Sick of being fat

  • Hi all,
    I started yesterday on a fast, did really well until mr wine came knocking on my door 🙁 I think I may have gone a little over 500 but not much, do I still consider this a success or epic fail?
    Please can someone tell me if wine is strictly a no no on fast days :/

    Liz you can do your fast day calories any way you want. Most people choose not to drink alcohol, juice, sugary soft drinks on a fast day as they are high in calories and therefore you get to eat even less food, and might be hungry. Also, in my case at least, alcohol weakens my resolve and I am likely to find myself nibbling at snacks.
    If you had alcohol and still came in around your 500 Cal, then that’s hardly a fail.

    Hiya Liz28, No, it’s not an epic fail.

    There are no hard & fast rules really, it’s good to set limits and try to stick to them but the ‘500’ is just an arbitrary figure that Michael came up with to make the fastday manageable longterm. It’s supposed to be 25% of the average woman’s TDEE but that only adds up if you ARE Ms. Average (which most of us aren’t). Some people stick to 500 or 600, or whatever they know they can do, some work out their personal allowance based on their own TDEE and stick to that and some just don’t eat at all on fastdays and do a ‘genuine’ fast. Whatever works for you, the main point is that you vastly reduce your intake 2 days a week and don’t compensate on non-fastdays.

    I really wouldn’t recommend including alcohol in your 500kcal allowance, as it’s the epitomy of empty calories and may trigger you to want more but if you really feel you have to (separate issue there) then there’s no rule saying you can’t. This WOE is strictly bothered about calories not necessarily what the calories are made up of, so you CAN eat WHATEVER you want on any day – just not AS MUCH as you want.

    And look at the definition of fasting, this one is from Wikipedia:
    “Fasting is primarily an act of willing abstinence or reduction from certain or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time. An absolute fast is normally defined as abstinence from all food and liquid for a defined period, usually a single day (24 hours), or several days. Other fasts may be only partially restrictive, limiting particular foods or substances. The fast may also be intermittent in nature.”

    As long as you do that you are fasting. Whether you spread the 500 kcal out into a continuous nibble all day or leave it for one big meal, is a question of personal choice. You can also not eat at all on your fast day, it is still a fast.

    As long as you have a maximum of 500 kcal in a day for two days a week, you are fasting 5:2 style.

    Hi all! I’m on week two now and am determined to stick with it this time! I tried once before but gave up after two weeks, I dont think my heart was really in it. I was 182lbs when I started, and at 5’3” that makes me obese(sob:() with a BMI of 32.2. I lost two pounds the first week and half an inch off my waist, so I’m cautiously optimistic!
    On fast days, I find not eating all day until the evening works best for me, if I eat something, it just makes me more hungry! Lots of tea, coffee and water seems to keep me going.
    Weigh in number two tomorrow,so fingers crossed!
