  • Hi all, I have been toying with starting this diet, but have been too lazy! and finally today I have done it! I took the time to weigh and measure myself, quite a shocker I have to say! I even pinned up a not so attractive photo of my face which was for my passport. I hope to see a few changes in my face and am looking forward to measuring again!
I have had some soup so far today and don’t feel hungry….soup for tea, and plenty of green tea.
Any suggestions on how often to measure?

    Cheers.

I didn’t measure at all for the first 2 months on 5:2 (wasn’t expecting to lose anything much – this was before it became the big ‘diet craze’ it is now) and I think that put me in good stead to just settle in and ‘do it right’. I now weight once a month. I wouldn’t recommend any more than once a week (if you must), as you’ll just get obsessed with the scales and that’s not necessarily what it’s all about. If you ahave a lot to lose it will take time and you need to be kind to yourself and make this your sustainable lifestyle, rather than something to get stressed about.

I weigh daily but only record losses. I am not obsessed with scales and do not mind fluctuations as I work out a lot which leads to water retention in muscles. I like to keep an eye on my weight and the scale helps. If I lose it gives me a confidence boost and if I am a bit higher, it keeps me on my toes to be careful.
Do as you feel fit, there is no right or wrong.

Hi I’ve started today too but not yet weighed myself. I know I’d like to lose a dress size at least. I’m not getting married until mar 2016 but think I need to start making changes now, as all I do eat unhealthy to fill up. I’m struggling already need motivation. Good luck. Xx

Hi Champers, a dress size by March 2016 is totally feasible but it’s not actually a long-long time away when you think that you’ll probably be dress shopping & fitting etc. in late 2015. So you’re absolutely right to get on this now and get to a nice comfy, sustainable weight over the next 18 months.

I’ve been doing 5:2 for almost 2 years now and although I lost 3stone(ish) and 2 dress sizes in the first year, I’ve only lost about 1 stone and half a dress size this year. I still have 1 stone to go to get me comfortably into an ‘ideal’ BMI & weight range but I know that could take another year or more at my nice steady comfy pace. If you are currently VERY overweight (as I was) then you shouldn’t find it a problem to drop 1-2 dress sizes in a year but if you’re starting off closer to your ‘ideal’ range then you’ll probably need to have some discipline to re-train yourself and get down by a dress size within a year.

    Best of luck 😉

Thank you I’ve got a stone to lose and I’ve tried every diet going, I just can’t stick to it. Wow you’ve done amazing well done. Thanks so much for getting back to me. Xxx

Well day one went brilliantly. Very pleased I started this!

I had soup for lunch, then soup and one bread roll for dinner with the family, we all ate the soup, so I didn’t feel left out! I was only really hungry when I went to bed, but woke this morning feeling fantastic!
Seriously!!! I have only just had toast and the time is 10 am….wasn’t hungry till now!
I have found a packet soup mix which is only 105 cals for 600ml…. I think that’s pretty good!?
I plan to fast on Wednesday, and spend the day sorting out the family airing cupboard and wardrobes!
I have tried all the other diets going, and because I keep being told I am not that bad… I thought I wasn’t… Who was I kidding!? The fact that they were saying “your not that bad” was a away of them saying “your a bit fat, but its OK with us”….Plus the stone I have put on in a year says something far more… I am not blind! they may be……

How has every one else gotten on?
I think this diet is great, because it has some very simple things all the others don’t….
    IT IS FREE!!!
    IT IS EASY!!!
IT IS ONLY 2 DAYS A WEEK!!!
I can still drink wine and have chips on the weekends!!!!

It is quite liberating really, knowing that I can do it, my will power is on default at 0! I actually managed to give up smoking easier that I have ever been able to diet. Being married to a very tall slim man, who can eat anything and never put on a pound is very hard going! Especially as I actually eat less than him….

So, Good luck to those who are thinking about it…

    Cheers.

By the way, I realistically have 4 stone to get rid of….
    That’s about 25 kilos….
A Brick weighs about 2.5kgs…. so how many bricks are we all carrying around?
    I carry 10!
    Its gotta go!
