  • I was excited about getting to eat whatever I want on my non fast days, like Michael was eating a big, fabulous cheeseburger when I first started this. However, reality has set in with me, as well, that maybe occasionally that would be fine, but not every day.

While I also was thrilled at the fact I wouldn’t have to count calories all week, I realize now I am one who is going to have to count them on non fast days, too. But now that I get that, I think things will go better. I think on some NF days I was going way over my calories. Well, I know I was.

I do want to make sure I’m doing this right. Am I right to eat about 1500 calories on NF days to lose weight? I’d feel better if some of ya’ll would confirm this for me, or your opinion.

    My informations is this:
    BMI: 31.3
    BMR: 1515
    TDEE: 1818

    Thank you for your time!!!

Look at your last posting and you’ll get the answer. You need to eat below your TDEE of 1818.

This is a weird thread steno357, you appear to have answered yourself here?? Whatever, if you eat somewhere between your BMR and TDEE on non-fastdays you should lose weight. If you haven’t got much to lose you could also put your goal weight into the TDEE calculator (instead of your actual weight) and as long as your goal TDEE is more than your current BMR then you could aim between your future TDEE and your current TDEE instead. That’s one way to get you ready for your long-term maintenance diet while still losing weight.

P.S. I think in the documentary Michael was eating greasy burgers etc. when he was trying out pure alternate day fasting in America, while looking at the study being tried out there. People forget that he looked at all kinds of extremes of fasting before settling on his own version for himself (5:2). I doubt he tucks into massive cheese burgers on every non-fastday either. As you say, now and again, as a treat you can over-indulge but most of the time on 5:2 you do need to be mindful of what you are consuming on a Non-fastday, as well as fastdays.

Thank you, TracyJ! That was enormously helpful. Yes, it’s taking me quite a few weeks to get squared away with this diet and really understanding , really understanding, that I still need to eat a healthy diet most of the time. I was eating more healthy before I started 5:2. I am crystal clear now and look forward to better results. Thanks so much.
