  • Hi everyone I have been on the 5:2 diet for about 8 weeks now and lost less than 1/2 lb so decided to seek out the fast diet website and its forums for a better understanding of what I may be doing wrong

Hi Bob, it might help if you tell us what you are doing now. What are you eating on an average day ect. How much weight do you need to lose?

Breakfast Toast with butter and marmalade or Weetabix x2 with Mullerlight Yogurt 99 cal and a cup of coffee

lunch ready meal around 450-500 cals

    tea around 750 cals max

supper cereal, crisps and the occasional choc bar/addiction to Bassetts Liq Allsorts, bit of cake from supermarket when I feel like I need something nice and a mug of options hot choc with a bit of extra milk

Bob, I don’t know your statistics and you have not told us what you snack between meals, drink during the day and in the evening or how often you go for “special” meals like fast food. However, what you have listed is already around 2000 kcals.

It might be a good idea to count calories meticulously for a while just to get an idea of your true intake. When I say meticulous that’s exactly what I mean: every nibble, every sip, weighed and measured because your portion size is important. You might not realise how much you actually eat. For example your breakfast the little individual portions of butter (25 g) have about 180 kcal. It is easy to spread two of them (360 kcal) over four slices of toast (Wharburtons Thick Cut White Bread 82 kcal per slice = 328 kcal), slap some jam on (orange marmalade 20 g portion 49 kcal, 2 portions = 98 kcal), wash it down with a couple of cups white coffee and create a 800 kcal breakfast that does not even fill you up.
Even your Weetabix with Mueller light are close to 400 kcal and easily over that if you have milk with it.

    Hi Bob:

If you have been eating 600 calories or less on your diet days and lost only a half a pound in about 8 weeks, you are eating way too many calories on your non diet days. I agree with the above posters – you need to count your calories for a couple of days so you understand how many you are consuming. Here are some general tips: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!
