  • Hello all! I’ve been following this way of eating for four weeks, but am brand new to the forum. I’m fasting in the hope of losing weight and lessening the symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome. So far, so good: I’ve lost a neat 8 lbs! Although I don’t expect progress to stay this speedy, with summer holidays coming up.

    After watching the Horizon documentary, my partner decided to join me, which has been enormously helpful and we moan and gripe our way through our fast days together!

    Hi, my name is Anne and I have been on the 5-2 diet for nearly 2weeks. Lost 4 1/2 lb last week. I get weighed on a Sunday morning, hopefully in will have lost a couple of more lbs this week.my tip for the fasting days is to keep very busy. I go to my sons house and do his housework, cleaning,ironing etc, it keeps me very busy and stops me thinking about food all the time. If anyone has any tips I would be interested to know them.

    Hi ,thank you for your welcome. I didn,t see that Horizon documentary, what channell was it on maybe I can find it on catch up.
    I get the impression I am much older than you, I could loose weight very easily when I was younger, but now after the first 1/2 stone I really struggle.

    I’m 34. I don’t really know whether I’m going to find more weight loss difficult, as I’ve never tried before! My weight has been creeping slowly up over the last 15 years or so: it was being weighed at the doctor’s surgery and discovering I had a BMI of 29 that made me realise I needed to do something about it. That and the suggestion that PCOS might be made better by losing some weight.

    Hi Ancealda. How have things been going? Did you have a happy weigh in? My partner decided to fast with me after watching the documentary too: he doesn’t need to lose weight…he’s just in it for the health benefits. I am taking your tip of keeping busy this evening (another fast day for me): I’ve cleaned the bathroom, now to prepare the spare room for my parents who are coming to stay for the weekend. x

    Hi Hungry and Ancealda, can I join your thread? I am into my third week and have lost 6lbs and 1 point off my BMI (which was 32.2!!) so really excited about hopefully not being obese for very much longer! I’m really determined to stick with it after years of the weight creeping up despite all manner of nonsense diets, I’m hoping this will be the one that will suit me.I haven’t managed to persuade my husband to start yet, but he’s a carrot and not stick kind of guy, perhaps he will join in when he sees me doing so well;)

    Hi RedSquirrel! Nice to meet you! A point off your BMI in a week is a great achievement: congratulations! This seems to be a diet/way of eating that (whilst not easy, generally) is not too difficult to stick to…or at least, that’s how I’ve found it so far. How has your weekend been?

    Hi all, naughty weekend! Ate loads on Saturday and have resisted the urge to get on the scales in case I get disheartened and give up! I will be good until Thursday and hopefully the scales will be kind.

    Ah–weekends are there for naughtiness! I hope you’ve been doing well since then RedSquirrel. I suspect there will always be weeks that are harder than others. But one of the many great things about the 5:2 (I think) is that you *can* have a nice/naughty weekend! x
