I’m a 66 years old male, height 1.85m and back in March of this year weighed in at 108kg (238lbs). I live in Poland which has a continental climate: long cold winters and hot summers with a short Spring. I have used a combination of exercise: cycling weekly on local forest trails and cycle paths upto 80km and swimming 1.5km three times a week with the 5+2 diet to get both my weight down and body chemistry back to where it should be.
I went for major medical check-ups starting in April after severe kidney stone pains and the doctors found among my problems my cholesterol way out of control (196mg/dl), blood pressure far too high and cardio beats too high. After all the initial tests were completed in late June and the kidney stones problems resolved, the doctors OK’d me starting the 5+2 diet and also put me on 5mg/day Rosuvastatinum (the minimum daily dose).
After 7 weeks on 5+2 starting 24th June, my weight is down to 95.5kg from a start at 105kg, ie a drop of 9.5kg (21lbs). Target weight is 90kg. My cholesterol is overall down to 140 (from 196), the bad cholesterol down to 77mg/dl (from 134). My heart beat is a steady55/min. Blood pressure is down to 120/80 ( from 170/95). How much is due to the diet alone I cannot say except that with the same level of weekly exercise it earlier took me 3 months (April-June) to drop 3kg to 105kg!
So to all of you: the 5+2 diet works for me as well as for my lady partner who is in her 40ties and has lost 6kg over the past 6 weeks, down to a trim 57kg (she is a continental size 36)and has a personal target of 55kg.
