  • Hello,

I did intermittent fasting for a few years but stopped about 3 or 4 years ago. I did the 20/4 method, ie I ate only between 6pm and 10pm each day, then didn’t eat again till the next day at 6pm. After the first few weeks it became second nature and I could have continued but I found that my blood pressure was increasing. But in retrospect I think that was a seperate issue.

Anyway, someone recommended the book to be recently so I downloaded the audio off of Amazon/Audible.com, and listened to it last night and today. I enjoyed it a lot and plan to start tomorrow, but I had a question. There were numerous mentions about a pdf that was supposed to accompany the audio book, but I have no idea where to get it. It sounded like it was a list of foods with glycemic load and glycemic index info, and other such useful info. Can anyone help with this?

The other thing it mentions was a video special that raised a lot of awareness of IF in the UK, so wondering if that video is available anywhere to watch?

As for me, I plan to do a slightly different plan from what was described in the book in that I will do the 2 days of 600 calories divided between breakfast and lunch, but I’ll also be skipping lunch on the other five days (but eating a more normal number of calories between them). I’m guessing it will be hard to consume more than 2000 calories in two meals, but we’ll see. I think this will work better for me because I rarely eat lunch out anyway, so on the rare occasion that I will be eating lunch out, I can certainly change it up on those occasions.

Looking forward to reading a lot of messages from other here!

DVDmom: have resonded twice to your thread and for some reason it is not “taking tonight”. May be the website addresses I was pasting on it per you questions above.

Google Michael Mosely Eat Fast and Live Longer….you will see the video that he made that started much of this.

Re the glycemic index, tons of stuff will pop up on google on that as well….everybody seems to have a list they want to share (Prevention Magazine, Harvard School of Public Health, I am sure Eating Well and Cooking LIght will have them as well).

RE you thought about eating 2 huge 1000 calorie meals….that may be a bit out there. Many of us on these forums have been trying to break bad habits of large portion sizes that got us into this mess in the first place. You may be one of the rare ones that can make that work but it sound a little like playing with fire.

Anyway, good luck to you an welcome to the FD. I hope you find a strategy that works for you.

    Thanks, LUVTCOOK.

By the way, it’s dvdmon, not dvdmom. I’m a guy. 🙂 Yeah, I found some stuff afterwards, but still haven’t been able to watch the video. There’s a link to the program, but when I got to it it says that it can only be played in the UK. 🙁

As far as eating the 2 1000 calorie meals, I didn’t mean to say that that would be my goal. To be honest I probably average around 1600 or 1700 calories per day. There’s a big variance though, ranging from 1400 to 2200. In any case, what I’m saying is that this gives me the opportunity to feel quite full with a 750 calorie breakfast and a 850 calorie dinner. My thought is that I can easily increase these to 1000 each by simply adding another oz of nuts here or there, and/or being a bit more generous with my olive oil in salads (I also use it and nonfat Greek yogurt for making salmon and tuna salads instead of mayo).

Really I’m sure that I’ll get used to this as I did before and I’ll probably find consuming anything close to 1000 calories at a time (or even 800) will be too much, at least for breakfast, and so my total calories for my “non-fasting” days will go down to an average of 1500 or so. I’ll have to see how the weight loss goes. I’ve lost 35 lbs since January with a kind of lower-carb Mediterranean diet that I concocted, but in the last month or so, I’ve only lost maybe 2lbs, so it’s been getting increasingly hard to lose. That’s natural, I know, I only probably have another 15-20 lbs to lose, but if I can start losing consistantly even 1lb per week again, that would really help with my morale! 🙂 If I’m losing at 2lbs or more per week, I can try removing at least one of the 600 calorie days, or maybe nudging them up slightly to 800 or 900 calories, we’ll see…

    Anyway, thanks for the info!

    Hi dvdmon:

I’m not supposed to tell you this, but look for the daily motion video.

    Please keep it a secret.

Here are some tips for those just starting 5:2: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!

dvdmon…..oops so sorry. Didn’t mean to do a gender reassignment to you!

And congratulations on a great weight loss so far! Sounds like you have got a good system in place for your self. A lot of folks on these threads are doing significant carb restrictions along with the 2 day IF thrown in (both for health reasons and the extra weight loss boost).

Follow simcoeluv’s suggestion and you will find the video (I am also in the US and had no problem watching it).

Thanks guys, I started to watch it the other night, but things are pretty busy so I will have to continue it sometime this weekend.

After my thursday 600 calorie day and yesterday 2-meal 2000-calorie meal, I managed to lose another 1lb then .5lb respectively, bringing me to a new low of about 36.5lbs under where I started in January. So far so good. 🙂

Only side effect was Thursday night I slept horribly. But last night I made up for it, so hopefully my body is adjusting more…

    Thanks again,

    Levi

There is a link to the program on here: http://intensivedietarymanagement.com/resources/

The site is in Canada so it should work outside the UK.

dvdmon, welcome to both of us! I’m on the west coast, USA. It’s so nice that there’s folks from all over the world here.

I am doing around 600 cals per fast day as well. I’m going to do my days next week.

I am very familiar with 5:2, as I lost weight on it back in 2013, but then I stopped. Now I have more weight than ever to lose. This time, I plan to make it a lifestyle.
