AH, today was my first day as well. I went spinning this morning, trying to figure out if that was wise: I had oatmeal and blueberries at 11:00, to answer your question, I read in the book that a good time span is 11:00 breakfast (I’m never hungry first thing in the morning) and 7:00 dinner. This is what I did. At around 3:00 it was really hard because I was so incredibly hungry. Drink lots of liquids and I guess muscle through it, I am hoping it gets easier. Best of luck!!!
Hi both,
I have been doing 5:2 for just over 3 weeks now and have completed my 7th fast. It does get easier. My first day I was hangry (hungry angry) by the time I got home. That first fast I tried to have 3 small meals for my 500cal and it didn’t work.
I have found that I have more of a routine that works for me now. I have lunch around 12 / 12:30pm and then I have dinner about 7:30pm. I normally have a black coffee, herbal tea and plenty of water in the morning and throughout the afternoon.
I think as you get through a few fasts you will work out what suits you best. I think the best advice I read when you feel hungry is to take deep breaths, drink water and distract yourself. They normally pass. Another trick is some carrot sticks in the afternoon as well or a cup of soup, just remember to add them into your calorie count. Also plan ahead of fast day, I always find this helps.
I have really been enjoying the 5:2, I feel great for fasting and I am noticing the weight loss, cm loss already.
That was just off the top of my head. I hope it all goes well. Keep us updated on how you get on. 🙂

Today is my first day also! I live in the United States and I happened upon the 5:2 plan by accident. I’m avidly reading all the “tips for newbies” forums because I, too, enjoy eating a late breakfast (really more of a brunch … 10:30 or so.) I’m very interested to see how that works for others. I’m already a member of Weight Watchers but I’m hoping the fasting days will help ramp-up my weight loss and also perhaps help me feel less sluggish.
Hi and welcome:
There is little reason to do 5:2 and WW. But if you are, remember with 5:2 there are no ‘free’ foods. You have to count all calories.
Here are some tips for those just starting: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/
Good Luck!
Hi it is my first day aswell. I have just completed my fasting day and it was good! I did have periods of being quite hungry but chai tea got me through the day and the idea I can have a normal day tomorrow. I am really excited to start this, more as lifestyle than a diet. I eat well generally but can’t lose the last 4-5kg!! I am hoping this works, does anyone know how long it takes to see results? And if it makes a difference if you do your fasting days apart?
Hi all first day fasters, mine was yesterday as well (April fools day) hope thats not an omen, apart from getting sickly and light headed at about 11am ( i don’t think it was connected because i’ve had to fast before for medical reasons and never felt like that before) the only real problem was I couldn’t sleep not even a nap and have been clock watching since 1.30am gave up and got up at 4.30am which means i’d had my breakfast by 5am hope this doesn’t de-rail me for the rest of the day, thinking of getting some over the counter sleeping tabs but if anyone has a better suggestion I’d love to hear from you. P.S. I lost a pound yipee makes the very long and boring night easier to bear.
Colly
