  • Hi All,
I just would like to hear from all of you!
I think that support is essential to achieve any goal. Remember that we have decided to do this first and foremost to become healthier and secondarily to lose weight!
I am feeling so positive and I want to share this energy with everyone.
I have started last Tuesday, my fasting days are Tuesday and Thursday (so I am in my second one) and I am feeling extremely good and motivated.
On my fast days I have opted to go for a breakfast of porridge (cooked with water) and fruit (usually a medium banana and blueberries)at 7:00 am and then fasting until 8:00 pm when I have a big plate of vegetables or eggs and vegetables or tuna/salmon/chicken and vegetables for dinner.
I have also opted to follow a calories reduced diet on the non-fasting days of 1500 calories a day, except for Saturday and Sunday when I will eat freely still avoiding, though, sugar, sweats and fatty food in general.
My exercise regimen for now is power-walking 1/2 hour every day of the week. I am planning to join a Nordic walking group 1 day a week for 1 hour and swim another day of the week for 1 hour(whilst keeping what I am doing now for the rest of the week).
Let’s support each other. I want to hear positive words of encouragement from all of you out there: brave, strong, clever individuals who have embarked in this amazing journey of renewal and well being.

Hello, well this is the day after my second day of fasting.
I feel great and yesterday I had less of the symptoms I had on my first day (such as headaches)…but I think I ate too many calories and it had to do with the Olive oil (I tbs), which I used to make my 1 egg 2 egg whites omelette.
My walking made me burn 115 calories though, so I should still stay within allowance.
Any suggestions about what condiments to use when cooking?
Have a wonderful rest of the week for those who are fasting and those who are on their regular days.
    Positive energy to All.

Hello, this is my second week and I am feeling great!
Not weighting: I have decided to weigh once a month. Of course I know my initial weigh but in the past weight fluctuation – which is inevitable – has influenced really negatively my will power, therefore this time I am weighting once a month.

    Overall: I feel really good.

I have incorporated more exercise to my week, which is running couple of laps in my park. I hope I will be able to increase my running..this is my plan.
I am trying to stick to a 1500 calories menu the rest of the week (non fasting days) with more allowance on weekends.
    I feel really motivated.

Yesterday I was looking forward to my fast day..and this is surprising.

    Positive energy to ALL!

Well done so far. It sounds like you’re approaching this really positively and mindfully.

I would caution you not to be too restrictive on your non-fastdays. If 1500 calories is comfortably between your BMR and your TDEE numbers then that’s fine but don’t restrict the other 5 days to an unnecessary extent just for the sake of it. This lifestyle is not a ‘quick fix’ and building and maintaining a positive long-term relationship with your eating habits is far more important than shaving off 1 extra lb at this early stage.

I am a massive fan of the ‘once a month’ weigh in though, so I think that’s great and I look forward to seeing your results (don’t forget those inches too – weight isn’t everything remember) next month 😉

Re: condiments for cooking. the levels you would get in a pinch of salt/pepper/most herbs are so minimal I would never really bother to count them unless it’s getting to teaspoon/tablespoon levels (google is your friend for finding out calorie contents of whatever you need). Oils are another matter and do need to be avoided/taken into consideration on a fastday especially.

Hello Tracy J. Thanks for your posting and support.
Unfortunately my 1 month weight in, this morning, didn’t go well! But I have been eating “too freely” 🙂 on some of my non fasting days and I think that this is the reason.
I am still very motivated and want to continue the 5:2, because I am very convinced of its inner benefits not only linked to weight loss.
I need to lose weight though. I have became really heavy and I am starting to feel it in everyday life.
I think I will now be more cautious on my non-fast days and stick to the 1500 calories, although I read a post of some suggesting to go for 1500 during the week and 1800 calories during weekends.
    Will see.
    Thanks again.
