  • Steaming through my fast day today, feeling great, my boss arrived in just now whilst I was in the kitchen, walked back to find a costa blueberry muffin on my desk….eep! I’ve hidden it so she thinks I’ve eaten it (don’t want to seem ungrateful and I know that if I remind her it’s my fast day she will feel guilty and apologise for ten mins!), so it’s in my lunch bag, smelling bloody marvellous… I will have to smuggle it to the outside bin later!!!

Keep strong you know it’ll be worth it πŸ™‚

Haha I had the same dilema last week, my feeder of a collegue brought in a BAG of chocolate shortbreads from sainsburys. You know the really delcious massive ones, must be at least 400 cals in one. She practically forced it on me so I left it on my desk and then quickly wrapped it up in tissue whilst she wasn’t looking and stuffed it in my bag. Felt too guilty to throw it away, so I gave it to a homeless guy before getting on the tube. He was well happy, so a win win (sort of). Maybe do the same?:)

I like it monkeyslim, you still get to keep within calories and help someone less fortunate at the same time! I haven’t told many people at work I’m doing 5:2 because most people wouldn’t understand and think its OK to encourage me to overeat on fast days, I guess places of work have ‘feeders’.

I would definitely give it to a homeless person but I’m in the very lucky position to live/work somewhere that I’ve never seen a homeless person πŸ™‚ I also can’t give it to someone else where I work because it would be very obvious! I hate waste as much as the next person and I would have considered keeping it for tomorrow but whilst I don’t count calories on non fast days, I also don’t want to put 450kcal in my tummy in the shape of just the one muffin! Cannot believe how calorific those muffins are!

That must be a nice place to live! Im from London, so there are quite a lot of homeless people which is sad. Yeah no stick to your guns, that 450 cal muffins isnt any better in your tummy get it in the bin! Crazy hor many cals they can get in to stuff!

I’m very lucky I know, I’m in West Sussex so not far from you, in fact on the London line to Brighton, it’s a lovely part of the country πŸ™‚ It really is crazy how many calories they get in those bad boys, and it always seems like it might be a good option because it’s ‘blueberry’ haha!

Always a tasty option but never a good one lol. Especially annoying when it says “Skinny Blueberry”, Starbucks… there ain’t nothing skinny about it!

I don’t know if this is the same in the UK, but in the US almost all “blueberries” in baked goods, cereals etc are nothing of the sort. They are actually globs of sugar, corn syrup, starch, hydrogenated oil, artificial flavors and food dyes made to look like blueberries. Finding this out has put me right off blueberry muffins.

Kilda that’s interesting, I will do some research I think!

Yeah I guess thats true for quite a few foods, it does put you off doesn’t it?! I have been totally put off margarine since I found out that its real colour is grey… GREY!The yellow is all colouring. Havent eaten it since

Hmmm ok, back at my desk now, had a quick look to find the ingredients of a costa blueberry muffin but can only find the nutritional values… interesting! I’m going to contact them now and see if they will tell me πŸ˜‰

Also, came across this whilst searching – http://www.cracked.com/article_19433_the-6-most-horrifying-lies-food-industry-feeding-you_p2.html

This verifies what you said Kilda. Jeez, the food industry is ridiculous! Monkeyslim, that thing about margarine, yuk! I don’t eat it, I’d rather have half the amount of butter anyway, and I’ve read SO many articles now about diet and low fat foods, I try to avoid them all these days, this is one of the reasons I’m loving 5:2, on a fast day I’m trying to go for whole foods when possible, protein and veg/salad, so a nice chicken breast this evening, barbequed, with my gorgeous hubby’s garlic and chilli veg, yum!

If anyone is interested, this is the response I got to whether or not there are any actual blueberries in a costa blueberry muffin…

“Thank you for you email enquiry.

We noticed that our current blueberry muffin is quite heavy in texture, a little grey in colour and the blueberry flavour could be better – our food team has addressed these issues making this the most improved muffin. It is now made with a larger blueberry that bleeds less so the muffin looks fresh and less grey.

The blueberry compote injection has been increased by 20% and now contains 35% blueberry fruit, it’s glossier in appearance, actually tastes of blueberry and oozes more!

We have also replaced the not so crunchy crumble topping with blueberries.”

    Interesting πŸ™‚
