  • Hi all,
I have found that since giving up coffee for green tea it is really helping with the 5:2 results. I love the Fast Diet and commend it to anyone trying to help themselves become their true selves.

I drink a lot of black tea with milk on non-fast days, and on fast days I only allow myself the milk in my tea with breakfast and dinner, then throughout the day I will have green, jasmine, peppermint, and other herbal teas.
If you plan to get through a variety of teas on fasting day, you’re so busy boiling the kettle and getting through them all that it’ll be dinner time before you know it!

I’ve just started, and my biggest worry (probably not the right word as it’s hardly important!) is not having my favourite Earl Grey tea with milk, and that will be the first thing I have tomorrow.

I’ve tried green tea a few times, and just can’t get on with it: is it an acquired taste and worth pursuing?

I’ve got lots of herbal teas but found myself being really strict and avoiding them because they have 2 to 8 calories a cup – is that being too strict (it is my first day today!)

Right – off to boil the kettle again. Might try my Earl Grey without milk…

I try to start my day with a ‘Boo Tea’ on fast days (I bought some of their herbal tea bags late last year and found that they can help suppress my appetite a bit so I feel like i’m giving myself a head start).

However I have found that a black coffee really helps me on a fast day! I never usually drink coffee any other time, but one or two seem to help me through.

If I really fancy a normal tea, I’ll have one – I take my tea pretty strong and I only use skimmed milk, so one mug is only around 11 calories.

Stephanie, you can drink your tea with milk on fast days. You just have to take the calories from your allowance. I set aside enough calories for 2 cups of tea (Earl Grey, like you) each fast day, as I need one first thing and one during the afternoon. 30 cals well spent in my book! 🙂

I started drinking herbal teas some years back in an attempt to ditch the caffiene. I prefer peppermint, lemon and ginger and nettle. I can’t get my head round green tea at all.

Thanks Kitty. I have had a count up of my planned calories for the day, and am pleased to see a bit of milk in my tea will still be in my limits.

I think I was getting a bit hung up about trying to leave as big a gap as possible between taking in any calories, rather than just concentrating on keeping overall intake to 500 for the day.

Aside from my favourite Earl Grey, I’ve recently discovered Lavender and Echinacea and think it’s really nice. Rosehip is an old favourite, especially during the cold winter months.

I’ve also added Green Tea in on my fast days. It seems to curve my appetite a bit.

I like Green tea with lemon, a recent trip to Sweden has given me a taste for loose leaf Rooibos 🙂

I have to have a couple of cups of PG Tips first thing in the morning, and a couple of cups of Rooibos tea after that. I also think it’s got to be worth the calories to stay sane.

After that I switch to fruit teas – Twinings Blackcurrant and Vanilla is my current favourite.
