  • Hey all I’ve never heard about this diet until last night. Seems a little too good to be true but none the less I’m still gonna give it a shot. I’m starting tomorrow which is Monday and I’ve decided that Monday and Thursday will be my fast days. I know it may be a long shot but I would love to get in touch with someone who started this weekend or is looking to start tomorrow.

    I also have a question just for fun today i wanted to track my eating to see if it’s easy to get to 2000 cals on feast day and now that I’ve logged everything by days end I’m only at 1600 calories and I really can’t see myself eating anymore I’m stuffed. Do u think not reaching the 2000 cal mark will hinder my ability to lose weight?

    Hi Destiny and welcome:

    You base your eating on your TDEE, not 2000.

    The way 5:2 works is you go to bed, get up, eat 500 or fewer calories during your waking hours, go to bed, get up and eat to your TDEE or less – twice a week. On all 7 days of the week you can eat foods you want to eat – there are no forbidden foods, or foods you have to eat. For the first month or so focus on doing your diet days correctly (500 calories or less) and most everything else will fall into place.

    I calculated my TDEE and it is 1947. Do you think its ok if I dont reach that much calories on my feast days?

    Hi:

    There is no requirement that you eat to your TDEE – it is TDEE or less.

    As with any diet, the less you eat, the more you lose.

    Awesome thank you.I have one more question. Sorry if Im being annoying. If I exercise do I have to compensate for the calories ive burned during exercising?

    Hello destiny444 – I just signed up for this forum this morning – and am starting my first fast day ever today – and again Thursday – so it seem we might make a good match? I am Norwegian – almost 50 years old – a bit too fat around the middle – and eager to try this. I heard about it some months ago as I saw Michaels program and though right away this would be something for me. But waited until now, because this spring has been so very busy and stressful. I am on holiday now, and have worked up my energy level and motivation. The only challenge is to keep busy enough during the day, so feeling hungry will not bother me (too much). So far feeling FINE. What about you?

    I’m in Alberta and started this morning for the first time. I was in England for holidays and my friend is having success with this plan so I thought I would try too. I also plan on Mon/Thurs Fast days.
    This morning I’m having egg whites and half grapefruit for breakfast. I’m not good with no-eating diets so I’m going to try to fit in a few low calorie meals such as salad with tuna and vegetable soup. Lots of green tea to keep me going too.
    Let me know how you are doing and give me a shout if you’re feeling low.

    I am also new to the 5:2 diet. I have not been fasting today but taking care in what I eat. Feeling a little apprehensive about the fast which I shall start tomorrow. Oh no – no cakes or scrummy things, but will hold onto my resolve to be a slimmer and healthier version of me in a few weeks time.

    Hi GruvyChick, nice to see a fellow Canadian and starting on the same day as me! 🙂 for lunch i had two scrambled egg whites with some green onions and for supper I had 1 cup of shrimp and a baby spinach salad and a fibre 1 100 cal brownie for dessert. Im at 333 calories today and feel great for so little calories and feel like im good if I dont need to eat anymore today. Do you mind if I ask your stats etc? do you have facebook at all?

    Sounds like you did well on your Fast day…way to go!
    I did ok yesterday except my hubby decided to cook dinner and I felt bad telling him I could only eat a couple chunks of his beef stew….and no potatoes! I’m surprised that I felt so good all day with little calories. It’s actually easier than I thought.
    My stats are depressing….need to lose 25lbs. I’m 176 and want to get to 150 then go from there. This is the heaviest I’ve ever been and I’ve gained most of it in the last 3-4 years. I am trying to get back into a healthier lifestyle, started running again yesterday and re-joined the gym for strength training. I’m determined but need help!

    Good afternoon Gruvychick,

    yesterday went really well for me, fasting is totally doable. But this morning I woke up with what Im guessing is the stomache flu. Silver lining…..lost 2lbs since yesterday lol trying my hardest to got my TDEE calories in today. I guess i could have made today another fast day with the way im feeling but Im trying to stick to the schedule ive made of mondays and thursdays as my fast day.
