  • I have been eating this way, on and off, for about a year. I keep stalling because the day after the fast day I feel guilty eating so I don’t eat as much as I should. This then leads me to overeat the next day and then I end up saying next week I will start again properly. So as a consequence I am still at my starting weight. Are there any suggestions?

    Hi Smarte
If you are fasting twice a week and eating less the next day (happens to lots of us…the spin off from fasting), then eating “normally” on the other days, you should definitely be losing weight. The whole point is, you get to understand that your body doesn’t need nearly as much food as most of us eat and that you can go long periods without food. As I said, eating less the day after a fast is quite normal. You don’t need to eat more than your body feels like eating. Learn to listen to the full signals. I usually skip breakfast the day after a fast as I’m simply not hungry. Hunger builds in the days post fasting and is reset by the next fast.

Have you calculated your daily requirements (TDEE) on the homepage of this site? Eat 1/4 of that on fast days. Try to keep below it on the other days. There is no such thing as having to eat “as much as you should”. If you are eating less than your TDEE, that’s good.
You mention you have been doing this a year. Have you lost any weight? You need to carefully calculate your TDEE accurately (and underestimate your activity level). Most women should be well below 2000 calories a day. Mine started at 1600, but I have reduced this even further as my weight dropped. So on fast days I have 400 calories maximum.
    All the best PVE
