  • I have always had trouble with the standard diet advice that I should weigh in once a week, because I found that often my weight just hasn’t changed, or even gone up despite trying harder with my diet and exercise. This is I am sure because my weight can vary by up to a kilo in any day, depending on hydration and other issues.

Seeing no result for effort, or even a reversal can be extremely discouraging! So for the last 8 months, I have been weighing in daily, and graphing my seven day average, which gives me a much better view of my body’s response to the food I eat and the activity levels I maintain. Doing so has allowed me to drop from 82kg to 73 at a steady rate since last August.

I am interested in other peoples thoughts on the idea of how often we should check our weight?

I’m with you in that I weigh every morning, it helps keep me on track for the following day. My official weigh-in day is Friday and yesterday I’d put on a lb since the previous Friday. It was a non-fast day but i decided to be careful about what I ate and this morning the lb has disappeared which has spurred me on to ‘be good’ until next Friday.

I suppose it depends on the individual though and as long as the scales are moving downwards it doesn’t really matter.

I weigh every day as well, and it seems to me that even with fasting two days a week, if I do eat up to my TDEE levels on the other days, my weight is not the only barometer of my progress. I am trying to keep the scales moving down, as well as body fat if possible. I wonder what impact fat has on those not fast days, just classic fats in foods, dairy, etc.
