 11stone 5lb. My BMI is now back just under 25. I have lost 8.5lb in 4 weeks and it shows. My jeans are loose and my energy is much improved. My appetite is also flattening out. Even on no-count weekend days I notice I am eating less and wanting to eat less. Today is a fast day and I feel fine. Yes I am hungry but that hunger isn’t bothering me. The diet has also caused me to make effort with the food I eat – stuffing in tasteless junk seems a waste of calories so now I prepare things I enjoy. My fasting day dinner is fresh roast chicken and baked sweet potato with green salad – far nicer than a ready meal or chips as I once would have eaten.
I have another stone to lost but I am confident that eating this way I will make it and that I will feel even more energetic when I get there!
Best of luck for your journey!
Good luck Patch 83. I recently started and am on week 5 (10th fasting day today!) Not including this week I have lost 8lbs of the 28lbs I wanted to lose at the start and that is without denying myself the usual weekend which involves sports and beers! I do quite a bit of exercise but in truth no more than I did before I started this lifestyle. The one thing I would say is to watch the non fast days intake. I think that is the secret to successful. Fast days will naturally allow you to lose weight but they are maximised if you then don’t overeat the following days. You will find that over time you won’t want to do that anyway.
Good luck
I try not to think about how much weight I have to lose. Having a goal and losing “x stones by y date” makes me feel under pressure and loads the emotions when you get on the scales.
My approach is “I will do this for x months and see how I shape up in that time.” June (or whatever date) will come round whether I do this or not, so I try to not think about it, just do the 5:2, see what happens. It’s better for me if I don’t have WEIGHT LOSS emblazoned front and centre of my mind, it ruins day-to-day living in my experience.

Hello,
I am new to this site but find all the comments a real support. I am a young 71yr old and have been on the 5.2 since 24th January. I have lost 71b so far. Yes the fasting days can be tough but knowing I can have that piece of toast and marmalade the next day keeps me from giving up. This is the first real eating plan that works for me and as I have an underactive thyroid I always found it really difficult to lose weight. I try and eat carefully on the non fast days but still eat out and have some treats.Don’t give up if you find that some weeks you lose nothing. That happened to me but I kept going and lost 31b this week. Good luck everyone.
